Positives: double bed really comfy & lovely clean sheets etc, great location, really warm cottage & cleanish!

WiFi worked well & court yard secure for dogs. Unfortunately needs a lot of updating, twin room beds really uncomfortable lamp & sockets not near bed, beware the toilet & shower downstairs not up, shower door hanging off, settee very uncomfortable, no parking near cottage for off loading, although car park was near & pass was helpful, no milk for tea when you arrive & key safe very high up to see numbers. For the amount we paid you could definitely find somewhere nicer.

2nd visit to mill leat,lovely cottage ,great location and layout,will defo be looking at rebooking again, if one slight negative itl soon be ready for a bit of tlc in areas and a paint up,still great tho and wud recommend,thanks

This is a lovely quaint and quirky cottage in a fantastic location in the very centre of Castleton.

The free parking in the main village car park just 50 yards away was a bonus. The outdoor washing facility (for dogs and boots) and the private courtyard were great. Really well equipped and very warm and cozy. Excellent.

My general impression is that the property could do with some T.

L.C. The property was generally clean, but many areas need attention. The shower is good, but the grout is black and needs mould removed. The advertising does not mention it downstairs. The beds in the twin room are very hard. The double room bed just needs replacing; the mattress is very old. In my opinion, this property needs updating throughout to make it special, as its position in the village is excellent.

It’s so cosy and smells so good! Our dogs settle well and the walking is just on your doorstep. Christmas decs looked very cute too!!

We really enjoyed our stay at the property as it was warm and comfortable and had everything we needed.

It is in an ideal position literally a five minute stroll from Castleton shops. The added bonus of a bottle of wine and chocolates top it of. We had a great time thank you.

We visited in late November and it was warm and cosy. We couldn't find a thing wrong, it was perfect. Highly recommended this lovely cottage in the heart of Castleton.

A fabulous little cottage in a picturesque setting, well equipped and beautifully decorated with lots of nice little touches this place is a real home from home.

Mill Leat was easy to find from the directions, immaculately clean and tidy on our arrival and we were welcomed with milk and a bottle of Prosecco waiting in the large fridge freezer. Everything we needed was supplied and the Wi-Fi worked perfectly throughout - much to the delight of our teenager. From the heart themed decor, fluffy towels and lovely wall pictures to the comfortable beds, sofas, games cabinet and soft furnishings this cottage is a real gem. The private patio garden is very secure for dogs, not overlooked and nicely decorated with a table and chairs, flowering pots and a gentle stream flowing across the back. Very pet friendly there is even a dog shower and dog towel provided for your four legged friend - so many thoughtful touches everywhere you look really made our holiday for us all. The cottage owner helpfully left a folder with contact details in case of any queries and lots of useful instructions and information for the cottage and local area. The permit for the car park right across the road also covered most other local car parks so was very helpful during our stay. Castleton itself is a beautiful village with plenty of choices for cafes, pubs and restaurants and well stocked independent shops. An ideal location for exploring the Peak District and wider afield. So pleased we chose to stay here a wonderful high quality property to be highly recommended 5 stars all round.

Arrived at the property for our stay and found it had not been cleaned from the previous stay.

We contacted the owner and a cleaner came out to the property straight away and was very apologetic. We went for a drink locally while it was then cleaned. Unfortunately they only spent 45mins cleaning the property which was not enough and the floors were not clean for our stay. We had to keep our shoes on in the cottage otherwise our socks were filthy. They did contact us the next day to refund us a night's stay for the inconvenience. We really loved the location and still had a great time overall with friends.

This is a delightful cottage and we had a lovely weekend here.

Perfectly situated and handy having the parking permit. The beds were comfy, rooms cosy and shower nice. Plenty of storage space and hangers if you are staying a while. Could benefit from having a thorough clean as a few dead spiders and cobwebs that had obviously been there a while, however this wouldn't put me off returning.

Lovely little cottage right at the heart of the town!

