Another thoroughly enjoyable stay at The Old Sawmill and I will most definitely be visiting again.

Superb accommodation which is top quality throughout. A big thank you to Shirley and Phillip and Gemma who are all very extremely kind and helpful and top notch hosts .

Absolutely everything about Elmwood was perfect.

It was luxurious accommodation in beautiful surroundings, and the owners were kind, helpful and friendly. The "Welcome Goodies" on our arrival set the tone for our entire stay, and we enjoyed every moment.

Seven months after my first week to Elmwood, I have just returned from another week.

It is still just as good as previously, and I am trying to make plans for a third visit. Shirley and Phillip run a superb establishment, whilst still converting the Old Sawmill. Their attention to detail is remarkable. There are so many walks within easy reach, and I still haven't done some close at hand. Even if the weather is not perfect (as does occasionally happen!), I was happy in the knowledge that Elmwood is a comfortable retreat with excellent cooking facilities.

The apartment is kitted out with a great eye to detail and high quality. Only gripe was poor WiFi and other occupants in the block were less than considerate in terms of noise.

I had a most enjoyable stay here for seven nights.

Shirley and Phillip were always very friendly and helpful, and I was overwhelmed by the attention to detail (in skilled craftsmanship and home-making) they had put into making Elmwood so clean, comfortable and easy to use (microwaves in some establishments are impossible to work out!). Their skill in creating such a beautiful apartment was mind-blowing. They had thought about everything, and provided so many useful gadgets and cooking facilities. Full marks all round.

Gorgeous building, gorgeous host had the best time and would love to go back for longer!

The owners are very passionate about restoration and the quality of the finished work is superb. We hope to visit again. There is some work going on but this had no impact on our stay - on the contrary it was interesting to see what was going on

Elmwood is a lovely clean apartment near a lovely village.

The grounds were not what we expected from the pictures as there was a lot of building work going on so environment was not as pretty as we expected. The WiFi was not reliable and went off at intervals.

We enjoyed our time at Elmwood.

The apartment is very well maintained and appointed. A good base to explore the surrounding towns and countryside. Car parking is no problem.

The place itself is extremely interesting. There is high quality throughout. Just a pity we found the WiFi was a little unstable at times.

The development of the old mill is most interesting. The apartment is spotlessly cleaned, well equipped, warm and comfortable. Philip's workmanship is a joy to behold. This our 4th visit to Elmwood and I'm sure we will return many times.in future years Thoroughly recommended.

A perfect stay in wonderful accommodation in a beautiful part of the Peak District.

Lovely countryside walks on the doorstep, including the pretty village of Longnor and the friendly pub which is just a few minutes walk from the property. We did lots of exploring but enjoyed returning to Elmwood for cosy evenings where we had all we could possibly need, including a generous welcome pack which was an added bonus! We are full of admiration for Phillip and Shirley and their loving restoration of The Old Sawmill. We would love to return and would highly recommend this apartment to future guests. Thank you once again - it was a real pleasure to meet you both!

Probably the best holiday accommodation we’ve ever staying in.

Really top quality. The woodworking is first class, lovely location, really nice hosts.

Elmwood Cottage was the best cottage we ever had.

Everything was perfect. Shirley and Phillip are a very interesting couple, which we will miss . They were an enrichment of our holiday. We have to thank them for their time.

We have stayed at a number of lovely Sykes cottages over the years, but Elmwood is the most immaculately created and presented by some distance.

The craftsmanship on show is wonderful, and the layout and fittings provide for an extremely comfortable and uplifting stay. It was spotlessly clean. The owners are terrific: super-friendly, generous and helpful, but leave you to enjoy your holiday. Location allowed for access to a great mix of lovely walking and visits to places of interest. Hayfield and Kinder Scout circular walk (10.9m) was absolutely fantastic.

Lovely relaxing stay at Elmwood at the Old Saw Mill.

Elmwood has everything and more you would need for your stay and is immaculate in every way. Phil was a great host and provided a really interesting tour of the building and his history with it. Shops, a tasty Chippy and a lovely pub (we tried them all!) are just a short walk away on a quiet road. We would definitely return.

Elmwood is a stunning holiday property which sets the bar for others extremely high.

We relaxed as soon as we set foot inside. All the amenities are of a high standard and nothing has been missed. Walk in shower with lashing of hot water was very welcomed after walks in the surrounding hills as was the king sized bed. Great location for walks from the doorstep and travel to Buxton or Bakewell. The host left us an amazing welcome pack which included bread, milk, wine, small jams, tea, coffee etc and was very much appreciated. They have put their heart and soul into the restoration of the Saw Mill and it is a fascinating building. We wish them all the very best for the future and we will certainly be booking again.

Absolutely gorgeous place; pristine condition, fantastic location, ample parking, modern appliances and facitilies while still mainting a cosy cottage feel, everything thought of by the lovely owners - who even provided eggs, bread, milk and a bottle of wine, which we discovered upon arrival and was greatly appreciated!

All these factors made our stay here one to remember and I would highly recommend this location to anyone thinking about staying.

The apartment is beautiful crafted and well appointed with everything you need and more for your stay.

Lovely and peaceful surroundings and great location to explore the surrounding area and the Peak District highlights. Chatsworth is close by and a must, and the farm shop cafe in nearby Hartington does a lovely breakfast. Buxton is close too with all the amenties and some great restaurants to try. We are looking forward to our next visit in the future and to see how the owners are progressing with the sawmill and the fabulous and heroic work that the family are doing to save such a beautiful building.

This was our second stay at Elmwood and once again we were not disappointed.

