We had a nice few days but that wind off the North Sea was freezing.

  • "This is a great property and is really well positioned in the lovely seaside town - for the shops and for the marina."

There are 2 small supermarkets within 2 mins walk in either direction and a bigger one a few mins drive away The property is well equipped for the average family with good storage for coats / boots downstairs and good drawer / wardrobe space upstairs. There were also dog treats and a dog dish for visitors. The property was spotless and had all of the basics that you’d need upon arrival (milk / coffee / sugar / juice etc as well as washing up liquid / tea towels / bath towels etc) Communication from the owners was the most proactive and helpful that I have had from any owners and was much appreciated (although having spent a week in amble for the last 2 years we didn’t need to call upon them). There is also a very useful folder with details of the WiFi etc and a box full of leaflets for things to do in the area. Amble is the best base we have used for Northumberland - you seem to be able to get anywhere quickly and without issue. The only niggle was the noise outside - it wasn’t bad at all - but on 2 consecutive mornings I was woken by the bin / refuse wagon (to be fair I did have the window open). Really handy to have a grassy area right next to the house for the early morning / late night dog walk (but if going in winter months please take a torch !) Loved it and I would definitely recommend it.

So pleased you enjoyed your stay Nikki. Thank you for the positive, informative feedback and hope you continue visiting Amble! Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage, well maintained, very clean , I believe recently renovated to good standard."

Beds very comfy, bathroom tastefully decorated, with sufficient towels, etc Kitchen appliances all brand new, cooker easy to use, perhaps a steamer to use, would save on cooking things individually, plus help with electric, no cleaning products to use if you have a disaster, extra bags for rubbish, plus no recycling properly yet in your area, which has nothing to do with cottage, just environment. Situated in lovely area, marina at bottom of street, with plenty of shops on your doorstep if needed, plus market on Sunday in harbour which was very busy. Plenty of walks round about, and other areas to visit of interest, would definitely come again, only problem for our group, as I brought a friend who has mobility problems, using the stairs for toilet and bed was difficult, again something I should have thought of before I came, but would definitely recommend the cottage to anyone for a break in Northumberland, plus thank you for lovely welcome pack on arrival from Janet, Alan and Diane

Thanks for the feedback Janet, glad you had a good break and liked Stone's Throw. We also appreciate the suggestions on how to improve our guests' stay! Property Owner

  • "Stones Throw is a gorgeous property ."

It is very comfortable with a good sized lounge with two good sized couches. The kitchen has everything you need and fridge/ freezer is a good size. The beds are very comfortable and there are wardrobes in both bedrooms so plenty of space for hanging clothes.. The outdoor space is small but fully enclosed but we didn’t use it as generally out . The location is great just off the High Street but still quiet and handy for everything. Good base to explore Northumberland coast . Brian and Elaine

  • "A lovely place to stay in Amble just off the main street."

A few minutes walk to the harbour and 30 minutes walk to Warkworth along the river. Finished and equipped very well. Beds comfortable, house well maintained and facilities excellent. The only drawback was the outside space which was a small back yard with table but that wasn’t a problem as we were out most of the time. I’d certainly recommend it.

Glad you enjoyed your stay David and made the most of your time in Amble. Property Owner

  • "We couldn’t fault anything about our stay at Stone’s Throw."

The owners have thought of absolutely everything to make sure you feel very well looked after. The fixtures and fittings have been very well finished, the house is spotlessly clean and they have gone above and beyond with little extras to make it feel modern yet comfy, even leaving dog treats, biscuits, tea/coffee and Prosecco as a welcome gift which was a lovely touch. The folder of information about the area was very helpful, especially as we’d never visited there before. Details including local pubs and restaurants that welcome dogs was especially useful and the best beaches for surfing and other local attractions came in very handy. The location is brilliant as it’s very near shops, takeaways, bars and the fishing port for early morning and evening strolls. I would highly recommend this for a couple, families (and dogs) as there’s something to suit all! Thank you so much and we’ll definitely be returning!

Thank you Naomi, so pleased you had a good stay and hope to see you again. Property Owner

About the location

AMBLE

Warkworth 1 mile; Alnmouth 4 miles.

The bustling little seaport of Amble is situated at the mouth of the River Coquet and is an ideal place for exploring Northumberland. Historically a centre for boatbuilding, Amble offers a marina, a harbour, sandy beaches and coastal walks to the bird sanctuary at Hauxley and country park at Druridge Bay. Large fishing boats moor along the harbour wall and land a variety of fish, prawns, crabs and lobsters. There is a fish centre on the side of the harbour that is now primarily a shell fish hatchery to re-stock levels of lobster and other shell fish, this sells local fish and is open to the public. A mile south of Amble is Coquet Island, an RSPB reserve with a large population of terns, puffins and eider ducks and boat trips around the island can be arranged. The pretty coastal villages of Alnmouth and Craster and numerous superb beaches are only a short drive away, whilst picturesque Warkworth with its castle, charming Alnwick with its castle and award-winning gardens, and the National Trust’s Wallington Hall and Cragside are all within easy reach.
