"Lovely cottage, nicely decorated and very clean, small but plenty of room for 2 people."

Although parking was on the road we had no trouble parking in the layby just past the cottage. The road is very busy which meant the bedroom window couldn't be left open at night but we solved this by opening the bathroom window and leaving the doors to the bedroom and bathroom open. We enjoyed our stay at Bear Cottage.

"Very impressed with the cleanliness of the property, great bathroom, good location."

Ceramic hob was unusable, could not speak to anyone about this until after the weekend, need to have a contact number for the owner, very frustrating. Would be beneficial to have blackout curtains in the bedroom, window covering of some kind in the bathroom, felt exposed especially with the light on at night. A fan would of been so useful the bedroom at night was unbearable with the heat. The traffic noise was terrible, a double glazed door would help with this. No problem with parking.

Thank you for your review and offering your feedback. With reference to the hob, this was bought to our attention and the next morning, we took a portable induction hob over to you and purchased a new hob, which was fitted the morning you left the cottage, so a new hob is now in place. The crack in the hob was only a hairline crack which you could barely feel to touch and has been used absolutely fine by all of our guests since October 2024, when we opened Bear Cottage to the public. The blind in the bedroom is a blackout blind and regarding the heat, we have no control over the weather and many upstairs rooms in all houses felt warm over the last few weeks, whilst there has been a heatwave in the UK of 30 degree temperatures. Apologies that it felt too hot for you. Again, thank you for your feedback. Best wishes, Emma & Stuart Property Owner

"Lovely little cottage but situated on the very busy A6."

And I don't think Cromford could be called a village? It probably was a very quaint village 50/60 years ago...just too much traffic! Overall I wasn't that impressed with the places we visited.

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at Bear Cottage. We’re sorry you weren’t impressed with the places you visited. We have so many wonderful sights to see, such as Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Bakewell, Black Rocks, Carsington Waters, Matlock Bath and many many more, that it’s a shame you didn’t find somewhere that you found impressive. Cromford is also on the edge of the Peak District, where natural beauty is in abundance, with many walks and towns/villages to visit. Cromford is absolutely a village. It has local pubs, cafes, shops, a famous bookshop, chip shops and the beautiful Cromford Mills and Canal which are steeped in history and Bear cottage isn’t on the A6. "This was a small but well proportioned cottage (if that makes sense) well decorated, well maintained it was spot on for my wife and I."

With 30 deg heat expected we decided not to take our retriever (we'd have been stuck inside during the day which would have made the cottage feel cramped). People commented on traffic as it's on the main road, yes fair bit at rush hour but with the double glazing it wasn't really a bother. Nice, to have biscuits, crisps, G&T and milk for when we arrived (thank you). Limited parking outside but easy to park just in the side street by the church across the road.

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at Bear Cottage. We’re pleased you found the cottage to be well maintained and nicely decorated and it’s a shame the weather was so hot for your stay, meaning your dog couldn’t join you. We’d love to welcome you and your retriever in the future. All the best, Emma & Stuart Property Owner

"We had a lovely stay at bear cottage."

I have 2 points I would like to raise first, though they would absolutely not affect me visiting again! Firstly, the bin situation isn’t great, particularly if you have a stay 3+ nights. No food waste/recycling, so it piles up quite quickly. Secondly, the top shelf in the oven burns food very quickly so avoid it! HOWEVER, the cottage is absolutely lovely. The bed is comfortable, the cottage was spotless on arrival, very clear instructions on checking in, brilliant amenities, great location, and incredibly dog friendly. We ordered in 1 night from Anila (a local Indian) which was excellent, though I’d recommend ordering from them directly as opposed to Uber. We also visited the Greyhound pub down the road which was lovely. During our stay, we visited Thor’s Cave, Mam Tor/Back Tor, Lud’s church, Three Shires Head and The Stepping Stones. All were within an easy 40 minute drive, and absolutely wonderful. Thank you to the hosts for the perfect place to stay in this beautiful part of the country. We would love to visit again.

Thank you so much for leaving a 5 star review for your stay at Bear Cottage. We’re so pleased that you enjoyed your time and found the cottage to be comfortable. It sounds like you visited some lovely local places. Just on your point about the refuse collection, it works differently on The Hill in Cromford as it would be dangerous for wheely bins/recycling bins to be left outside. Regular refuse collections are made as normal and there is a black dustbin in the garden for any rubbish, along with replacement bin bags in the cupboard under the sink. I hope this helps. We’d love to welcome you back in the future and thank you again for such a great review. All the best, Emma & Stuart Property Owner

"We loved our week in Cromford."

Bustling little village with hotel, pub, small independent shops & 2 takeaways offering a good variety of food. Also Very handy for visiting other places around & about. Bakewell, Buxton, Matlock & Matlock Bath. Nice walks with our 2 dogs. Interesting history too about Richard Arkwright who built Cromford Mill in late 1700’s. Also visited mill over holiday wknd. Lots going on. Bear Cottage was clean, cosy, comfy & well equipped. Thankyou for treats. Very welcome. Only downside for us was very busy noisy road but there’s nothing you can do about that other than putting in secondary glazing to help noise levels which you have done.It wouldn’t stop us coming back as we love the Peak District. Thankyou Emma, Stuart & Family & Teddy Bear.

Thank you so much for leaving a 5 star review for your stay at Bear Cottage. We’re so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with your 2 doggies. It sounds like you got out and about to some of the lovely places nearby and you’re right, there are so many nice walks to be had and areas to visit. We’d love to welcome you back in the future. "Lovely Cottage ,simple but well chosen decor, very welcoming."

The goodies were very much appreciated and Sparky liked his too. Ideally situated to visit surrounding peak district towns and villages Crompton itself is like stepping back in time. The weather was a bit dull and cold, which we did not mind as it was February, but the cottage was warm and comfortable. It would be nice to come back in the warmer month and enjoy sitting in the back patio, enjoying the views.

Thank you so much for leaving a 5 star review! We’re so pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Bear Cottage and are also super happy to hear that Sparky did too! We’d love to welcome you back in the future. Thanks again, Emma & Stuart Property Owner

"Had a great time, property was extremely clean and decorated nicely throughout."

The area was great for exploring and the walks along the canal were fantastic. Had a couple of meals in the Boat Inn and the big draw was the stunning fire as the weather was freezing all week. The only couple of niggles we had was that there was a draught around the kitchen door which made it extremely cold and would benefit from a seal/draught excluder. Secondly the noise from the exceptionally busy road with massive lorries up and down all day. Apart from that we had a lovely time.

Thank you very much for your review. We’re pleased you enjoyed your stay at Bear Cottage and that you liked the area and had a few good meals at The Boat Inn. We’re really sorry to hear that you found the kitchen door draughty in the cold weather. Thank you for bringing it to our attention. Best wishes Emma & Stuart Property Owner

"Only problem is we couldn't get hold of the owner to report the heating not on."

Otherwise, it was a lovely clean cozy little house. Ideal for the 2 of us and the dog. In and ideal spot for visiting places. Also, local bus takes away meals out at the nearby pubs. and dogs welcome in the pubs. Would recommend to family and friends would also return again

Thank you so much for your 5 star review Margaret and I’m really sorry to hear that you couldn’t contact us. The heating is set to come on to keep the cottage at a comfortable temperature and then it goes off once that temperature is reached. Hopefully, it soon got cosy for you as it’s usually nice and toasty. We’re really pleased you enjoyed your stay and would recommend to friends and family. Thats great to hear!
