Four adults and teenagers never felt cramped, the dog was safe to wander around without fear of getting out and this was the perfect spot to recharge out batteries.

It was a rare opportunity for us to spend time together as a whole family - 8 adults and a one year old. The house exceeded our expectations - the rooms were lovely, beds comfortable and so much space that we never felt that we were living on top of one another. The owners were very helpful, both before we arrived and whilst we were there - providing directions, helping us to sort out parking spaces and even letting us know they would be setting off fireworks on New Years Eve if we wanted to join them. The welcome pack surpassed anything we have experienced before - wine, biscuits, milk, tea, coffee, crackers, chocolates and more! The house was also beautifully decorated for Christmas which, along with a woodburner in the living room, just made it perfect. I cannot praise this place enough. We would definitely go back and highly recommend it to anyone considering staying here.

Beautifully presented with lots of lovely touches. Lots to see and do in the area, but our best "find" was the community cinema, different films on most nights, so something for most people in a week. Also cannot recommend the french Restaurant in Wirksworth we visit every time we're in the area, never disappoints. • "The inside of the Milk House was nearly faultless, very clean, modern appliances, fixture and fittings."

The beds were extremely comfortable but duvets a bit thick for the extremely hot weather we were having, maybe a thinner replacement during warm weather would be a good idea. The first thing I noticed when I walked into the property was the outside of the windows that needed a good clean. Such a shame, maybe they were due to be done very soon. The outside area was a work in progress and at present when sitting on the patio all you could see was a fence, the grounds beyond were yet to be turfed so not the greatest immediate outlook. However, stand up and look beyond and the views are beautiful. I understand from the owner that he intends to put a glass balcony in place of the wooden fence, and also to turf the land. The pathway leading to the property is overgrown and rocky and the land to the side of the property is also overgrown. I really hope the outside area is improved to the same standard as the inside of the building and then they would definitely have a five star holiday rental property. The owners were very helpful and friendly and I wish them well with their future plans.

The kitchen is well equipped and there is a lovely dining area there. We particularly liked the large lounge which is nicely decorated and comfortable. There was a great Welcome Pack in the house - the best we've ever had in a holiday cottage - which was a really nice, thoughtful touch. The only drawback was the plumbing, which was noisy. Otherwise, extremely good. Beautiful house and very well stocked. It would be useful to point out to guests that there is a lovely footpath from The Milk House to Wirksworth which runs just outside the house. Couple of immediate bullets points: The accommodation has been fitted out to a great standard throughout. The owners were willing to come over to explain things and were always responsive to calls. On arrival, the cottage was very clean and a hamper had been supplied with some essentials, which was a pleasant surprise. We stop in a lot of cottages and sometimes feel that the furniture and décor are the owner's cast offs, which is understandable. This isn't the case here as most of the furniture and appliances are new and are of a high standard. It was great for our two families as we had the lower ground floor, our friends has the upper floor and the communal kitchen and sitting room were located on the ground floor. I would highly recommend this wonderful cottage, great owners and pleasant location in the Peaks.

Just returned from a lovely holiday at the Milk House, Wirksworth. The house was perfect for us and provisions and flowers left by Hannah were very much appreciated. The house was extremely well equipped with all essential white goods plus toaster, caffitier, microwave and coffee machine. Plenty of pots, pans, china and cutlery. We loved the large lounge and kitchen area and spent some time playing games and, of course, eating and drinking! The bedrooms were all beautifully decorated and large, very comfortable beds and lots of wardrobe and drawer space, also plenty of plugs sockets in each room. We were a family group which included two children aged four and one and they shared the lower ground floor with mum and dad. Myself, husband and daughter shared the the upper floor, which made it easier to put the children to bed as there was a floor between them and us so it was quieter for them. Hannah, the owner and her partner, were on hand if we needed anything including places to eat, places to visit and local shops. My daughter had a migraine on the first night and Hannah came across in the snow and rain with a hot water bottle for her. Couldn`t have been better and I am sure that we would certainly visit again.

About the location

WIRKSWORTH

Matlock 6 miles.

Wirksworth is a small, charming market town situated just a few miles from Matlock, on the edge of The Peak District. Wirksworth is full of character with many buildings of architectural interest, including its magnificent parish church. Independent shops sit alongside the deli, butchers and bakers with a strong local food ethic. Visitors will enjoy exploring the ancient “jitties” and courtyards of the Puzzle Gardens, along with the Heritage Centre and the delightful surrounding countryside including nearby Carsington Water, Black Rocks and the High Peak Trail. Rock climbing and cycling can be enjoyed here at every level, and there is fantastic walking all around. Well Dressing is unique to Derbyshire, and Wirksworth combines this tradition with a lively carnival in May. There is also an annual Arts festival with an amazing Art & Architecture Trail in September, showcasing contemporary art and international performers of every kind. With an art deco independent cinema and a range of places to eat there is plenty to entertain. The town offers a leisure centre with a climbing wall and a small trainer swimming pool, The Eco Centre, The National Stone Centre and the Mount Cook Adventure Centre. The weekly market and monthly farmers' market provide local produce and crafts. Beautiful Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are within easy reach, as well as Matlock Bath, with its spectacular cable car, the heritage Ecclesbourne Valley Railway and Gulliver's Kingdom. Only two miles away, the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site in Cromford is not to be missed. In all, Wirksworth is a great location for a varied holiday.
