Talbot House

Our stay at Talbot House was brilliant.

Alan the owner is a lovely gentleman and was very accommodating and available for any questions and queries we had. The property was spotlessly clean and we were welcomed with scones and prosecco and also 4 pints of milk for that needed cup of tea after a 6 hour journey! There was also some store cupboard essentials such as salt & pepper, tea & coffee etc. Obviously bed comfort is a very personal choice but we found the beds to be very comfortable and it was great that the 2 first floor bedrooms had en-suites. Lovely clean and soft towels in all bedrooms and it was a pleasant surprise to see toiletries provided in the shower and by the handbasin. If you’re trying to travel light it’s worth knowing that there are hairdryers in the bedrooms too - the owners have thought of everything! There is parking at the back of the property which we managed to get 4 cars into and if you know the Castleton parking situation you will know that this is a real bonus. The kitchen is a great size with lots of storage which meant we could easily pack away our weeks grocery delivery which we had ordered for the evening we arrived. The fridge and freezer are also a really good size. Everything you could need is in the kitchen to self cater and we even cooked a roast for 8 on one of the days. It is worth noting that you can’t access the garden straight from the house so if your dog is with you it is a good idea to have some flip flops or crocs with you to slip on. It is literally out the back door and then the gate is next to it so it isn’t a problem but just a little tip :) So many pubs and cafes within walking distance and the famous Mam Tor is not only your view from the bedrooms and kitchen but it is also easily accessible from the house. A walk into Hope is also nice and you can take the footpath through the fields to get there or stay on the main road which has pavement all the way. We also partook in the local parkrun (Monsal Trail) and visited there again for a walk later that week. Thornbridge Brewery is only a 25 minute drive and several of our group spent an afternoon there for a tour and some beverages! We also enjoyed a trip to the local lido (15 mins in the car) which was fun and something we don’t have close by at home. It’s also worth knowing that the owner has a guesthouse next door so we had a couple of family members stopping next door for a couple of nights so we could spend sometime together in Talbot House and this was really handy. We loved our stay here and would definitely like to return in the future.

Absolutely loved our stay at Talbot House!

Perfect for what we were looking for right in the heart if the village! Loads of space - and bathrooms for 8 people. Hosts extremely lovely with thoughtful welcome gift! Couldn’t recommend it enough!!

This is the second time we have stayed at Talbot House and find it suits our needs perfectly.

It is ideally situated to enable you to park your cars safely and leave them well alone whilst enjoying Castleton and the surrounding countryside.

The rooms are big with plenty of space for everyone.

Kitchen had everything you needed. Lovely surprise, homemade scones, jam and cream plus 4pt milk in fridge.. Thank you for lovely long weekend. Shame on the weather.

Castleton is THE place to be in this area, with it's many pubs, and fabulous walks without even getting in your car. The house is large, comfortable and warm and has it's own parking - very important in such a busy place. We did a lot of walking, despite the conditions being a bit treacherous with ice and a lot of mud. The only slight drawbacks for us were that our dog will only toilet on grass, so we had to keep going across the road to find some, scooping poop in the wind and rain by the light of a head torch last thing at night! At least there was a handy bin. And the bedroom at the front was a little noisy due to traffic. But overall we had a lovely time here. Favourite pubs were the Peak Hotel (great roast dinner) The Bull and the Castle Hotel.

Very comfortable and all we needed to be able to be home from home. Great that all bedrooms have bathrooms attached. Lovely views. Great location. Fab house! Comms was spot on too when needed. Thanks.

Great house in perfect village location with parking.

Bedrooms were comfy and cosy with en-suites and a Jack and Jill. Downstairs kitchen and conservatory were a great family space for eating and playing games. Downstairs loo was handy. Would have loved a comfy chair to cosy up in and admire the view with a morning coffee. Kitchen tired but well equipped, we cooked a Christmas dinner. Lounge area was large enough for 7 adults and two dogs. Overall highly recommend as a comfy home for visiting the peaks with great walks and pubs on the doorstep . Was warm and inviting when we arrived . Nice homemade touches were appreciated, scones , jam and cream and fizz .