Walks from the door! Plenty of kitchen supply’s so you can cook, good sized fridge and nice shower. Only thing I would recommend (although this didn’t spoil the holiday) would be a bigger TV screen. We like to settle at night with a drink and watch TV and it was a small screen and hard to view when sat back on the sofa. Would recommend the cottage!

It’s our second time at this cottage and we loved it , it’s a lovely place and it’s what we needed, like before I think to refuge system needs clarification like labels saying what goes where and the tv needs updating so that regular tv can be watched through the internet, don’t get me wrong watching tv should be the last thing done in this lovely village.

These are not complaints just suggestions.

.it had everything in it that we needed. It was very clean and warm when we arrived and we were left a lovely bottle of prosseco to welcome us. The car park pass was great. Highly recommend this cottage if you are planning a stay around the area

We very much enjoyed our stay at Mill Leat, the cottage was very comfortable and the log burner made the evenings very cosy , although we had a few teething problems at the start of our week they were very quickly rectified by the owner.

Our stay coincided with heavy snowfall so I was a little apprehensive that it might be cold and that i would need to venture out for more firewood however, I need not have been.

There was no need to use the log burner a all during our say and at no time did we feel the cold. The master bedroom was warm, plush and tasteful. The kitchen well appointed with decent equipment and the lounge comfy and cosy. Security is great, with an enclosed courtyard, with locking front gate and lighting. The cottage was in a beautiful setting, on the main walker's roue to Mam Tor and across the street from the main village car park and Peak's visitor centre, for which the host includes a parking permit. What a beautiful spot, I could happily retire here!

Idéal central location.

Cosy & warm nicely decorated for Xmas.Parking permit a bonus as we could just leave the car & go for long walks without paying outrageous amounts of money.Would definitely recommend.

Loved our stay at Mill Leat and was just what we needed.

Perfect location for Castleton and a added bonus having the car park permit to use Secure little courtyard for our crazy spaniels and having the flower pots in front of the stream helped stop them from jumping straight into the stream Very cosy and warm cottage and provided everything we needed to use for our holiday. Owner is also brilliant and responded very very quickly when we had a small problem with the shower.

Lacks general maintenance and attention to small details that make all the difference.

Some dirty crockery in cupboards (put in dishwasher) , chipped glasses, stained towels, no matches or firelighters, lack of info on recycling bins, broken radiator control in bedroom, garden needs weeding/tidying (did do some weeding). Nothing major, just niggles. Cottage would be perfect if owner sorted above issues as in great location. Parking permit useful, thank you, as no room to park outside (drop off only) as would block residents access to their drive. Have hired a lot of cottages from Sykes and not encountered any issues previously.

We had a lovely stay at Mill Leat.

We felt the house was as described, it was clean and tidy and all fully functioning. It was a fantastic location for food, walks and generally being in the peaks. The parking worked really well with the pass and we found the owners responsive when we asked any questions. We would recommend staying at Mill Leat.

We have stayed at this cottage twice now and have really enjoyed every minute being there.

Clean & very cosy with everything you could need for a lovely holiday. It's so central to all the pubs ,restaurants, cafes and lovely walks. All the other places around Derbyshire are easy accessible from Castleton

Lovely little cottage great location and very comfortable.

Only little niggle courtyard and pots needed weeding sweeping and jet washing. All in all an enjoyable stay.

Positives: excellent location, comfy bed and sofas Negatives: poor standard of cleanliness: The courtyard needed sweeping, door mat not down and there was no decent brush for us to clean it up.

There was previous tenant's food still in freezer. There was debris under the sofas and floors felt sticky. The drainage needs attention as the kitchen sink and shower tray were slow to drain. This was our third stay but will be our last as the cottage does need some attention.

We were disappointed - the cottage looked lovely on the photos and the courtyard looked really nice.

