  • "The property is lovely, very homely with everything you need."

Nice surprise with starter groceries left for us. This cottage feels like a home, we enjoyed our stay and would strongly recommend.

Hello Lily, Just want to send you quick note to say Thanks ever so much for lovely feedback, truly appreciated. Hope to serve you again soon. Best regards, Harbans Property Owner

  • "First impressions were very pleasing, and reflected online images and description- modern touches throughout, including comfy beds and reclining sofas."

The house was warm and felt cosy. Instructions for finding the property were easy to follow. Kitchen was compact, but we managed to cook a delicious Christmas meal for a family of four- all essential kitchen-ware was provided. There was a large fridge freezer that was really pleasing. Excellent location for all amenities, including walking trails near the canal, all within walking distance. The owner was easy to communicate with and prompt in replies. We liked it so much , we stayed an extra night.

Hi Jay, Thank you for your stay and indeed for the smashingly great review. Really appreciated and look forward to welcoming you again with the family in near future. Property Owner

  • "House was good and in a nice quiet location close to shops etc."

However as mentioned by previous guests the en suite shower did not work. We followed instructions re isolation cord but only a trickle of cold water came out. At least we had the other shower over bath which wasn't a problem for us to use. The key safe was actually open when we arrived. It was stated that linen was provided but only 1 towel per person was allocated. We were able to take them from other rooms as there were just 2 of us but if a full house party is there then 1 towel is not sufficient. Garden needed attention.......tripping hazards on steps to garage......grass needing mowed and general tidy up. It would give a pleasant little garden to sit in. Also an outdoor drying area would be good especially if you have to wash your 1 towel and have it dry again for immediate use. Other little minor things needing seen to....chipped mugs....hand towel holder in en suite lying on floor. We did enjoy our stay but with these little things put right it will offer a better experience for guests.

Hiya, Just want to say Thank you to "All" my Guests on their constructive Feedback. I would like to let them know that the SHOWER is now fixed; i can say that as last 3 booking guests have not complaint. Also, garden has been sorted, new storage items has been installed, new cleaning / management company has been appointed for over a month now. I very much appreciated my guests' feedback. And Thank you to my "TEAM" who made this possible. Hi Lorna, Thank you for the constructive feedback, despite few things that were not perfect, I still hope that you have enjoyed your holiday with family and time in the JSV Cottage. Thank-you for allowing plumber to come to look at the shower which has now been replaced by Nigel. I appreciate that garden has not been looked after the way it should especially after winter. The House-keeping team has now arranged to maintained the garden. I agree with you that this is and can be a beautiful space to sit out as I used to sit out when I lived there with my family. In terms of towels, normally, there are two towel one small and one big one. As on personal choice and request the House-keeper team would have provided additional towels if needed. I will take your suggestions onboard and thank you again for your business and suggestions. Property Owner

  • "We stayed at this cottage for 2 weeks from March 31st to April 14th, 2023."

