Beautiful cottage that was scrupulously clean Loved it Will be back

What a lovely stay.

The cottage had everything we needed. Two bedrooms each with its own en-suite bathroom, spacious lounge and kitchen. Clean and a nice welcome was left even though we never met our hosts. I know the area well having grown up there and the location is perfect for Matlock, Matlock Bath and the Peak District. Pretty sure we'll be coming back if you'll have us :-).

It was a fantastic little cottage in an ideal location, close to most attractions in Matlock.

The property was clean, well maintained, shops and amenities nearby. The welcome pack with a Bakewell tart and personalised card was a pleasant surprise ☺️ .The only suggestion for improvement is the upstairs hot shower had low power. Otherwise, we really loved the cottage and enjoyed our stay. Thank you, Yvonne and Claire

Lovely, well equipped property in a charming area.

Toad Cottage is an excellent size and love the two bathrooms so no queuing. Very well equipped kitchen with almost anything one would need and the oven and microwave both worked well. Nice little seating area too, though we didn't use it because the weather wasn't great. 2 minutes from a spar or a coop and parking was very easy in the dedicated space. Yvonne and Clare were very responsive and flexible before and during the stay and I'd very happily stay here again!

Enjoyed our stay, everything and more was in the property including a lovely arrival pack.

We would stay again. The cottage was clean and welcoming with a lovely welcome hamper and lots of useful information.

This is our third visit and we will return.

The high standards are exemplary and we noticed the new changes with the ground floor bathroom being completely transformed. Everything is left for you that you could possibly think of and more. So clean and everything is provided to a high standard and we feel very happy to return. We sat out the two of us with our little dog and enjoyed the bird song in the lovely weather. Whilst the main road is busy this does not impact on the quality of our sleep as I am a very light sleeper and the stone walls and top notch windows do their job. Thank you for providing a wonderful place to stay and return to and we loved the hamper of lovely foods and Timmy’s favourite treats.

Very pretty cottage, in a good location for walking in the Peak District.

I was able to leave my car at the cottage and make use of public transport from the nearby bus stop. The cottage was clean and comfortable with all necessary equipment for a pleasant stay. The welcome hamper was a thoughtful addition, especially the milk in the fridge and my dog appreciated the treats! The layout is quirky but adds to the charm, there are a number of steps in the property that may be difficult for small children or those with mobility issues, I had no problems while staying there and would definitely return as it was perfect for a solo traveller with a dog

A wonderful cottage with easy access to the local countryside for walks.

Very spacious and well equipped. I appreciated the off street parking and the pub close by. Thank you for the welcome basket and the attention to detail. We hope to return in the near future. Highly recommended.

We looked forward to our second stay and everything was clean and just like before home from home.

The only negative thing was that there was only one bath towel and one hand towel each left for us so we had to put the washer and dryer on Friday after breakfast. The other negative thing was that there was only one loo roll in the ground floor toilet so we had to go and buy a spare one, my husband uses a separate toilet to Me so we had no issues before or we would have taken extra towels and loo rolls.

Lovely quaint old cottage with thick walls and good quality sash windows.

We had a great stay and the cottage was well positioned off the road so not too munch road noise. The electric shower in the upstairs en suite was a bit of a disappointment as it wasn’t very powerful at all and the mattress on the bed was a bit too springy for my liking. Maybe a thicker mattress would be more comfortable. The upstairs lounge was quite large and airy with lots of space to sit in comfort. The kitchen was on the small side and it would be difficult to sit 4 people round the table but ok for us two. Unlike a lot of the properties we have stayed in, the cottage provided a large amount of glasses, crockery, knives and forks etc which saved us having to wash up all the time. We also appreciated that soap and washing products were also provided although we were disappointed that there was no kitchen roll . Would definitely recommend this property though.

The owners had thought of everything including a lovely welcome pack. Perfect location to the National Park and local amenities. We will come again.

Toad Cottage is deceptively bright and spacious, loads of space for a family of two adults and two teenagers.

There’s a parking space in a small courtyard (Blacksmith’s Yard) which is access for a few restored terraced houses and a few luxury new builds. All cleaning materials ( soap, dishwasher and washing tabs etc. ) were supplied. There’s a radio as well as a tv/dvd and good internet. The Chesterfield Road, B5057, can be busy with traffic including motorbikes, but mostly at rush hour, and much less so than the A6. Short walk to pubs, cafe (Joni) restaurant ( Barrington’s) shops ( Spar, Co-Op). Walks to e.g. Ladygrove from the house. Good base to explore Matlock, Crich Tramway, Peak Rail, Great British Car Story, Chatsworth, and Haddon Hall. Highly recommended.