Our fourth consecutive year here.

Such a lovely comfortable and homely house with everything you need. All beds are super comfortable and nothing is too much trouble for Alan our host. Always a lovely welcome pack and off street parking available. Even our dog had everything here that he could possibly need. Excellent!!

Lovely location in the centre of Castleton, great access to lots of pubs and local walks.

4 car park spaces was a bonus at the rear of the property with the 4th car blocing the other 3 in. Lot of character in the property, well maintained and some nice features, and 4 large rooms. The host was excellent and responded qucikly to any question we have prior to or during our stay. The milk, prosecco, scones with cream and jam on arrival were well appreciated.

There was a lovely gift of cream tea and prosecco on arrival! The owner was always happy to answer any questions we had. The location within Castleton is good, with everything in walking distance, including lots of options for eating out.

Direct access to the outside fenced off patio area would have made it perfect allowing the dogs to be easily let out. Scones & fizz on arrival was a lovely touch. Friendly & prompt responses from Alan. Would be happy to recommend Talbot House.

This was a gathering of family members, ages ranging from 5 yrs to 81 yrs, for family wedding in Sheffield.

...3 couples, 2 children... We found the property to be lovely, comfortable and with virtually all we needed-our hosts Alan and Cassa were very responsive to our needs (especially with the loads of washing and drying-during rainy weather!) Castleton is a great base and our daughter's wedding was a beautiful and joyous occasion.....wonderful memories made...

This was a lovely cottage, ideal for our group of 3 couples.

The beds were comfy, we had an en suite for each couple. The dining area was generous and the kitchen had everything we needed. Parking for 3+ cars was a bonus. A perfect location for exploring Castleton and doing lots of walking. The owner was welcoming and we loved the scones he left us.

What a lovely relaxing stay we had at Talbot House!

The property was very clean, comfortable and spacious for two families with teens, with a well-equipped kitchen, perfect for cooking family meals. The house was in an ideal location for mooching around the picturesque village of Castleton with its many friendly pubs and stunning walks in the Peaks with the dog. Alan, our host was also super friendly and helpful! We would 100% recommend - thank you for a wonderful weekend break!

This was our third visit to Talbot House the last was around 4 years ago.

As usual it did not disappoint. The House is always lovley and cosy, the beds comfortable, plenty of hot water even when multiple people shower at the same time and the location is brilliant. Alan the host is very friendly and we had freshly baked scones on arrival. We will be back for visit number 4!

We enjoyed a family reunion in Talbot House.

Overall the house was very comfortable. Castleton was a good location. There are lots of walks from the door and a good bus service to other places. The local shops and pubs were good. The Jack and Jill bathroom arrangement on the top floor might not suit everybody.

A lovely property in a lovely village right in the middle of the peaks.

Easy access to all the spots we wanted to visit. Our host Alan was very helpful and incredibly responsive. He made a helpful information sheet of the local eateries too which we thoroughly enjoyed. Definitely will be back when we have a large family visit.

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at Talbot house for a family occasion.

We were so impressed with everything to do with our stay. The house is beautifully furnished, immaculately clean , a lovely view from the patio area and a very thoughtful bottle of wine , scones and jam provided on arrival. It is in the centre of Castleton, so easy for a walking and pub base! Alan, the owner, was so friendly, helpful and approachable.Thank you. Thank you.

Fabulous house and host!

Exceeded expectations for a lovely weekend with family and friends. Everything we needed was there and there were lovely touches to make our stay perfect - the scones, cream and jam were much appreciated on our arrival. Our first visit to Castleton and this property is perfectly located to make the most of the amenities in this lovely village. It was great to park up and not need to use the car again until we left. For a longer stay we would have used the regular bus service to explore beyond Castleton.