However, on arrival we found all the bins were overflowing (the photos don't show that the bins are in the courtyard next to the table and chairs). I know bins have to be there, but the photos did not reflect a true picture. The Courtyard could do with a tidy up. I did text the owner and they did get someone to empty one of the bins and take away all the bottles left by the previous people. The cottage is however in an excellent location and it is a quaint cottage with character. It just needs a tidy up and a bit of attention. We could smell bleach when we arrived, but the floors did not appear to be very clean. I tried to find a mop but there was just an old one which I didn't use. So I got on my hands and knees and washed the floor. The beds were comfy, but the bedding could do with replacing. The shower room is beautiful and that was clean and tidy. I just needed to feed this back as it is a lovely area to stay and Castleton is beautiful. I just wanted to arrive to what I saw on the photos.....

This was our 2nd visit here.

In a great location for local transport, walks etc. We took 2 dogs with us and the outside area was perfect. Very secure and with the sink to be able to wash them off in. Cottage had everything we needed, the wine left for us was appreciated. Lovely cosy living space. Nice pub next door, with friendly staff, good food and atmosphere. Would recommend Dolly's, along the path, for breakfast.

Lovely very cosy and comfortable cottage in great location.

Very peaceful and quiet. Well stocked with crockery, cutlery etc. Excellent shower and comfy beds. Our only negative was it was very dusty under settees and main bed(discovered when retrieving the dogs ball and toys) but this did not detract from our stay and we would not hestitate to stay again.

Lovely cottage right in the centre of Castleton.

Warm and comfortable, and equipped with dishwasher, washer and dryer. Nice courtyard with a table and chairs, and a stream running through...sadly too wet to sit out during our stay but would be perfect in the summer. Cooked there a few times, hob and oven work well. Only thing id say is some oven gloves and a would be handy. All in all a great stay and would definitely return.

The cottage and location were fantastic.

Loved seeing lots of people walking past and being so close to pubs, shops and amenities. The equipment in the cottage was just what we needed especially the washing machine and tumble dryer. Everything was to a high standard. I just think I was overly ambitious about having 4 adults and 2 dogs in a cottage that size while the weather was very rubbish. We needed more living space for us.

We had a lovely relaxing weekend in this lovely cottage situated in the beautiful village of Castleton.

Plenty of walking routes in the area and interesting places to visit. Places like Buxton or Bakewell within easy driving distance. We really enjoyed our break thank you.

Perfect location for our short 2 night walking break with the dogs.

The cottage was lovely clean and well kept, loved the decor and found the cottage very cosy. Although we didn’t use it, the parking permit for the Peak District it was a brilliant idea. Would most definitely book again and look forward to out next trip to Castleton.

The house was wonderful, the description was spot on loved it’s location and the car park season ticket was most welcome.

Not sure it would fit 4 fully grown adults but for the 2 of us and one part time child( flying from Manchester after day one)and dog it was perfect. Only negative it was missing washing up liquid bin bag and cleaning sponge but that was easy sorted via local shop. Would love to re visit Many thanks for the use

The property sits in a nice position in Castleton, close to the car park.

It was warm and cosy and had just enough equipment for our stay. A nice touch was the owner messaging us directly on Day 1 to check we had settled in and found everything we needed.

Lovely property.

Cosy, nicely decorated and everything you could need in a central location. Nice to have outdoor space too. 2 large adults were a bit snug I the smaller bedroom but only a tiny drawback.

There was no issue with the parking permit and parking in the car park opposite . Was perfect for us.

The outside space was fabulous with our dog & we spent early mornings & nights sitting outside.

Our fault we didn't realise the toilet was downstairs so that was a bit awkward in the night. The owner was so lovely & receptive when we rang her & the cottage is cosy, very clean & welcoming for dogs as well as people.

Characterful cottage in a lovely village.

Parking limited but pass provided for car park across the road so wasn't a problem. Cottage had everything we needed and was in a great location in Castleton. Lots of wonderful walks on the doorstep - maps and walking books are available from the Tourist Information office across the road. Stayed 4 nights with our dog. We ate out in the local pubs and Italian restaurant in the village (plenty of choice and all dog-friendly) so didn't need to drive anywhere. Great place to unwind!