It was made available for let from June of 2022 and we booked August 2022. The location is excellent, central to many amenities and activities in the area and in a good neighbourhood. The Cottage is clean and appears to have been recently painted. The floors and carpets are in good condition. However, we arrived to find issues mentioned in previous reviews unresolved … master shower not working, black rubbish and recycling bins full (the previous guests left before collection day), unkempt garden. We had a mixed experience staying here. We were a multigenerational family of 5 and, by and large, we managed but there were challenges. I am sure the owner has the best of intentions by providing large beds, but they fill the rooms and contrary to the description, makes storage an issue. We are fairly efficient packers, but we struggled to put our things away and mostly lived out of our suitcases. The master has 2 closets; box room has an open space with a rod at the end of the bed; there is a wall mounted small triangle hanger but no closet in the 2nd room. There are no dressers or drawers at all and 15 hangers to share among guests. My husband managed with his suitcase on the floor in our (the 2nd) bedroom. There was no room for another case on the floor, so I improvised and ended up using the sideboard in the living room. It is commendable that there is provision for an infant, but I do not know where you would set up the cot. I do not expect to cook the same way I do at home, but the kitchen is not as well stocked as advertised. It has a hodge podge of mostly old pots, pans, and utensils. Items that are needed include a set of knives (there is 1 dull one), a standard frypan and a casserole dish with lids, some storage containers, a coffee maker, tea towels (there was 1). The oven works on convection and grill but not the standard oven setting. There is mystery food in jars left in the pantry. With reference to previous reviews, the master shower was still not working after 2 months of complaints. We managed to connect with the owner to get a plumber in, but it needs a part and was still not repaired by the time we left although the owner messaged us to say it would be repaired the next week. Regarding the shower in the family bathroom, pressure was low on the eco setting and water too hot on the high setting to use. This house has the potential to be a great holiday let but needs some improvements. If I were the owner, I would get rid of the super-king bed (it doesn’t have king bedding anyway), move the king into the master bedroom and get a double for the 2nd bedroom. Invest in 3-drawer bedside dressers for all 3 bedrooms. Install shelves in the smaller closet in the master. Replace the sideboard in the living room with a wardrobe. This would make a huge difference and be cost effective. The owner is currently abroad, and the caretaker only handles cleaning at changeover unless special arrangements are made. There is no formal provision for multi-week stays regarding towel/linen exchange (weekly?) or cleaning. Guests have to contact the caretaker and make special arrangements for that too. The caretaker is really just a cleaner… period. Most issues addressed to the caretaker are redirected to the owner. The owner should consider engaging a property manager with authority to deal with repairs, garden maintenance, rubbish/recycling removal etc. since the owner is not here to deal with issues and the caretaker is not doing any of this either.

Hi Adrienne Thank you for your feedback, again a constructive one! along with Lorna, I have realised that you were using the cottage same time as her. I agree with you that the property is in good neighbourhood and a perfect holiday place to stay by the National Forest on the door step. As I mentioned in response to Lorna that the shower is now replaced. A new shower was installed during May/June 22 along with new paint, carpet, boiler etc plus much more for a brand new look for the house just before the property was put as Holiday Let. It was a beautiful well-loved family home; I am sure the furniture represents that. I agree that the property does need a little bit of TLC especially garden and I would take your suggestions on board regarding beds in the room and storage etc. Normally, a family of two parents with couple of kids would not struggle for storage and the cot can be put in the smallest room. I have put sufficient numbers of hangers in 2 cupboards in the main bedroom and some in other rooms but nonetheless they can be easily replaced. In terms of pot and pans, I am sure you agree that they possibly have been well used but I will ask the team to replace some of them as needed. Normally, the Property Manager is fairly good and keep things in tip-top condition but she is going through some major personal issues hence the performance may have lacked a little, I have no doubt she would be back on track in no time. But feedback like yours helps me to keep in the loop and manage things as best as possible from the distance while taking care of my Mum. Thankyou for your custom, feedback and I hope to see you back again in the near future. Much Appreciated! Property Owner

  • "The house was clean and nicely decorated - however, there was a lot that let us down during the stay."

we were staying for a month and there was no hand soap or extra toilet rolls. we said we'd like cleaning during our long stay, to which then they gave us only a few hours notice and we had to be out of the house. the ensuite shower in the main bedroom was broken too, which my mum needed because she has massive difficulty climbing over the typical showers over the baths and even after trying to get it fixed, the landlord said they would not do it while we were staying there.

Hi Katherine, Thank you for your stay, and I understand it was a need then a holiday for you. Thanks again for commenting on the house cleaning and decoration, my House-Keeping team does a great job, hence, I trust them fully and left the property in their capable hands while being abroad taking care of my own mum. I know they always leave couple of spare toilet rolls and hand soap which they send me evidence. There is a phone number for the House-Keeping Team leader who guests can contact directly to report any issue as well as to make requests for additional cleaning. I knew there was no requests made, hence, I emailed you asking when would you like additional cleaning and linen. Cleaning team did the job when it was convenient to you and to them. The House-Keeping Team Leader mentioned that you were very happy staying there and considering extending your booking beyond booked days. In terms of the on-suite shower, I understand it takes a little while to warm up the water but so far I have not received any complaint including the guest stayed after your stay. But I have asked my House Keeping team to get the shower checked regardless. I am sorry that you feel there was an issue during your stay and I apologies for that. I hope this would not stop you to come back again, hopefully, this time as holidays to enjoy as there are beautiful surroundings to explore and enjoy. Hopefully, there won't be any issue in future but if any, just in case, I urge you to contact me directly by email or WhatsApp which my phone number has been provided. Wherever possible, I like to go beyond my guest's expectations as I want them to have the best holiday experience with maximum comfort while they are in the property. Look forward to welcome you again soon. Best regards, Property Owner

