  • "Although we have taken a while to submit our review (just a busy time for us), we spent a lovely Xmas at Faye Cottage."

Softly lit, warm, and beautifully decorated for our Xmas arrival, we found it cosy and comfortable – and I agree with another reviewer that the pictures don’t do it full justice. We were worried the bed might be too soft for us, but it actually achieved that happy state of being soft but supportive. We very much appreciated the welcome message and its accompanying gift which included Xmas table décor and treats as well as wine, milk and butter etc, albeit that the Cottage is well-placed to pick up anything you might need from the nearby Morrisons Local or Co-op as well as pubs and restaurants. The location of the cottage itself is peaceful despite the ease of access to the main road, bus routes to Mansfield/Nottingham etc and yet a couple of minutes further and you are in the peace and nature of Sherwood Forest; we took a somewhat longer walk to Rufford Abbey (but we could have taken the bus had we wished). The lack of an oven (though there is both microwave and air fryer) which we both knew to be the case and would not normally bother us, was a little more challenging at Christmas (but we managed to knock up something suitably festive nevertheless). The stairs are a little narrow at the bottom, so you need to watch your feet, but not too bad if you are reasonably mobile. The smallest of niggles were a saucepan that didn’t seem to be compatible with the hob and the shower pressure/flow was not great. A couple of suggestions would be a colander in the kitchen and a nightlight using the socket outside the bathroom would have made the up and down entry to that room from the bedroom (with the stairs just outside the bedroom door) feel a little less challenging at night. All that said, we wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again and Carol and Paul are clearly generous and thoughtful hosts who even followed up when they suspected we may have left some items behind.

What a lovely review!! We're very pleased you enjoyed your Christmas & We'll take on board your suggestions ' We totally agree the stairs are steep, but, we thought it was mentioned on the Sykes information notes, but, nevertheless we will recheck & maybe put more photos on to make guests aware., We are lucky to be on the edge of Sherwood forest & its lovely leafy walks, We do hope you both decide to return in the future & thank you so much for the wonderful indepth review!! It was very well received!!Thank you!! Carol & Paul Property Owner

  • "Beautiful homely cottage."

I don't think the photos capture it's real character and beauty. Very clean and a lovely welcome pack when we arrived. The location of the cottage was perfect. Access to the forest is a 5 minute walk, plenty of places to eat in the village and handy co-op less than a 5 minute walk away. Would definitely recommend and consider staying here again.

So glad you enjoyed your stay! & Thank you for the lovely comments on our cottage & the location, It's very much appeciated! Thank you so much! Property Owner