Very enjoyable stay at Mill Leat Cottage, well equipped and comfortable.

Perfect location, parking with supplied permit in car park opposite, easy to off load outside property if needed. I would recommend but only slight negative comments would be cleanliness, cobwebs from lamps and dead flies on surfaces (lounge and bedrooms). Soft furnishings look dated (throws and cushions). Outside area really needed a good sweep and store room with Tumble Dryer (vent full of fluff) could be more inviting, very messy. Nothing would put us off visiting again but owner may want to address comments raised to improve visitors stay.

Having read the previous feedback I was very disappointed; the cottage was tired and in desperate need of painting in every room.

Having read that DVD's were available, we took a box set which we had been saving for ages to watch in the evening - There was no DVD player! It also stated that there was a clothes airer available, again no sign of one, we had to dry clothes over the table and chairs in the courtyard - leaving us nowhere to sit. Very expensive for what it is! There is one redeeming feature - it is in a great location

Beautiful cottage, very comfortable, clean, really nice fixtures and fittings, lovely private, secure and secluded yard which the dogs loved.

One of the nicest cottages I've stayed in and will definitely book again. Could’t leave comments in the guest book as I didn't bring a pen and there wasn't one at the cottage, which would come in handy. But apart from that I couldn't fault it whatsoever, thankyou.

A real home from home, very comfortable and had everything we needed. The outdoor space was a lovely bonus to sit out in. Had a minor problem with the shower door, but did not spoil our trip. Would recommend and stay again.

The cottage was very cosy and comfortable. There was everything we needed for a home from home stay. It was nice to have the outside space with facilities to clean our dog off outside after a muddy walk. The car park with a free permit was very close to the cottage. There is space to unload luggage outside the cottage but unless you have a small car it would be difficult to park. We would definitely stay again when we next visit Castleton.

Really lovely place! I’m definitely coming back. Two minor points for improvement; 1) a bigger double bed would be better 2) the shower screen (LHS) door needs maintenance.

We had a lovely little break from reality in this nice cosy little cottage.

I'm not a stranger to Castleton, but it's the first time we have stayed in this cottage. From the moment we opened the door we had smiles on our faces. Would definitely stay again. Loved the cosy feel of the fire at night. Only thing I'm not happy about is that I don't live in this beautiful place. Till next time

A lovely cosy cottage in the centre of Castleton.

Could really do with a blind in the bathroom, or though it wasn't overlooked, when sat in the court yard you could see in to the bathroom, also not enough dinner knifes, we kept having to wash them as there was only 4 but plenty folks & spoons.

Lovely village good pubs quiet during the week busy at weekend's

The cottage looked nice from the pictures, but the reality was it was basic and tired.

It required a good deep clean and attention to those little things that make a difference. Parking was a nightmare as there is no space outside the cottage. Only the public car parks were available, but being so busy it was a lottery when you found a space. The cottage priced at just under £580 for the week was priced just about right for what the cottage offers. We would not be going back to this cottage.

We had a wonderful time staying at the cottage .

Centrally located pubs cafes ,shops ,walks caves all on our doorstep. The cottage had everything we needed .Even a bottle of fizz chilling in the fridge for our arrival . The quality of furnishings are tasteful and good quality .If we ever come back to the area we would stay at Mill Leat again

Mill Leat was cosy, comfortable and very well equipped. We arrived early, after a long journey, on a very wet day, we received a message from Justine, the owner, to tell us that the cottage was ready and we could access it early - very welcome news! The parking permit was great and could be used in other Peak District car parks. Castleton is a pretty village and lots of walking routes start here. Definitely a location and cottage for a return visit.

Had everything we needed as a family of four. Can only echo what others have said, we’ll definitely look to stay again.

Our family of 4 had a really good time in Castleton.