A truly wonderful home from home!

So cosy and spotlessly clean. We had come to Castleton to celebrate 4 family birthdays and everything we needed was provided. Alan gave us a warm welcome, and provided homemade scones and with clotted cream, a bottle of fizz and milk in the fridge. The house is right in Castleton so if walking is your thing, you couldn't have a better location. Shops and pubs all within walking distance too. Off road parking took 3 cars with ease.

We had a problem with the dishwasher tripping out, within 24 weeks had a new dishwasher delivered and installed.

Close to pubs and cafes yet a peaceful setting with excellent views. The house was very clean and had everything you needed.A welcome pack of home made scones ,cream, jam and a bottle of fizz was a lovely touch. We hope to go again and would recommend it to all.

Nice bedrooms. Kitchen could possibly do with a few more pots/pans etc, but otherwise excellent. Friendly owner. We were a party of 6 staying over New Year.

The house was amazing, beautifully appointed, warm and welcoming as were the owners - fabulous welcome items of milk in the fridge, scones, jam and cream, a bottle of bubbly, and flowers on the table all in a toasty warm house.

(It was just a bit difficult letting the dogs out to do there business as you couldn’t just let them out into a garden from the house , we did manage )

Super property in a perfect location.

House was nice and warm upon arrival and we had everything we needed. A touch of class were the scones with jam & cream and the bottle of prosecco in an ice bucket !. Big question is would we go back? Answer is a resounding YES !

We found Castleton the ideal location as a base for our walking holiday, it also has plenty of pubs and restaurants.

Talbot House provided excellent accommodation, having 4 bedrooms all with en-suite facilities and tv's. The kitchen is large with an adjoining dining area. The lounge was pleasant and comfortable. The owner runs the B&B next door, he is very pleasant and available if needed.

It is perfect. Lovely clean and well equipped bedrooms all en-suite. Nothing is too much trouble for Alan and Cass the owners next door. We really appreciated the welcome basket - a really kind touch. Perfect location with lovely pubs,small shops on doorstep and fantastic walks and options for days out

Castleton is a lovely village to visit, so many things to do and Talbot House is the ideal home to come back to.

Great holiday location for all ages.

It suited our family from babies to great grand parents. It had great walks from Castleton and lots of places to go out to eat and drink. The owner was very helpful and accommodating. We all had a great time.

We had a lovely stay at Talbot house.

There were scones and jam and cream, Prosecco, milk, dog bowls, soap in every bathroom, washing up liquid to name a few. Touches like this really set u up for a good stay! The only down side was the back door leads to a shared drive so u go down 2 steps and turn right and up 2 steps to go to the patio. The patio is secure for dogs but means u can’t just have the back door open for the dogs to wander. Also eating out is not as easy as having direct access. This was not mentioned in the listing. Overall tho a well positioned property with plenty of walking and the host was very approachable had we had any probs, which we didn’t.

Property was amazing and in a great location.

Access to a BBQ was an added bonus as weather was excellent and outdoor area in sun all day. Welcome pack much appreciated and owner was more than outstanding in providing information and help when needed. 4 generations from aged 2 to 92 all had a wonderful holiday here. Definitely recommend.

It felt like home as soon as we walked in. It was very welcoming on arrival with unexpected but gratifying luxury touches awaiting for us! Alan, the owner, made himself known to us and was on hand if we needed him. Thank you! The house was perfect for us. There was a lovely, very well stocked and spacious kitchen with a large table and great view. The lounge was very comfortable and also had a great view. The beds were really comfortable and we slept well! Castleton had everything we needed: walks - Mam Tor and Cave Dale, trip down a Cavern, an excellent meal at 1530 and many pubs. We will definitely be returning to Talbot House. It is a really lovely place to stay and we really recommend it. Furthermore, despite a grim forecast it was sunny every day! Perfect.

A perfect property for a family get together.

