It had all the amenities that you need. Very comfortable beds and very clean. Plenty of crockery and utensils in the kitchen. Very large garden. Very helpful owners. Has two bathrooms and a toilet not three bathrooms as described.

  • "Really enjoyed stay, didn’t realise there wasn’t any on suite bedrooms though."

I thought the the televisions could do with updating & made more user friendly could only get terrestrial tv on one of the tvs in the lounge & couldn’t get the tv to work at all in the kitchen diner. A lot of ground work going on in the garden but the owner explained what the issues were & was very friendly without being obtrusive. Facilities were great from the hot tub to the snooker room & play area for the children. Would stay again.

Thanks for your comments Richard. We will look into the issue regarding the TV’s.Hopefully the area affected by the drainage problems should improve rapidly over the next few weeks.Because of the age and layout of the farmhouse(dating back to the late 1700’s)en suite bedrooms are not a practical proposition.Kind regards David. The welcome was friendly and very helpful but not “in your face”, the property was well equipped and there was a much appreciated welcome pack. The 2 older children loved the playground, especially the trampoline and the grounds were great although use was limited by the weather. Would definitely recommend and would be very happy to return.

  • "We find it hard to fault The Mill Farmhouse."

It’s a great venue for a family gathering or celebration. The full size snooker table and the hot tub are particularly good features. The grounds are vast with a good safe play area for children. The house is warm and spacious with the emphasis on comfort and practicality more than aesthetics. Our stay was for a 70th birthday and family reunion. The weather wasn’t good but the house was so big and well equipped that everyone had such a special time without heading out as much as we would do normally. We’d highly recommend MIll Farm for get togethers. It has a happy and informal vibe. David, the owner, was an excellent host. He was always available for help and advice but in no way intrusive. And thanks David for taking a personal hand in locating a necklace left behind by one of us.

The house is warm and comfortable, with plenty of different spaces for folk to eat, chill out, play games etc. Everybody enjoyed the hot tub and snooker table, while the kids loved using the outdoor play equipment. There were also plenty of games and books to dip into. We really appreciated the festive decorations and the welcome goodies. We didn’t feel the need to venture far from the house, but enjoyed an excellent Sunday lunch at The Swan. Some of us had a pleasant stroll at Calke Abbey, while others explored nearby towns and the surrounding countryside. All in all, a fantastic and memorable stay: thank you!

The Swan and the Bulls Head were both great and we enjoyed the cream tea thoughtfully provided. Dave kept the huge garden beautifully and ever little nook and cranny were a pleasure to sit in. The house was very much a family home and very comfortable. The only thing that could have made it any better was possibly an en-suite but in an older house I understand how that may not be possible. Access to walks close by including Foremark reservoir which has different length walks a cafe and a large kids playarea. Calke Abbey worth a visit, literally up the road, where we spent about 4 hours! The local pub The Swan, which was within 5 minutes walk was dog and child friendly. We spent a lot of time in the garden playing catch and cricket/rounders.The hot tub was an awesome big plus for both the adults and kids… we ended up staying in more than we planned to as so much to do in the place. With a 6 year old, 10 year old and 14 year old and a grandma with us the big perk was the playground area / garden. Gardens are huge… can go for lovely walks. All secluded and felt safe with kids playing outside. It has a zipline (which was a big hit), trampoline, 4 swings and seesaw etc. Also has a snooker table, lots of games/books. The grounds are huge and great for walks - there is also a public footpath in front of the house fence taking you behind Repton school for a longer walk. We went fruit picking in Scaddows Farm nearby - which was a lovely place with delicious fruit to pick. Kitchen has everything you need equipment wise. Advice to anyone going is 1) do not put the postcode in satnav - as it took us to two different/wrong places in Repton. Type in Milton Derbyshire instead, which took us to the correct Main St in Milton - after no 29 Main st is a red phone box / turn left directly after. 2) take a hair dryer if you need one (but it has everything else iron/ironing board etc).

It was a dream cottage for us, probably the best we’ve stayed in. A house that was spacious, comfortable and well equipped, and huge beautiful gardens that offered all kinds of pleasures. It’s the kind of place you don’t really need to leave at all to have a lovely stay. The kids loved the play equipment and the hot tub, and we had a great time using all the grounds to play garden games, eat al fresco and relax in the hot tub. The peaceful setting was also a good environment for a variety of wildlife - we spotted deer, woodpecker, swallows and there is even a peacock that visits. Indoors, the snooker table was a big bonus and there are so many books and games provided as well as three tvs! On arrival we found a welcome pack of scones and some thoughtful provisions of milk/bread etc. The website should definitely mention the large fridge freezer and the garden games and BBQ being available as well. The garden, it is misleading to call it a garden, it is huge more like a park. It has swings, a trampoline and a zipwire and acres of space for croquet, boules. and all the ball games. You can relax in the summerhouse overlooking the sizeable pond watching the bees and insects visiting the many flowers around the edge. Then there is the house scrupulously clean with two large lounge/dining rooms, a large well equipped kitchen ,huge billiard room from which you can access the hot tub. I could go on and on. We are a family of eight, my wife , three daughters , one spouse , two grandsons (12 & 9) and two dogs. Plenty of footpaths in the area to walk the dogs. Choice of restaurants/pubs for food within walking distance, we visited The Boot , The Swan and Jaipur (Indian). My wife likes to create a theme for these holidays (this is our seventh year) The Farmhouse and garden was ideal for our Jubilee Celebrations. David (Owner) a real gent made sure the garden was pristine for our garden party and the barbecue was fully prepared and full gas bottle. My wife refuses to rent a cottage a second time but surprised us when she declared The Farmhouse "might be the exception" .

The house had plenty of room for us all to spread out and was spotless and most comfortable. The gardens were wonderful - plenty of room to run around, play hide and seek and big level areas to play football, cricket and rounders. As for the play area with its trampoline - our grandsons (aged 8 and 6) simply had a ball! The hot tub was a big hit too! A massive thank you to David for being so kind and helpful and to Mandy. (Just a pity the fridge freezer, dishwasher and trampoline were not mentioned in the listing - the last two were not spotted in the photos!)

  • "Outstanding property, spotlessly clean and a very welcoming host."

The house itself is beautiful with large comfortable rooms and plenty of space for everyone to find a place to relax. The garden is stunning (the photos do not do it justice). We didn’t need to go anywhere else. Perfect for Easter egg hunts and even a bit of snow didn’t stop us playing croquet! Worth noting that we were all adults and the property could be hard work with young children. The garden has water features, steps and slopes, and is extensive so children would need to be accompanied. It is great fun though with little bridges and places to explore. There are also several stairs and uneven floors within the property to get down to the kitchen, snooker room and sitting room. Our elderly family members found these hard work. The only thing the owners could add to improve this property, is to upgrade the cutlery and tablewares. It is a great kitchen space with a generous dining room for cooking a celebration meal, so it was a shame to eat from very cheap, small cutlery and have no serving dishes or spoons for the table. We were also missing basics such as a sieve to drain the rice. Overall, with the bonus of the hot tub and a top quality snooker room, the house was wonderful!

We enjoyed the enormous garden, the children's play equipment, badminton on the lawn, and the hot tub and snooker table. There is a lot to do in the area, and we especially enjoyed visiting nearby Calke Abbey and the National Brewing Centre in Burton on Trent. Our dog enjoyed the walks in the countryside round about. There is a pub just a short walk away and a couple more in Repton just 5 minutes away, but we preferred to stay on site. There are also supermarkets in Swadlincote which is only a short drive from Milton. In addition to all this, David is a lovely guy who is fascinating to talk to.
