Great pubs and walks from the door.Very comfy beds and everything you need.Be careful of the steps up to the garden. These are steep and slippery.Could do with new frying pans.

Very peaceful, and lovely to have two pubs in walking distance after a day out and about! Super comfy beds. As per previous comments, downstairs bathroom could do with some attention.

Easy to park outside on road. Comfortable bed and charming lounge. Downstairs bathroom is tired and cold, even in July!

  • "Really lovely cottage."

Spacious enough for 4 adults. Very clean, comfy beds. Just two things I would suggest - more than one towel per person and some bigger saucepans. Great location, near Monsal trail and 2 cracking local pubs.

  • "We found everything to be spot on - equipment, cleanliness, location, cosiness, instructions and information and comfort."

The only negative was the fact that the second bathroom was downstairs and very cold. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay though and would like to compliment the owners on their excellent taste and style. Thank you.

  • "The cottage is very quaint and comfortable, with a lot of nice touches."

It was a very cold week in December, so the heating was important & we did find this difficult to keep the place warm as we had to up the thermometer as it entered a new pre-programmed period. Once it was sussed, no issues & with a warm log burner going, it was very cosy, I suggest you take your own wood to burn. The downstairs bathroom is very cold! Beds are super comfortable. Another note that the garden is accessed via a very steep stairway, even our dog did not like going out that way, so we walked up the village street where there is a green. Great Longstone is beautiful with walks from the door, a great village shop (that sell the best Pork Pies) and 2 pubs that both have great food & beer, winner winner! I also highly recommend the Pack Horse Inn in Little Longstone, a 15 minute walk but better beer & even better food!

  • "Clean, well equipped cottage in a quiet village within easy reach of many attractions and with lovely walks from the door."

We were warned about steps to the garden, it should be noted these will be challenging for some people and small breeds or older dogs. The tv is a small screen and the Wi-Fi was erratic, but I suspect that’s due to the location- beautiful surrounding countryside makes up for it! I wanted to award 4.5 stars, as it was almost perfect! A welcome pack would have been a nice touch, but we had a very enjoyable and comfortable holiday. Sykes admin: The emailed information details didn’t print out clearly so Sykes need to address this as it’s good to have “hard copy” of the cottage details.

Head through the front door, kick off your boots in the porch area before heading into the sitting room, complete with exposed beams, two plush sofas and a woodburning stove, a lovely space to unwind each evening.

Move into the kitchen/diner, dominated with a range gas cooker, where you can rustle up a feast for the group whilst the dining table is set with crockery and cutlery.

From the kitchen doors, head outside and up to the lawned garden, where you can enjoy a refreshing beverage whilst relaxing on the patio furniture.

Continue the adventure at Matlock Bath, which offers an aquarium, the Peak District Mining Museum and the fun-filled Gulliver’s Kingdom.

About the location

GREAT LONGSTONE

Bakewell 3.3 miles.

The pretty Derbyshire village of Great Longstone is situated in a wonderful location in the heart of the Peak District National Park. Great Longstone is nestled in an enviable position, flanked by Longstone Edge, with Bakewell and Chatsworth House close by. The village offers two traditional village pubs, a shop, 18th century stone cottages and a market cross that is situated on the delightful village green. The Monsal Trail runs through the village and provides eight and a half miles of scenic traffic-free walking and cycling, with the spectacular viaduct at nearby Monsal Head and several tunnels along the route to keep the whole family interested. Just down the road lies the picture postcard village of Ashford-in-the-Water, which boasts a medieval Sheepwash Bridge, once a major crossing point over the River Wye for packhorses delivering mail from Derby. The nearby, renowned market town of Bakewell, which can be accessed via the Monsal Trail, offers a variety of shops, restaurants and pubs, together with frequent local farmers' markets. Take a stroll along the river bank to feed the ducks and geese and see the ‘love locks’ on the foot bridge. The spa town of Buxton with its Opera House is also within driving distance. You could also visit the many stately homes including the iconic Chatsworth, Haddon Hall and Hardwick Hall, or take a trip to the World Heritage Site of the Richard Arkwright Mills in Cromford, all of which are within easy reach. With the impressive castle and caverns at Castleton close by, you'll be spoilt for choice at this fantastic location.