6 adults and 2 dogs and the house worked really well for all of us. Being in the middle of Castleton with parking is a real bonus. Treats left for adults and dogs were a lovely surprise and communication with Alan (owner) was good.

The house is in the perfect spot for accessing Castleton and surrounding area.

It is bright, spacious and airy and provided us with a fabulous place to relax. The beds are comfortable and the cooking facilities are great - there is everything you need to whip up a feast! Alan is the most perfect host and was so welcoming and helpful. All of the extra touches were lovely and the afternoon tea delicious! We had a fabulous week and would definitely visit again.

We had one week at Talbot House which was perfect for us.

It was really well equipped with everything we needed. Super comfy beds (a big plus for our family). All equipment needed for a toddler too. The host Alan was great at keeping in touch to check everything was OK, and even after we'd left. Great location and amenities very close by. 100% recommend.

The owner was very welcoming and accommodating, making sure we had everything we needed. We were especially grateful for all the fans as the temperature reached 40 degrees! Beautiful surroundings, great pubs, delicious food and a cool (literally) cave! We would highly recommend a visit.

Lovely welcoming treats left for our arrival. The property owners were there if we needed them. (which we didn’t). The house is in an excellent location with amazing views and very convenient for walks, pubs and cafés. We would love to visit again.

A very comfortable stay in a well equipped house.

Good showers and comfortable beds. Owner responded promptly to a request to turn on the heating when it was a bit chilly in the evenings - though then the weather warmed up and we didn’t need it anymore! Good location very close to 2 village shops and all Castleton’s pubs and cafes/restaurants.

A wonderful stay in a lovely house. The house is lovely. It was equipped with absolutely everything we needed and we received a very warm welcome. Castleton is a great base for exploring. There is plenty to do without having to use the car.

We loved our stay at Talbot House!

For four adults and two teenagers there was plenty of room, the kitchen was perfectly equipped, lounge was cosy and comfortable. The bedrooms were roomy and the beds very comfortable, fluffy towels in the bathroom too! The house is perfectly positioned for adventures in the Peak District, plenty to see and do locally without having to jump in the car. Castleton is a lovely village with good restaurants and a well stacked little shop should you need anything. Looking forward to a return visit soon!

The property is right in the centre of Castleton, Al facilties within a couple of minutes walk.

The property was spacious, well equipped and warm. The owner was friendly and helpful, it was nice to arrive and not immediately have to go find milk. There was a nice goody basket of pastries. Importantly in the middle of December the property was warm. Only negative was one double bedroom had a tiny sink in the en suite. Thanks and we would happily stay there again if we had a large group

Not a great weekend weather wise which made the house more more important as far as comfort and facilities are concerned. We would happily recommend it to all. A lovely house in a beautiful area, and a warm welcome from the owners. Thank you !

Excellent house for a family gathering.

All necessary comforts are provided, including a plate of welcoming pastries and milk and butter in the fridge. The owner Alan is friendly and very welcoming and keen to ensure you have all you need. Great outside seating area with a giant parasol and a gas barbecue. The house is ideally located in Castleton which is a very good centre for some great walks and convenient for many other activities in the area. We used the top floor twin as a single which was good as the ceiling does slope and would inconvenience the occupant of the bed below the slope and this also makes the chest of drawers a little awkward to access. Really enjoyed our stay at Talbot House.

Talbot House is beautifully presented with large spacious and comfortable rooms.

Everything you need is provided and more and the outside garden area is lovely for relaxing. Close to restaurants, pubs and the best walks in the area.

Spotless Very helpful owner Really comfy beds

Talbot House is a great place to stay and location for exploring and walking the many sites near by, we visited the caverns, Bakewell, Buxton and Matlock.

The house was very clean with all the facilities you require for a comfortable stay. The welcome pack was much appreciated and saved us shopping time on our day of arrival. The house is well located within the village of Castleton and all the pubs, restaurants and shops are within easy walking distance.

