“This cottage was booked at the last minute, on the day of arrival, due to our original booking being cancelled.”

The cottage was huge, warm and comfortable, with loads of storage space. The kitchen facilities, bedding and towels etc all appeared to be new. We were met by the owner with the keys and a box of lovely home made scones. Inside there was tea, coffee chocolates and milk in the fridge. Very thoughtful. We were also visited by a little friendly cat and a huge beautiful pheasant. The nearby countryside is beautiful with plenty of walks from the house. Ashbourne and Carsington Water are both very close and well worth a visit. Overall a very quiet and relaxing holiday, we would like to come back.

The property

Ashbourne 4.1 miles.

Nestled in the quaint village of Thorpe, close to the thriving market town of Ashbourne, is this delightful semi-detached home, Cloud View Cottage.

Offering views of Thorpe Cloud Fell, this welcoming abode is a great choice for families and friends looking to escape everyday life and explore the scenic Peak District National Park.

After parking up in the designated parking space, unload your bags within the hall and discover the lounge, featuring a plush settee and two armchairs, perfect for unwinding on as you browse the Smart TV for your favourite series.

As you build up an appetite, move into the kitchen/diner where a great wealth of appliances can assist throughout your stay, including an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and even a washing machine, so you can pop your muddy clothes on a spin!

A door from the kitchen leads into the conservatory where you can sit back with a good book and enjoy some down time.

When the night falls, head upstairs to find the bedrooms, including a king and two twins, each presented in neutral tones that make the space feel light and airy throughout.

The family bathroom hosts a bath and shower over, so you can decide how best to prepare for the day.

To the exterior of this Thorpe cottage is an extensive garden, boasting lawned sections and an elevated patio at the rear, perfect for enjoying a favourite beverage as you catch the last of the evening sun.

From the garden you can also catch views of Thorpe Cloud Fell, a short climb which is awarded with beautiful views over Dovedale at the top.

Head into the market town of Asbourne, situated four miles away, where you can wander through the cobbled streets and browse a range of quirky shops, before stopping off for a pint and a hearty dish at one of the many friendly pubs.

If you’re seeking things to do without travelling far, take a tour of the wonderful Oswald’s Parish Church or Sudburgh Hall, while walkers and cyclists can embark on journey along the Tissington Trail - a gateway to Dovedale and the Pennine Bridleway, or venture through the lovely park and gardens of Ashbourne Park.

The town of Matlock is 16 miles away and is home to the fantastic Gulliver’s Kingdom Theme Park, ideal for a family day out; you can also visit Derby, a wonderful city with a great selection of shopping facilities and established restaurants, while the market town of Uttoxeter is perfect for those seeking a day at the races.

About the location

ASHBOURNE

Matlock 14 miles, Ticknall 24.7 miles, Bolsover 33.5 miles

Lying at the southern end of the Peak District, Ashbourne is a perfect example of an English market town - market place with stalls, eccentric street plan, narrow cobbled alleys, coaching inns and almshouses. In its heyday in the 18th century, the town was a fashionable social centre and many fine Georgian buildings remain from this period. Today the town still has much to offer in terms of restaurants and inns and is regarded as something of a haven for antique hunters - but don’t expect a bargain! For those who prefer more outdoor pursuits, the Dove and Manifold Valleys are close by. Alton Towers is just 20 minutes away.
