The village of Thurlstone, just two miles away, provides some small village shops, a nice pub and has the Trans-Pennine Trail right on its doorstep, offering excellent walking and cycling with spectacular views.

The nearby reservoirs of Langsett, Broomhead and Derwent, the latter being the site where the famous Dambusters raid was practised, are also well worth a visit.

The area provides excellent opportunities for a variety of activities such as golf, clay pigeon shooting and pony trekking.

For culture lovers there is plenty of choice to satisfy all tastes including Cannon Hall Museum Park and Gardens, Wentworth Castle, Chatsworth House, the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and the National Coal Mining Museum for England, all of which are easily accessible.

The beautiful Peak District National Park is tantalisingly close and a little further afield is the Yorkshire Dales National Park, so you really are spoilt for choice!
