  • "We have just spent 5 days at this cottage, and it's a great place to stay."

It's very well thought out and a great base to explore the area. We had never been to this area but was easy to get everywhere we wanted yo go. Chatsworth was stunning and worth the money. The day we went was extremely hot but we managed to find some shade. The Hope & Anchor in Wirksworth is lovely and the food was good. One little tiny Criticism is that a couple of small bins upstairs would be useful. The owners information was good and the directions were correct. I would definitely recommend this cottage to friends and family.

  • "Lovely little property ideal for exploring the area."

Well eqiped with all that you needed. We visited the zoo, hired bikes, visited Alron Towers and the Poole Caverns. Pub loccated opposite was plesant, we luckily got a table the first night. We travelled with two teenage girls so a small bin in the upstairs bathroom would be useful for sanitary items or make up removal.

The cottage had everything you could need, the milk and biscuits on arrival was much appreciated. Having small children, we loved that most attractions were within 30 minutes drive. Gullivers kingdom was a big hit, as was Pooles cave. There are also lovely walks right from the front door. A wonderful cottage in a great location. We hope to return in the future.

Not just somewhere to sleep but comfortable and spacious to spend time in. It was good to have a big bed for us and my son slept well in the other room too. We appreciated the milk and biscuits that were supplied for a cuppa on arrival. The files of information were also very helpful. We loved staying in brassington and hope to visit again, I would be happy to stay at dragon hill barn on any future visit

The problem with the TV was dealt with very quickly and all was fine. Had Sunday lunch at the Miners Arms, good because you could have small or normal portions, even the small was on the large size. Weather could have been better rained a lot but still went out each day. We would definitely recommend Dragon Hill Barn to our friends. Hope to be back again soon. Keith & Margaret

  • "We found the property cold when we arrived, the bedrooms were small and clostraphobic, the sofas in the property were well used."

Thanks for your feedback. We apologise if the cottage felt cold on arrival but surprised as all the heaters were left on and we have had no complaints previously. As requested we also provided a good stock of wood and kindling for the fire. Again we are surprised that you found the bedrooms small as these are quite spacious for a 200 year old cottage in the Peak District and as exactly described and shown on the website. Property Owner

There was everything that we could possibly have needed provided within the property - kitchen equipment, instructions to use appliances, lovely fluffy towels, comfy sofas and really good to have a Smart TV with a strong wifi signal and large screen. Brassington was a lovely village to be based in whilst walking within the Derbyshire Dales, and The Miners Arms (just up the hill) was a really friendly welcoming pub - which we went to most evenings!

  • "No complaints whatsoever regarding the property itself which was excellent."

The same cannot however be said of Sykes. We own two expensive e-bikes which are both large and fairly cumbersome. Before booking the property we liaised with Sykes re the bike storage facility advertised as available. We explicitly explained the size of our e-bikes and hence the need for a large storage facility. Sykes went away to verify for us. After checking it was categorically confirmed that there was a LARGE storage facility at the rear of the property. This is a complete fabrication of the truth, as we have now confirmed verbally with the property owner. The actual cycle storage would not even accommodate one of our e-bikes and the "storage" consists of purely a rainproof cover which attaches to the wall by two hooks. Perfectly adequate I'm sure for an average sized road cycle, but that was not what we stipulated when making our initial enquiry to Sykes. We couldn't have been clearer re our requirement. A complaint made to Sykes has resulted in them blaming "human error" which is completely unacceptable. We had taken the trouble to specify our cycle storage requirements. A check was made by them and categoric confirmation given to us that the cycle storage was more than adequate for our needs. Where does "human error" arise? I am still awaiting a reply to my latest message sent to Sykes last week requesting a further explanation as to how errors such as this are allowed to occur. Hopefully they will have the courtesy to respond.

Thank you for your feedback and please accept our apologies for these miscommunications and the impact on your holiday. Feedback and further training has been provided to the agent involved and we have now issued compensation to you for the inconvenience caused. We are again very sorry for any upset caused and do hope to be able to assist in the future. We very much hope you had a lovely holiday otherwise. Property Owner

The property

This charming, 16th-century barn conversion sits in the unspoilt village of Brassington, amidst the beautiful scenery of the Peak District.

Many original features are retained, while at the same time the barn is equipped with all you could need for a week long break, Dragon Hill Barn is perfect for families looking to get away from everyday life.

After a day of exploring, settle down in the sitting room using the starter pack of logs to get the woodburner going, whilst the rest of group decide on a film from the Smart TV.

Those budding chefs can get to work in the kitchen, finished with granite worktops and all the mods and cons required to whip up a hearty feast.

Serve dinner at the dining table or make the most of a warm evening by dining alfresco style at the outdoor furniture.

Showcasing real quality, the bedrooms have been wonderfully furnished with ample storage space and fresh linen, serviced by a contemporary shower room where you can pamper yourself each morning.

Get to know the local area as you wander through Brassington, offering two pubs, The Miners Arms and Ye Olde Gate Inn, both serving food and a selection of ales, while there is also a beautiful Norman church, historic streets and a children’s play area.

Head to Carstington Water where you can try your hand a range of watersports, or if you’d prefer to stay on land, the whole area is a walker's paradises with fantastic walking and cycling trails all around, including the High Peak Trail, a 17 mile bridleway which runs from Dowlow to Cromford.

Alternatively, head north to one of the country’s first tourist destinations, Matlock Bath, boasting charming character and interest that has impressed visitors for centuries.

Offering both a relaxing escape with plenty of adventure in the area, look forward to a stay at Dragon Hill Barn.