Staying at Mill Leat was very convenient for walks, shops, bars and restaurants. We endured a lot of rain during our stay so a good supply of towels and wood for the burner were much appreciated.

This is a great little cottage with a stream at the back of the yard, pretty central to an attractive part of castleton with nice cafe next door and everywhere in the village close by.

Well located for the castle and caves. Light the effective wood burning stove and snuggle down for the evening. Looking forward to our next visit!

The cottage was not very clean there was toe nails in the bathroom and the floors were dirty and sticky.

Very comfortable and quiet cottage in the heart of the village , nice comfortable bed ,had all the facilities to enable you to cook a meal that’s if your not tempted by the lovely eateries , castleton was very busy over the bank holiday in the daytime but quiet at night , parking pass was helpful ,car parks only over the road .

managed to park outside the night before to load the bags , we did have one problem which after text and phone call from the owner it was sorted straight away .thanks for the bottle of chilled Prosecco

The cottage is lovely and location is excellent.

We were really surprised that given the current situation that the cottage wasn’t very clean. Whilst the bathroom was very clean and linen was changed there were crisps left under the dirty cushions on the sofa and under beds and sofa very dirty. There were old socks left under the bed. Friends who have holidayed in cottages recently have seen enhanced cleaning so I had expected a thorough job. Otherwise everything was as we would expect.

The cottage was a perfect place to stay to explore the area which we sure did !

The price was reasonable as we had additional car parking costs across the road for 2 additional cars ( permit provided for one car which was great ) The cottage would be more suited to adults and not children due to steep stairs right outside the bedroom doors with no landing but not a problem for us 3 ladies at all ! We had a lovely stay in a cosy cottage ... thank you

We had a lovely time in the cottage.

It was warm and welcoming, which was greatly appreciated as the weather was wet and windy all week. We were very thankful for the washing machine, tumble dryer and dog sink (which were all well used), and the log burner created a cosy atmosphere while Storm Dennis raged outside.

It's a great little cottage.

Mostly clean and well equipped. Very comfortable master bed. Missed on suite but size of cottage dictates it has to be downstairs. We got away with unloading and loading with no rain,so lavk of car parking didn't hinder. I'd give it overall 8/10. Minor gripes mostly clean but filthy extractor fan in bathroom, which I cleaned in 2 mins, but rest of bathroom was spotlessly clean. Same with living room but cobwebs on ceiling in otherwise clean room. Cushions covered in dog hairs . Enjoyed our stay

Lovely comfortable cottage situated in the centre of Castleton.

Perfect for doggies - small back garden and the entrance is via 2 gates so very safe. The owner went that extra mile with the detail. There was a beautiful Christmas tree, decorations, gifts and a very welcome bottle of prosecco. The doggies really enjoyed their treats too. Thank you for making us feel so welcome and we look forward to returning next Christmas.

Castleton is a lovely village anytime of year but magical at christmas time.

Mill Leat was a lovely, clean, comfortable & cosy cottage right in the heart of Castleton. Would not hesitate to return.

Mill Leat is a lovely cottage however it wasn’t very clean!

The shower tray didn’t look like it had been cleaned. There was also an empty bottle of soap left in the bathroom. The bin was left with no bin liner and inside the bin was dirty with remnants of food. Reading other people’s views in the comments book it seems we could have been a one off as they were all good apart from noting that the sliding door to the twin room still appeared not to be fixed after comments from 4 months ago. We were kindly left a bottle of bubbly but no milk even though this is stated in the welcome pack. Again maybe this was just a bad week for the ‘housekeeper’ but it wasn’t a great first impression!

The cottage was beautiful, very well equipped and homely.

Lovely cottage in a beautiful village, great location for walks, exploring the Peak District, pubs, shops, & cafes.

