  • "Our stay at this cottage was lovely, with fantastic views and plenty of walks from the cottage."

    The cottage itself was spotlessly clean, and very comfortable.The only minor drawback for us is that the garden is not completely enclosed. Apart from that one detail, it is a peaceful, beautiful getaway and we highly recommend it for the views alone!

  • "The Stables is a great holiday cottage."

    It is beautifully and very peacefully situated, with wonderful, far-reaching views across the hills. It is clean, spacious, nicely decorated and equipped with everything you could need. The cottage is located on the grounds of a farm and vineyard, right at the top of a hill at the end of a narrow, quiet road with no through traffic. You can have groceries delivered from the local supermarket, as well as food from various restaurants if you don't feel like cooking. From the cottage, you can walk straight onto the country lanes and enjoy walks in all directions. The owners live on the farm and are incredibly friendly and helpful. They make you feel at home from the moment you arrive. We had a wonderful stay — we really can't recommend The Stables highly enough!

  • "Very comfortable well equipped facility with great views and very peaceful."

    Location means you need to use the car to access pubs etc for dinner. Best place to eat is the Oddfellows in Mellor which is closed Monday and Tuesday. Advertised as dog friendly but dogs must be leashed every time you exit or access the property due to free ranging chickens…very cute chickens, but a major constraint on responsible dog owners.

    30 minute drive for central Manchester where we attended 2 concerts and lovely walks in the surrounding countryside and good facilities in the local town of Mellor

  • "A BIJOU HOLIDAY HOME Great location, with beautiful views from the property."

    Tastefully furnished and decorated, with a wonderful shower, fridge and oven/hob. Tim (owner) was very helpful when we struggled to operate the underfloor heating and the television. However, a few things could be improved. A hanging rail in the main bedroom (small combi wardrobe?). Frying pan was old and had an uneven base - difficult to cook food in. Only one towel (bath) per person for a week, with no washing machine. We were very cold for a few days (cold spell), and although there was a good supply of logs, we had to visit the supermarket for kindling/fire starters.

  • "As a party of 4 adults (two couples) we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Stables."

    There are plenty of great walks from the doorstep. Various pubs in the locality. The accommodation is fantastic, beautifuly decorated to a very high standard - extremely comfortable and very clean. We didn't feel that the owners were intrusive at all, but they were on hand should we have had queries. We would definitely recommend this accommodation to future customers.

    The treats left for us by the owners were a real treat! We went with our dog and the only comment I would make is that the back yard of the property was not secure. My only other ask would be some felt pads on the dining chairs feet. With saying this we would stay again without hesitation

  • "We had a wonderful time staying at this beautiful cottage in Peak District."

    From the moment we arrived, everything was just right. The cottage is beautiful and offers all the comforts you could need. It was immaculately clean, tastefully decorated and thoughtfully prepared for a truly relaxing stay. One of the highlights was the stunning view of the vineyard with a picturesque church at the top of the hill. It felt like something out of a painting. We just loved the views and the quietness and calmness this place has to offer. The location is perfect, peaceful and secluded , yet close to lovely village with pubs. The host is warm and welcoming and clearly committed to making guests feel at home. This stay was everything we hoped for and more. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will plan for our return.

  • "The whole family enjoyed the long weekend at the Stables."

    The location is great, as it allows us to travel to Manchester for the football game easily. The property is clean and cosy. The scenery around the vineyard is stunning. The host is super friendly and helped to solve our little shower room drainage problem very quickly. The bonus is the walking route recommended by the host. We couldn't get to the pub at the end of the route this time, but we decided to come back again and will spend more time at the Stables next time. We look forward to trying the wine produced by the Dark Peak vineyard soon.

  • "Fantastic property, location and hosts."

    We loved everything about this place: 1. Decor was lovely 2. Cleanliness superb (for a pet friendly cottage it was very clean and odour free) 3 Super comfy seating and beds 4 Wonderfully quiet with lovely private views 5 Super walking from your doorstep 6 Short walk to village for marvellous brunch and croissants 7 Amazing to see the vineyard!! 8 Loads to do in the area 9 Perfect location for a short journey into Manchester (we were going to Coop Live for a concert) 10 Fabulous wine and cocolates on arrival too We wish the owners the best of luck with the new venture, we loved the place and would like to have stayed longer. Couldn't recommend it more and we have stayed many places and this was one of my favourites. I loved the idea that you can book both properties together with a linking door. You could easily stay here for 2weeks and have something to do everyday. Thank you for a lovely stay! Ps Remember to pop a tin opener in the kitchen drawer anf maybe an extra pan! 10 out of 10 from us though!

    The views are fantastic and the accommodation is really well done. Really nice to be provided with teas coffee milk etc as well as some treats along with essentials such as dishwasher tablets and kitchen roll. It’s in a great location with beautiful walks from the doorstep. Lovely pub just a short walk too.

Dark Peak Vineyard Holiday Cottages

Dark Peak Vineyard Holiday Cottages are a pairing of wonderful holiday homes resting in Mellor, which is just outside of Manchester and on the edge of the stunning Peak District National Park. The Plucking Shed (1176360) and The Stables (1176720) are set right next to each other and are a great choice for couples, families or even a small group of friends who are seeking a peaceful retreat in this charming part of the country. From the farm, you can walk into the Peak District National Park, with hundreds of miles of walking and cycling routes. Or you can catch the train from Marple, a short walk/drive away, into the heart of the Peaks. Go and explore the Hope Valley, or climb Jacob’s Ladder to take in the views from Kinder Scout. There are plenty of walking and cycling routes around the farm and village too, with four excellent local pubs all reachable on foot, and more options in Marple Bridge just a mile down the hill. It’s always just a short walk back across the fields after a good meal in Mellor – a great spot for foodies. If you want a break from your hiking boots, catch the train or take the bus into Stockport or Manchester for a night of fine dining, theatre, sport or music. MARPLE BRIDGE

Buxton 15 miles; Manchester 13 miles.

The village of Marple Bridge is situated on the edge of the Peak District National Park and is close to the Derbyshire border and the city of Manchester. Marple Bridge offers three pubs, all of which serve food, a coffee shop and an artisan bakery/patisserie, which is also a coffee shop by day and a restaurant at night. The Roman Lakes in the village are popular with fishermen, walkers, cyclists and horse-riders. You can access the canal between the town of Marple and Marple Bridge and walk to Disley where you will find the National Trust owned Lyme Park. From the village take the train to Manchester and within half an hour you can experience all the history, theatre, shopping and dining that this major city has to offer. You can also take the train to Edale and walk back, which offers a great day out for keen walkers, plus there are several golf courses nearby. The spa town of Buxton is 15 miles away and is well worth visiting and within driving distance are Chatsworth House, Holmfirth, Castleton, the Goyt Valley and the Blue John Mines. Marple Bridge is an ideal destination for countryside pursuits, a city escape or for exploring the lovely villages and towns nearby.
