  • "Really lovely home."

Probably the cleanest place we've stayed in We didn't like the instruction manual telling us to put out the "trash" etc. It felt quite patronising and shouty We also didn't appreciate the email from Sykes with a £40 discount code that didn't actually work when we tried to use it!

  • "My daughter and I stayed at Alma Cottage for 3 nights, the house itself was lovely I have some great positives and a few could do better."

We were on a hiking holiday so didn't use kitchen or dining room hardly but did notice everything was there you needed my only upgrade would be to add another cupboard as there was only 1 small cupboard for kitchen storage luckily we just used worktop for bread and snacks. Living room we didn't use but was nice to see it had what you needed. Bathroom excellent, beds were so comfy, only 2 points I love to watch half hour of TV in bed but neither bedroom had tvs only a small niggle and the large first floor bed had a ridge in the middle due to being 2 singles but got a lovely night's sleep. Thank you to the hosts I would love to stop again.

  • "Perfect place to use as a base to explore the area."

Very homely with everything u would need. Although it is 2 bedroom I think if 4 adults stayed it would b a bit tight on space. Shame it doesn’t have an outdoors space. That said I would stay again.

  • "The cottage is lovely, however I did have a couple of niggles."

....the light on stairs that comes on whenever anyone goes to the bathroom was very annoying, it kept waking me up. I wish there was a way to turn it off. Secondly, being 5 foot 1.5 inches tall, I couldn't reach the shelf with the glasses on and had real difficulty reaching the small plates on lower shelf. I hate having to wait for my husband to help me.....perhaps a little fold up step would be good for the more vertically challenged! I would have been in trouble if my husband wasn't there! I did appreciate the little touches such as shower gel, washing up liquid etc! On the whole a lovely cottage, much better than our usual stays in travelodge!

  • "The property was comfortable and clean."

Close proximity to other attractions and owners were very quick to respond when the boiler stopped working. The only thing I would say is that it's not really a cottage. It's a house on a crowded street but we still had a lovely time.

  • "Brilliant little cottage pretty central to Buxton itself, we found it a really relaxing space with pretty much everything you could need to be able to enjoy your stay."

The little touches like a welcome basket with some snacks and a bottle of Cava were a nice touch. ( This could be a Christmas thing so hopefully ive not sold the owners down the river on that one

About the location

BUXTON

Tideswell 7 miles; Bakewell 12 miles; Matlock 21 miles.

It was the constant 28 degrees centigrade of the bubbling blue waters of Buxton's eight thermal springs that originally attracted the Romans to the town. However it was during the 18th and 19th centuries, under the patronage of successive Dukes of Devonshire, that the Palladian splendour of the Buxton of today was designed and built - including the magnificent semi-circular Crescent, The Great Stable, Hall Bank, The Square, The Pavilion Gardens and The Opera House. Today visitors continue to enjoy these magnificent buildings and gardens, as well as the Opera House's full programme and annual festivals of music and arts. There is good walking close by with rugged peaks to the north and gentle hills and dales to the south and a number of pretty towns and villages are dotted throughout including Bakewell, Ashford-in-the-Water, Castleton and Edale. The stunning properties of Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are within easy driving distance and must be seen while visiting this area. A great base for exploring the Peak District.