This is a fantastic apartment finished to a very high standard. Very clean and comfortable. Lovely comfy bed with crisp cotton sheet gorgeous fluffy towels. A very well equipped kitchen and loved all the little treats left for us. Shirley and Philip are such welcoming hosts. We will hopefully be back next year. Thank you.

The apartment is immaculate, high spec equipment, fixtures and fittings and has been refurbished by Philip to the highest standards. The underfloor heating is excellent. This was our third visit to the property and despite being unlucky with the weather this time, we'll be back again without doubt.

Beautiful cottage in lovely surroundings.

My partner and I had a wonderful three night stay here and would highly recommend it to anybody wanting a relaxing stay in the Peak District. Only a couple of very minor issues. First, the kitchen area has very little available space for food preparation, so if you're thinking of cooking a meal then you may have to get creative. Second, the paving stones outside can become *very* slippery. We stayed during one of these storms which are currently sweeping across the country and there was a lot of rain. In gentler weather I'm sure it's fine. Be careful! But this is tantamount to nit-picking and overall I would rate this is an exceptional property. The bathroom and bedroom are finished to a very high standard, the living room is compact but comfortable, on-site parking, and very friendly hosts.

The owners left a welcome pack of eggs, bread, milk and even a bottle of wine! The information pack was really useful showing all the different local walks and also the history of the The Old Sawmill. The village shop is less than a 10 minute walk and the pub too! We would definitely recommend this property to anyone wanting to stay in the Peak District and we hope to return soon

A fabulous setting and an ideal position for exploring the Peak District. We didn’t have time to visit the Mill or Phillips workshop, rest assured when we stay again we will make time!

Elmwood proved to be an ideal base to explore the surrounding area.

Very impressive accommodation that has been restored to a very high standard by the owners. Comprehensive welcome pack left by owners which enabled us to have a hot meal with a glass of wine, very welcome after a long drive. Philip justifiably proud of his woodworking skills and very happy to discuss the rebuild whilst showing us round his impressive workshop. Overall a wonderful week and we look forward to visiting again.

We didn’t know what to expect but the quality of the accommodation was stunning.

It’s called Elmwood and master craftsman owners Phillip and Shirley have created a true Elm lined gem over many decades. They explained their plans for the old mill and showed us their enthralling workshop. They are true enthusiasts. In addition we were left a starter kit of many unexpected provisions. A wonderful experience.

Very well done out to a high standard and owners very nice people. We loved the way it had been done to keep the charm of the old saw mill . Beautiful arched wooden windows and all amenities of a very high standard. Just lacking a bit of work top space in the kitchen but you can't have everything can you? Longnor was only a few minutes walk away with a lovely fish shop and pub doing food. We thought the village very nice with a lovely church and a lot of history. We found plenty of nice places to visit in the area with out having to drive to far.

The old mill was refurbished to an exceptional standard, everything from neff appliances to the fantastic bathroom.

A lovely break in the Staffordshire Moorlands and my husband found The Old Sawmill fascinating. Phillip showed him around the work in progress and also his workshop. Certainly has been a labour of love for over forty years. We wish them all the very best for their future and the work they have committed themselves to.

The apartment was beautifully furnished, it had all the equipment we needed to cook lovely meals .

The shower was wonderful and the bathroom was beautiful. We loved the bottle of wine waiting for us and a few other treats. We had a wonderful time. It was lovely and pleasant. My boyfriend and I enjoyed the best week together in the Peaks in this beautiful apartment.

It was so tranquil yet so much to do, all located in a short drive away. Longnor itself was a great base for us, with a great local pub 5 minutes walk away! The hosts are most inviting, giving us a tour the impressive project underway at the Old Sawmill and leaving an array of gifts on arrival. Lots of thought has gone into this holiday getaway and it definitely shows - we definitely recommend the visit!

This place is so peaceful and relaxing.

Good walks close by. Everything is of a very high standard. Nothing has been overlooked. The kitchen is extraordinarily well equipped for a holiday let. A luxurious bathroom, which would have been even better if there had been more hot water to fill the lovely bath. A very comfortable bed with high quality bedding. The attention to detail on the owners hand crafted doors and window frames give an indication of the love which is going into this restoration. An invitation to tour the onsite workshop was an education and a joy. We will be keen to revisit soon.

There was no DVD player and there was no thermostatic control on the heating so had to leave the windows open and got bitten.

Also the water temperature was insufficient

Everything we needed and would recommend . We found the bed a bit hard since it was just a matress on a solid wood base but that is obviously personal.

The inside is immaculate. Could be difficult if you're not steady on your feet as it's marble flooring but lovely otherwise. Very helpful owners who were available to ask for advice and keen to show us round the renovation.

This apartment was spotlessly clean and equipped to a very high standard.

Even the kitchen utensils exceeded our expectations. The Saw Mill is set in beautiful countryside and proved an ideal touring base for the White Peak district. The owners live on site and couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful. The whole Mill is being converted to holiday lets by the owners and completed to a new "Gold Standard" for self catering accommodation. For any man with woodworking knowledge, Philip's standard of cabinet making leaves one in awe. We had a most enjoyable week at this property and will return.

For us the location was ideal walking within easy reach, visiting NT and places of interest within easy driving covering three Counties. Such hospitality from the owners and very interesting history of their commitment to detail and such high standards in the renovation. Made this a very memorable week.

This apartment is more beautiful than photos can convey.

It is immaculate. Each door, window, cabinet, and several of the pieces of furniture have been handmade by the owner and demonstrate a remarkable level of craftsmanship. The property is fascinating and the nearby village and countryside are lovely. The hosts were warm and gracious. We would definitely return!
