• "We arrived on a Friday afternoon, we couldn’t enter via the three steps outside because there were thorny rose bush trimmings left on the steps, the front door was stuck at the bottom so needed a hefty push with a foot, the hoover was left out by the coat hangers so needed to be put away, our bed was made up but one of the other double beds was stripped but but dishevelled, the toilet still had tissue floating in the bottom."

  In the sun room there were drink stains on the floor and the coffee table, some of the cushions were open at the back so the pillow inside was hanging out, the sofas in the lounge were sunken making them very uncomfortable and there was quite a lot of dust throughout seemingly looking like the cleaner hadn’t done a very good job, if at all. On entering the Wi-Fi code and password, as written in the info book, nothing worked so I phoned the owners number as given in the info book but just got a message that he was away and would get back to me, he didn’t, so I phoned Sykes cottages and explained, they couldn’t get hold of him either ( we later discovered that he had been in Youlgrave that evening as he came into the pub we were eating in to collect a bag he had left in there that night ) which meant he could have come to the cottage to try and sort out the problem. I contacted him on the following morning (Sat 6th ) he said to check all the connections first before he came as it would take him an hour to get to us (nearly 2 hours later ) he arrived, couldn’t find the problem so called his network provider, eventually sorted the problem, we told him about all the above mentioned and said he would speak to his cleaner. We lost half a day of our holiday waiting for him to sort things out.

  WOW What a review Here is my response to all your issues ON ARRIVAL 1) The steps that lead to the property are 1 metre wide. We have two beds either side of them one has a rose bush and one a honeysuckle. There is sufficient space to walk down the steps without encountering any terrible dangerous"thorny" trimmings. There is access at the side of the steps should this have been a problem 2) We recently had the door painted however nobody has had an issue or complained that they have had to open it with their feet! We had quite a wet spell prior to your arrival and it may have possible caused the door to swell a little. WE ARE NOW IN THE PROPERTY 3)We do not have a large enough cupboard to store the hoover The property has an open staircase so no storage under the stairs. We coil the lead and leave it at the side of the entrance door Again not a problem with other guests. Maybe you would like to suggest where I could keep it 4) I contacted you be email prior to your arrival to ask how many bedrooms you would require as I spotted you were a couple. You did not respond so I assumed as you were a Mr an Mrs on the booking you would require 1 double and therefore advised my cleaner to make 1 room up. If you were stopping in a bed and breakfast would you look at the other bedrooms that you were not using ? 4) When I came to see you about an additional problem (see later) You suggested that the floor and coffee table were not clean, a sheet of toilet paper floating in the wc, lots of dust, some of the cushions open at the back and the pillow was hanging out I asked if you had taken any photos so I could discuss it with my cleaner who I have used for all previous change overs . You said no you hadn't , therefore I don't know how you would like me to address this. The previous guest left a review and they suggest the property was "Very clean, spacious and extremely well equipped." Previous booking to yourselves with the same cleaner. WIFI NOT WORKING 5)Next the wifi ! On the day of your arrival I was in Blackpool (over 100 miles away) with friends which I had booked several weeks prior to your stay. Unbeknown to me the village had a power cut earlier in the day (Not an issue at Blackpool) this would have disabled the router and you said there was no power when you arrived. I received a missed call from you and shortly afterwards a voicemail from Sykes . I was unable to answer my phone at the time for which I am not prepared to share with you The voicemail suggested you were having an issue with the wifi. Now whilst I appreciate wifi is a nice to have I wouldn't class it as an emergency such as no heating, a leak ,no hot water , smell of gas etcf. I returned very late that evening and saw The Cottage was in darkness so I assumed you had gone to bed and could manage without wifi till the following morning. I then went to the pub with my friends . The following morning I received a call from you which I answered you explained that the wifi wasn't working and also that your clothes were stuck in the washing machine(No mention of this in your review which has surprised me) I told you I would be along and try to turn the washing machine to another setting to release the catch. I do run a business and had to sort something out should I not be back in time to open the business On arrival at the house the clothes were still stuck in the washing machine. I changed the dial to another programme instantly releasing the catch and opened the door. I then called the ISP about the wifi. They assured me the connection was live but the wifi button had been switched off on the router. I guess this must have been done during the power cut by someone. I turned the wifi switch and hey presto internet restored and back to essential services I then went off to do other things called at the pub "Where I was rightly identified and spotted collecting my bag as I had walked home and did not want to carry it , (Explanation for you if you wanted it)| and returned to my business to open it before midday on Saturday morning "A whole half day of your holiday ruined ??" What did one do before the power of the internet . Youlgrave is in the Peak District with wonderful walks and scenery. You arrived with a dog one would assume you may have gone out for a walk on the Saturday morningg Property Owner

• "Peters Lea was excellent accommodation."

  The drive into it was a bit deceiving as very untidy driveway and overgrown shrubs outside but once inside everything was perfect. Very clean, spacious and extremely well equipped. The welcome Bakewell Tart and supply of milk was a nice touch. The bedrooms were lovely and lots of storage/ hangers and comfortable beds. The most overwhelming think was the outside decking and lawn to the rear. With beautiful views and a fantastic hot tub ( towels provided). Plenty of chairs and a large table and attractive lightning in the evenings. The location was good within easy reach of tourist attractions. Nice pubs in the village within walking distance. Would definitely recommend.

• "Lovely short break at Peters Lea."

  Spacious cottage and perfect location for a walking weekend. The hot tub was a lovely bonus and great for soothing our aching legs at the end of each day. The only negative was the constantly chiming clock, cute at 2pm but irritating at 5am!!