Lovely walks from your doorstep. Talbot House is a wonderful, very spacious & comfortable property & we enjoyed the fresh bread & Prosecco left by Alan who was very welcoming. Barney, our black Labrador also had an amazing holiday as the majority of pubs, restaurants & cafes are dog friendly and it’s fair to say he got most of the attention. We will definitely return to Talbot House.

It wasn’t show on the listing do we weren’t sure but the parking was just at the back of the house so perfect for us with kids.

House spotlessly clean and comfortable. Owners who live next door and run a book a room service could not have been more helpful. situated in the beautiful village of Castleton, with all the local amenities at hand. Welcome pack with home made bread a lovely touch. Only down side we took our dog away with us, advertised as a garden but more of a small sitting out area. Not directly accessible from the house. This meant putting the dogs on a lead in order to get them outside to patio area. Having said that beautiful walks right on your doorstep. Home from home feel. Despite garden would book again.

The location on the edge of the village was easy to find and parking sufficient for at least three cars, which we need for our party. Talbot house is large, comfortable and nicely positioned with lovely views from the back patio garden. Castleton is an excellent centre for exploring the Peak District and there are several walks and places of interest nearby without the need for a car.

Booked for long weekend with friends to walk Jacobs Ladder, great experience.

We had three nights in Talbot house and was very impressed by this beautiful property. The standard of decoration and comfort was fabulous, super comfy beds...essential after a long day hiking! The welcome pack when we arrived was very generous and the owner who was most welcoming, allowed us to unload the cars even though we were 2 hours too early. Good sized kitchen with plenty of crockery & cutlery & glasses and a double oven made catering for 8 people much easier. If we needed to be critical, we felt more 'dishes' generally would have been useful, we used the cereal bowls for everything but generally it fitted the bill and everything worked! We were genuinely Impressed with Talbot house but this is feedback so the only critisism we felt was a bath would have been nice and the shower rooms were a bit 'bijou'. Castleton was fabulous and we experienced the delights of most pubs and enjoyed a lovely meal at the George. We definitely want to return to this beautiful place and wouldn't hesitate to stay at Talbot house again.

The three bathrooms really helped as we were 8 adults sharing . Alan, the owner, greeted us and explained everything but then left us alone . So helpful and friendly!

We were a family of 6 adults and 2 toddlers, the younger sleeping in a cot provided.

The house was plenty large enough for us, well-equipped and perfectly located for touring and walking in this part of the Peak district. Parking 3 cars behind the house was slightly onerous but soon got used to it. The owner Alan was very approachable and helpful, the welcome pack was much appreciated. Castleton and nearby Hope are lovely small towns with ample pubs and restaurants as well as local shops for daily needs. We are happy to recommend the property.

Talbot House served us well for a week walking in the lovely Peak District.

The house was spacious, clean and well set up. Couple of upper floor windows would not open - probably due to fresh paint or H&S ? Overall we enjoyed the week and were satisfied with the friendly service & good property

Talbot House was very well equipped to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable.

The kitchen equipment was extensive for occasions when we catered for ourselves, yet handily located for meals out in the village. The local bakery across the road was an added bonus, providing fresh bread, croissants and delicious pork pies. Our two dogs were well provided for and soon settled in.

Lovely comfortable spacious house, very well equipped.

Owner lives next door and is available if required albeit we found everything fine and didn’t need to seek him out. On arrival we found a tray comprising a loaf of bread, salty butter, cookies and Prosecco - a very welcoming gift. Thoughtfully they had also left a bottle of milk in the fridge and tea and coffee had been provided - everything you could need before a trip to the shops to stock up. There were lots of touches like that - an OS map on the wall to get acquainted with the area, board games in the cupboard, bowls and treats for the dog, blankets for the dog to lie on - to name but a few. Our dog is old and doesn’t take too kindly to change but he was made so welcome he settled quickly. Castleton is a lovely village with lots of nice eating places. We can recommend The Peak Hotel, The George, and Tilly’s TeaRoom, all of which are dog friendly (as are, apparently a number of others, but as we were out and about in other areas these were the ones we tried in Castleton). For provisions Pevrils Store & Bakery is a MUST. Their bread is delicious - we bought varying different loaves of bread every day (sometimes twice it was so delicious) and cakes, and the staff are friendly and helpful. Talbot House is a lovely base from which to explore the Peak District