Lovely basket of goodies when we arrived was a lovely touch, well equipped, clean property, main mattress was a little worn but comfy enough, All in all a lovely base for exploring the local area, felt very homely, thanks for a lovely stay.

Great location. As a runner there is access to many excellent routes being so close to the White Peak Loop with flat paths ideal for getting the miles in. Quiet setting. Facilities excellent. Thoughtful welcome pack. Beds super comfy. Couldn’t get the tv to switch to BBC1 but apart from that thank you very much.

We needed a bolt hole break with our dog and we did check the reviews and really looked forward to staying there.

To say it is dog friendly up to two dogs, Toad Cottage is immaculately clean, pale quality carpets, all furnishing is what we would have at home and the lovely hamper including our dogs favourite bag of treats. So lovely and the little patio that is enclosed was big enough. So close to all the pleasures of Chatsworth, Bakewell, Matlock bath, a few mins by car. Lovely local walks and the coop a few minutes walk is always well stocked. There is a busy road at the back but not heard when we were in the lounge and bedroom, lovely views from the lounge looking out to wonderful views and lots of butterflies.

My mum and I stayed here for 3 nights and had a lovely time.

The cottage is well situated, with local shops and places to eat nearby. The cottage itself was clean, homely, well decorated and cosy! The welcome gifts were such a lovely thought and much appreciated. Thank you very much! Would definitely stay here again!

The location and views are superior to the photographs.

There’s a lovely outdoor seating area, on a quiet cull de sac, with hills around, and useful facilities like shops and pubs a short walk away. Some lovely walks directly from the cottage.

Absolutely spot on as description area is beautiful lots of walks and things to do local pub is quaint and a dog called Roxy is a hit would highly recommend

Really enjoyed being in the cottage and a great location for what we were doing ( funeral principally but also good for dog walking). Small points : the double bed was a bit soft and springy for me, the shower pressure was a bit low ( they did say in their notes)and I think it would be a good touch to provide a tea towel ( but I had one). I would certainly stay in Toad Cottage again, if they would have me!

All toiletries catered for and everything extremely clean, a real home from home. The welcome basket was perfect also right down to the doggie chews which my two little chihuahuas loved. We will be back again when visiting family who live only two miles down the road so a perfect location for us xx

The cottage was amazing!

We had an absolutely wonderful week away and already talking about returning again. It was spotlessly clean and lovely and warm, the split level layout worked perfectly to provide some privacy and the living room was well sized to host everyone for a lovely evening watching a film. The cottage was very well equipped and had things I wouldn’t have even thought of (like hot water bottles) and the welcome pack was very much appreciated! Only small thing to note was that the main bed was comfy but not as comfy as the twin beds and I think would benefit from a mattress topper! But it was by no means uncomfortable and we slept well most nights.

An absolute gem of a property.

Quirky, comfortable and spacious. A wonderful location, lovely neighbours and beautiful views. A couple of niggles which I would rather talk to the owners about, than publish here. Nothing serious just observations from long experience.

An excellent cottage.

The pictures do not do it justice at all. It is equipped with everything you need for an enjoyable stay. We used the walking books, thank you. The welcome box was a lovely welcome. Toad Cottage was slightly better than I thought it was going to be.

We immediately got the feeling that a lot of thought had been given to guests' comfort. Very good location.

A lovely little cottage and the perfect spot for exploring the peak district.

The kitchen is well stocked with every utensil and gadget you could need - plus a lovely little welcome hamper in arrival. The washing machine and tumble dryer were an excellent addition when holidaying with small kiddos. The beds were comfortable, the cottage clean and very warm despite the drizzly October weather. The smart TV, puzzles and games left for us were put to good use in the evenings. Would definitely recommend Toad Cottage. We didn't want to leave.

Lovely quirky cottage, warm and clean.

Good, modern facilities, spacious. Dining table for four, which some may find a bit cramped, in the kitchen. Good selection of DVDs, puzzles and books. Lounge and main bedroom (en-suite) on first floor, twin bedroom, shower/toilet and kitchen on the ground floor. Good location for Matlock/Matlock Bath/Bakewell/Buxton/Ashbourne Next to a road, which had a reasonable amount of traffic coming past, but because of the thickness of the walls, it wasn’t hugely noticeable.