  • "The property was in a perfect location for our Cross Britain Way walk, was clean and generally comfortable."

However there were issues with the wall oven switch which meant the oven didn’t work, one of the shower cords was broken at the top so couldn’t be used, extractor fans linked to light switches in the en-suite bathroom wouldn’t switch off and there were a lot of electricity cables lying about. Extra information regarding the alarm system ( and closing the key cabinet) and the heating/ thermostat system would have been useful as we would probably have turned the heating down.

Dear Deborah, I would like to say thank you for your booking as well as for invaluable feedback. In relation to your feedback, I just want to confirm the following: • There are two switches in the kitchen; one is for the oven and other one is for microwave. Red colour oven switch should not be turned off, if for any reason, this gets turned off, I will communicate this with the Housekeeper to make sure this doesn’t get repeated. Thank you for alerting me on this. • Extract fan switch in both; on suite and in family bathroom are outside wall on top of the door which can be turned off or on as needed. Light gets switched on by the cable in both and is not linked with extract fan. In term of cables lying around, I am not aware of any cable lying around. The only cables in cottage are for table lamps in bedrooms and one is for alarm devise. The lounge has two lamps and sofas are recliner which is to enhance guest’s comfort. Reclining operates with electricity, so wire needs to be connected. I think the double switch socket might be the solution, I will inform the maintenance team on this. • Alarm system and information about the heating system is enclosed in the Guest book. The heating is arranged in a way that the house will be comfortably warm. Heating system also has the boost option as and when needed, guests are informed on this in the guest book. Also, there is a contact details for maintenance firm which can contacted as required. Sykes Team is also available to support. Due to distance, I kept my own number as last resort, but it is available for guest to contact me directly. Finally, as you mentioned that the cottage is in the perfect location for your Cross Britain Way Walk, I hope to see you again and hopefully, you will have an enhanced comfortable experience. In future, any queries, I urge that you to contact me directly. Kind regards, H. Kaur Property Owner

  • "Property well presented."

Shop in village very close and open until 10pm every day (turn left at end of road) However, stairs are steep if you have mobility issues wouldn't recommend even with the advantage of a downstairs toilet. Chairs very comfortable, a couple of the cups had chips, no sharp knife and no plug or bowl for kitchen washing up. Shower in ensuite barely washes even with booster. Only hanging space no drawers for clothes upstairs. We also had problems getting in and the instructions with the key safe code didn't mention you needed to use the key fob to turn off the alarm, also slightly push the front of the key safe to help you open it. (Fairly new listing so these are just teething problems hopefully)

Dear Janice, First of all, I would like to say Thank you! for your feedback. it is very much appreciated. You are right, this is new venture for me and I am learning as I go along. I want to let you know that due to your feedback, I now have included bowl and plug in the sink, new key safe has been installed yesterday with push buttons for ease and I have also requested Sykes to include the instruction in their communication to future guests. Shower - I tested that yesterday and it has full pressure but takes little more time for hot water to come through. Family bathroom shower works perfectly fine. I have taken away the chipped cup and will put knife set as suggested. For clothing - There are two cupboards in main bedroom that have shelves on top of hanging rail, that can be used to put any clothes. I agree on a small cabinet or rack can be put inside the cupboard for other clothing. Thanks for your suggestion on to replace the chair with the cabinet in bedroom 2, I will consider that in future. I and Sykes are also in communication and in the process of improving House-Keeping. Thanks again and hopefully, we will see you again soon with better experience.