The lack of a designated parking space was a bit of a nuisance, ( though a car park permit is provided). A word of caution for drivers using the village car park - be certain to park correctly. On weekends or Bank Holidays, either leave the car there or only return after 6pm! I parked for 10 minutes to take the dogs out of the car on a hot day, returned to a parking charge of £35. Didn't spoil the holiday, had a fantastic week away in glorious weather. Would definitely recommend this cottage & would return in the future

Mill Leat is a lovely cottage in a beautiful village.

It is very comfortable and equipped with everything that visitors would need. The facilities in the village are excellent and all of the pubs serve food of outstanding quality at reasonable prices. If you have come to Derbyshire to walk there is no need to use the car at all as so many wonderful walks can be had starting at the village. I would strongly recommend Mill Leat for anyone wanting a relaxing stay in the Peak District.

Castleton is a lovely little village, and this cottage is right in the heart of it.

However, can be awkward to load/unload vehicle as small space due to residents parking. Bedding in main bedroom unsuitable for summer. Mattress protector was stained and obviously not changed between guests. Both wheelie bins were full to bursting, with extra rubbish bags piled at side. No info on recycling waste, or bin collection?

Lovely cottage in central location and near to 5 pubs and local shops.

Good walking base to spectacular countryside. Free parking permit a bonus. Dog friendly and secure back courtyard.

The cottage was clean, very comfortable and very well stocked.

The weather was excellent and we also enjoyed the enclosed garden which was so safe for our dog too! The location is fantastic. A DVD and CD player would have been handy.

Lovely cottage in a great location, close to a number of pubs, cafes and shops.

Well equipped with a nice welcome gift of Prosecco and Milk on arrival. Small shared parking area and passes provided not needed by us as we came on the train, but handy for those with cars. Good, safe, enclosed garden, includes a dog bath complete with shampoo which we found useful as our 2 dogs like to roll in sheep poo! Only downside for us was the bed. I have osteoarthritis in my lower spine and need a firm bed, unfortunately this one is quite soft and after a week I have returned home with a lot of backache/agony. This is clearly a personal thing and others may prefer the softer bed. Visitor Centre just across the road staff there very helpful. Lots of good walks from Castleton suitable for all abilities.

Amazing cottage cosy clean and well equipped in a central location.

Better than I expected it to be . Castleton is gorgeous loved it so much I booked again for another weekend away next year.

We had a fantastic 3 night stay at mill leat in Castleton.

The cottage was lovely and cosy with everything we needed. Lovely comfy beds and spotless. So very kind leaving us with milk and prosecco. It is close to all the amenities. We had lovely walks and nice meals at the local pubs. We loved it so much we have booked to go again in November. Thanks again

A very cosy beautifully decorated warm cottage.

Excellent location in Castleton. All facilities available. Had a brilliant Christmas and cottage was decorated accordingly. Would definitely go back and highly recommend.

This cottage is in a excellent position, close to all amenities such as bars, shops, cafes etc.

Castleton is very pretty, great for walks or just chilling. Very comfy pretty cottage. Enjoyed our stay very much. Will be back very soon.

Small cottage in a tucked away position, just behind the cafe, furnished to a good standard with quality accessories.

Could have been a nice place to stay but, for us, it was very difficult. The cafe was undergoing refurbishment and a skip and van was in front of property this meant that people were squeezing past our window to get past which was really stressing our dog. There was noise from around 8am onwards from this. Then the cottage next to us also started doing some sort of work at a similar time - this was so loud that you would have thought it was upstairs in our cottage. Next, we had pest control at the door telling us the people next door had rats in their house and could we flush the toilet, run the taps etc, etc. Weather was also bad so couldn’t really get out with our dog to get away from the cottage. I realise that these things are beyond the owners control and in other circumstances could have had a nice holiday but sadly we just couldn’t stand it any longer and packed up and went home. Feel like we have just wasted a lot of money! Very disappointed.

Cottage was absolutely lovely, perfect for our long weekend, well stocked kitchen, great location and really friendly/helpful owner when we had a couple of questions.

Thoroughly recommended.
