  • "Great place to stay, great location as easy to travel to many local places of interest."

The property was absolutely amazing, so well equipped and very clean. Could not find anything negative to say! Would recommend and stay again. Thank you!

  • "Excellent cottage for the 12 of us."

Great that it had such a surfeit of cutlery, crockery, pans etc. Two fridges greatly appreciated. Beds comfortable, loads of space in the sitting area, parking for our 4 cars. Excellent all round. We asked for a cot - it might be good to be prompted that we needed to bring our own cot mattress (logical, but we forgot!)

  • "The house was even bigger than we thought it would be, perfect for our family of 6 adults and 4 children."

Well equipped and beautifully clean and there was a welcome pack of tea, biscuits, milk, and washing up products waiting for us! Great location too. We had a fabulous week. Thanks

  • "Second time we've been here, great place for families."

Owners are very friendly. There's also a great book shop down the road with an even better cake shop.

  • "The cottage was perfect for a larger family get together."

We loved the wide and open social space. The large couches were a real hit. It’s rare that a family of 10 can sprawl out in such comfort. The amount of bathrooms and en suite bathrooms was also well thought out. The cottage was well equipped and very well situated to explore the majority of the Peak District. Castleton and Bakewell being around 30 minutes away. Cowdale is also peaceful and beautiful. We would return in a heartbeat. This was a real find.

The owner Andy was very helpful when we had a couple of minor issues that needed to be fixed. The location is very central to a lot of the attractions in the Peak District. I would definitely recommend the property!

  • "A very spacious barn."

We love our stay and the hosts were very friendly and gave us advice on local day trips and places to eat. Well equipped kitchen, lovely sized bedrooms and a huge main lounge with an additional snug for our children. Description says,5 bathrooms but there were only 4 - lnot a problem for us but should be updated for accuracy.

About the location

Tideswell 7 miles; Bakewell 12 miles; Matlock 21 miles.

It was the constant 28 degrees centigrade of the bubbling blue waters of Buxton's eight thermal springs that originally attracted the Romans to the town. However it was during the 18th and 19th centuries, under the patronage of successive Dukes of Devonshire, that the Palladian splendour of the Buxton of today was designed and built - including the magnificent semi-circular Crescent, The Great Stable, Hall Bank, The Square, The Pavilion Gardens and The Opera House. Today visitors continue to enjoy these magnificent buildings and gardens, as well as the Opera House's full programme and annual festivals of music and arts. There is good walking close by with rugged peaks to the north and gentle hills and dales to the south and a number of pretty towns and villages are dotted throughout including Bakewell, Ashford-in-the-Water, Castleton and Edale. The stunning properties of Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are within easy driving distance and must be seen while visiting this area. A great base for exploring the Peak District.
