  • "Ash cottage is a beautifully finished cottage located in an idyllic setting."

    It is fairly well equipped with all mod cons & under floor heating too. The only drawbacks, the seating in the lounge area is not particularly comfortable, neither the sofa, which was too low with poor back support, or the chair, also, the shower water pressure was extremely low, this has been mentioned several times in the owners visitor book. The bed was super comfortable, one of the best nights sleep we've had in a holiday cottage & we've stayed in many. The cottage, one of a group of 8 located on a farm, is in an ideal location for visiting many of the Peak districts attractions & beautiful places. The owners farm house is right next to the holiday home complex, with the owners on hand if there are any issues to be dealt with. You may have a look around the farm, but please be careful. Overall, a very enjoyable holiday in a beautiful location.

  • "Location is peaceful, nicely decorated and was clean."

    But, the shower has no pressure at all and is like standing in drizzly rain. The underfloor heating was not sufficient on most days, which meant we needed to use the wood burner. Single glazed windows do not help keep the heat in or the drafts out. For us the mattress was too soft, as we prefer a hard mattress.

  • "Excellent property for a quiet weekend, well equipped, out of the way ( bonus as no fireworks)."

    Settee back a bit low but that seems normal these days. Log fire good once I'd got the hang of the air flow rods. Only drawback had nothing to do with the accommodation. Derbyshire's tourist places were mainly closed the week we went due to getting ready for Xmas.

  • "We enjoyed our stay at Folds Yard and Ash cottage was very nice apart from a couple of observations which sadly would sway us from returning."

    Unfortunately, the bedroom in Ash Cottage is adjacent to the living area of the adjoining Oak cottage and there was a blocked up door which obviously had no sound proofing (and maybe just a single brick wall between the cottages) meaning you could hear your neighbours every word! You cannot expect other people to know this or spoil their holiday by asking them to lower their voices late evening so we just decided to wait until they went to bed before we did. Luckily our neighbours were not too late, but others may not be and for those who may like an earlier night after a long days walking, Ash cottage may not be the best choice. Also, the shower was disappointing, quite low on pressure. It maybe worth the owners updating the website entry to include the freezer that’s been added and maybe consider adding a blu-ray/DVD player which would help as the TV signal is not great.

  • "Ash Cottage is a stylish renovation with rustic features."

    It's impressively clean, spacious, comfortable and warm. As keen walkers, we loved the footpaths from the doorstep. Great for exploring Matlock Bath and Wirksworth. Would 100% recommend.

    The comfiest of beds (ordered the same duvet the day I got home). Warm, cosy, so clean with everything a high standard. Gorgeous setting, will definitely be returning here soon. We had such a relaxing time in a very peaceful place.

  • "Gorgeous property."

    Absolutely as advertised. Location is ideal for exploring all elements of the Peaks and cottage is the perfect place to snuggle up after a day of exploring. There is everything you could possibly need provided and it is a wonderful escape from ‘normal’ life. The cows are a delightful backdrop to any already beautiful setting.

    Quite remote but if you like it like this it’s great . Easy to get to places but you need a car. David and Sally great host. We would probably return for a short break for peace and quiet.

  • "This is a beautifully designed cottage."

    However there are a few things which could be improved on. There is a lack of storage for your clothing in the bedroom. The burner sits on a marble plinth which could be a trip hazard for anyone with mobility problems. Could do with a freezer compartment in the fridge even if it’s just for ice. Although this sounds very picky the things we have highlighted are simple changes. We had a fantastic time would definitely return.

  • "Lovely modern property all newly converted and in a fantastic rural location."

    I would recommend a thinner duvet as the underfloor heating keeps the property warm, although I think we had the warmest week of the summer! I would also double the number of coat hangers :)

The Fold Yard

The Fold Yard is an exceptional collection of eight properties that were originally constructed between 1895 and 1900. These lovely properties rest on a working farm amongst the scenic hills of Alderwasley, Derbyshire. Each of these has a wonderful farm-themed interior, patios and an excellent location close to the Peak District National Park. The Fold Yard are ideal for families, friends and even couples who are looking to explore this luxurious province. While residing at The Fold Yard you can visit Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and Kedleston Hall. Alderwasley is renowned for beautiful walks through Shining Cliff woods and the Midshires Way runs through the village near to Fold Yards. Locally the Great British Car Experience and the White Peak Distillery are only 2 miles away. The market town of Wirksworth is 2 and 1/2 miles away with local amenities, restaurants, St Mary's Walk where the ancient St Mary's Church stands, the Ecclesbourne Heritage Railway, Black Rocks and the High Peak Cycle Trail leading to Tissington. Alderwasley is on the boundary of Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site. Wirksworth 2 miles; Belper 7 miles.

Alderwasley is a scattered area of farms and a couple of local pubs located in lovely rolling countryside with undisturbed views for miles, on the southern borders of the Peak District National Park. Nearby Wirksworth is a small, charming market town on the edge of the White Peak, and is full of character, with many buildings of architectural interest, including its magnificent parish church. Visitors will enjoy exploring the ancient "jitties" and courtyards, and the National Stone Centre, as well as the delightful surrounding countryside including nearby Carsington Water and the High Peak Trail. Rock climbing and cycling can be enjoyed here at every level, and there is good walking all around. Well Dressing is unique to Derbyshire, and Wirksworth combines this tradition with a lively carnival. The annual Arts festival attracts international performers of every kind. Close to Alderwasley is Belper which is a town with a long and famous history dating back to the 13th Century, when it was then called Beaurepaire (beautiful retreat), a name that still holds true today. Now a spirited and bustling town, attractions include the North Mill, Long Row and the River Gardens. Beautiful Chatsworth House, Shottle Hall and Haddon Hall are within easy reach, as well as Matlock Bath with its spectacular cable car, the newly restored Ecclesbourne Valley Railway and Gulliver's Kingdom. Only 2 miles away, the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site in Cromford is not to be missed. A great location for a varied holiday.