Talbot House is a lovely place in the centre of the village, it has everything you need for a comfortable stay as well as a few very welcome goodies on arrival!

The Talbot House is an excellent holiday home.

It is perfectly situated in Castleton, near all the amenities. The house is spacious, very comfortable and has everything needed for a great stay. I highly recommend the property. This was our second visit and have already booked for next year.

This was a fabulous base for exploring the Peak District and offered us everything for which we could want.

Mr Baskerville was as accommodating as he possibly could be (especially considering our unexpected feline needs, and a blind husband when it came to looking for an iron!). The house was spotlessly clean, and the space caters for lounging, dining and after-dinner games. We all slept soundly ... so be sure to bring an alarm clock!

There were 4 couples, and a young child, in our party, spanning 3 generations.

Plus our well behaved dogs. And we all had a fabulous time! The owners were extremely animal friendly. A bowl of water was already set down in the kitchen waiting for its first thirsty customer and there was a full jar of doggie treats provided! The rooms for the adults were so clean, cosy and attractive that we all slept well and enjoyed the lovely bathroom facilities. The downstairs loo was a bonus. The kitchen/diner was huge enough for us all to congregate in as meals were prepared. All the equipment we needed was there. We sat at the lovely big table, taking in the wonderful view. We didn't watch much tv, but it was in a wonderful, cosy lounge, big enough for us all. The situation is fabulous for a base to explore the town and surrounding countryside and has plenty of parking space. We met the owmer, Mr. Baskerville, who was so nice and helpful. We do hope the dogs didn't disturb him as they were a bit unsettled the first night, so we do apologise for any inconvenience. We definitely hope we get chance to visit again sometime. The cottage is fantastically situated with wonderful views and close proximity to the shops, public houses, fabulous walks and the most wonderful bakery which became a regular haunt.

In fact this holiday break became all about the cake! We did have one mishap whilst at the cottage but this was sorted efficiently and without any fuss which is a credit to both Sykes Cottages and to the owners of Talbot House, we couldn’t have asked for more, and for that we would just like to say “thank you!” The cottage itself was comfortable and well equipped, which contributed to feeling homely in a very short space of time and adding to the enjoyment of staying. We didn’t make use of the patio area due to the inclement weather but please be mindful that there is no direct access from the house - you need to go out the back/side door and then into the gated patio area - This won’t be a problem for most people but may be a consideration for families with small children or pets. Overall we had a lovely stay, with a wonderfully generous welcome pack, in a cottage that was well placed to meet the different needs and interests of all who were staying. Thank you!

It is comfortable and spacious and the owner, Alan, could not do enough for us. He made us feel extremely welcome. And it is in a perfect location in Castleton, close to all the pubs and shops. We will be returning.

The house is very comfortable and warm. Alan, the host was next door and very friendly and helpful. The location is superb - right in the middle of Castleton so no need to use the car as you can do lots of walks from the front door. Including to several pubs! Lovely comfy sitting room and nice big kitchen with a large table for group meals. Excellent dishwasher but the house could probable benefit from a few more mugs. Not a criticism, just a suggestion. Lovely clean, soft white bedding and large towels. When we did use the car we went up to Ladybower reservoir which is about 6 miles away and there are several fantastic walks from the visitor centre. Great rental property. We will certainly book again.

This property is exceptional in location and facilities and friendliness of owner - minutes walk from centre of Castleton but with a rear garden to chill out in.
