  • “We had a lovely week walking in the peak district.”

The location of the cottage is good with Belper within a 10 min drive which has everything you need with supermarkets, restaurants, takeaways petrol station and lots of little shops. As well as places to walk the dogs such as Belper park and the River gardens. You could walk into Belper which would take about 25 min to the town centre. There are lovely views from the cottage across the valley. The cottage itself was in a lovely location with a steep bumpy drive leading up to it with a footpath ...

The cottage itself was in a lovely location with a steep bumpy drive leading up to it with a footpath from the parking area to the house which you couldn't really use due to the over growing plants so had to walk on the grass. Upon arrival the owners were there to welcome us and had only just finished cleaning but they seemed very nice. On enterimg the cottage we found no welcome pack or cottage infomation and no visitors book which is a little strange. The cottage has a lovely country style kitchen and had everything we needed. However we had to clean various areas including the washing machine which was very dirty. I guess peoples cleanliness standards vary but for us it wasn't very clean. The living room was ok again just dated and the TV was very small and the DVD player didn't work. The open plan fire was lovely and the owners provided plenty of logs which was nice. The bedrooms were nice again shame about decor as this could easily be updated. The beds were very uncomfortable and we didn't sleep well at all. These should be renewed as this has been mentioned before in previous reviews. There was no hair dryer so we had to buy one. The bathroom was fine after we eventually found the pull cord for the shower hidden away in the imerson cupboard. Again an information pack could have prevented having to contact the owners. The heating is storage heating which was fine and nice and warm especially with the open fire as well. Overall a lovely cottage in a great location but various things in need of updating and visitors book and welcome pack is a must have. All of the above is reflected in the price as it is cheap but could charge more if a few things were sorted and updated.

Now you'll find it to be a spirited and bustling town, with attractions including the North Mill, Long Row and the River Gardens. There is a thriving local music and arts scene and the town hosts an annual Arts festival every May as well as Winter and Summer Food festivals and a monthly Farmers Market. The nearby historical village of Wirksworth is also home to a well-established Art and Architecture trail and Arts Festival every September. Just 10 miles away, the popular Peak District town of Matlock, together with its neighbour, Matlock Bath, are set in the beautiful wooded gorge of the River Derwent. The Matlocks offer a range of shops, pubs and restaurants as well as a whole host of other exciting attractions. Magnificent views down the gorge can be enjoyed from the cable car, which takes visitors up to the Heights of Abraham - a great place for all the family!