Like home from home. Lovely welcome pack even snacks for our dog. Great location for Matlock and Bakewell. We did the Bakewell loop, approx 3.25 miles dog walk around Bakewell. Would definitely recommend this walk. Had a lovely Sunday lunch at the Grouse Inn and evening meal at the Grouse & Claret. Would definitely recommend a visit. Thanks for making our holiday memorable. The 3rd stay at Toad Cottage.

One of the best in the area which made it an ideal place for family to meet up. Spacious cottage. Very clean. Plenty of towels and toiletries. Comfy beds. Nice little yard for a sunny morning coffee. Cottage next to a busy noisy road but soon get used to the traffic going by. Decent off road parking space to fit two small cars. TV remotes were a bit a muddle for my 80 year old mother to use on a rainy day. One for TV and one for Free view which was very slow to upload. Radiators in the living room could do with bleeding as we had a cold snaps for a couple of damp days as my mother likes to keep warm. There is an electric heater that soon makes it very hot though. Just a couple of things that need seeing to. But overall a super cottage. With a little welcome hamper. Bread, milk and shortbread. Definitely booking again. Michael. Sheila. Marian. Very convenient location near shops, pubs and plenty of safe walks to take the dog. Beautiful area with stunning views. Had a lovely welcome hamper. Very enjoyable week thank you .

A beautiful cottage set in the heart of Two Dales with amenities all in walking distance.

Brilliantly located for Matlock, Bakewell and Chatsworth. Fabulously clean and tidy with all creature comforts you require. We didn’t cook in our short stay but kitchen was very well equipped to do so. Lovely treat box left for us and our pooch with milk in the fridge! Thanks so much. Will definitely return.

We had a great time at Toad Cottage it was perfect for us, really quaint and attractive.

Footpaths nearby which lead to a tumbling stream, and a beautiful park down the road. Our dog appreciated the treats left for him, also treats for us! Bread and milk were kindly there on our arrival. Loved it would book again when we come to the Peak District .

Good location.

We loved this little cottage which was even better than we expected.

It was surprisingly spacious and very clean and well equipped. The bed was very comfortable and the gorgeous weather meant we were able to take advantage of the little seated area outside. It would have been nice to have an empty cupboard in the kitchen to store our groceries instead of on the worktop space. Not so much a problem for our 3 night stay but if we had booked to stay a week it would have been more cluttered. We would definitely recommend Toad Cottage to others

Really enjoyed our stay, everything you needed was there. Loved the games, puzzles etc. The dog jumped straight over the wall outside and went to visit the neighbours…. so we had to keep her tied up! Would definitely return and recommend.

Lovely property and area convenient for days out to spectacular scenery.

We spent 28 nights here after selling our house and being unable to rent one.

Booked for 2 weeks then added another two weeks. Absolutely fabulous, like a home from home! Absolutely everything you needed, super clean, comfy. The pictures don’t do it justice. We would 100% stay here again. Stunning cottage, beautiful area, lovely owners even asked if they would like to drop off more bedding and towels. Lovely welcome pack and even snacks for the dog! Didn’t want to leave. Loved it!!!

We have stayed at Toad Cottage twice with our two dogs and have had a brilliant holiday both times.

It’s a great location and the house had everything we needed. It’s very cosy and we really enjoyed the board games and puzzles on offer. We have visited Chatsworth House, Bakewell, Matlock Bath, Eyam, Perevil Castle and the caves in Castleton. There are plenty of dog friendly pubs and restaurants nearby, such as The Gate Inn, Grouse & Claret and The Rising Sun Middleton. We are looking forward to another holiday at Toad Cottage.

We very much appreciated the welcome pack, was a lovely surprise when we first arrived.

Found the facilities adequate, sufficient cutlery & crockery. Lounge spacious and comfortable. Plentity of space to move around the accommodation. Please could have done with another large shower towel. (only one was supplied) The downstairs shower needs a good clean and some mold cleaned off the tiles around the bottom - but overal very pleased with our stay and would recommend.

Nice touch of welcome pack including dog treats. Walk from the cottage Easy to reach Matlock and Bakewell as well as the lovely Linacre reservoir which has a great walk round followed by good food at the Peacock at Cutthorpe. Pub in Two Dales does not serve food but good for drinks in the evening

Electric shower in en-suite bathroom had no electrical power.This fault seems to have been outstanding for a year given recent reviews. More information regarding appliances and recycling would have been useful.

Good size cottage, plenty of space for us 4 adults and a puppy, well equipped kitchen with everything you need for cooking, drinking etc, perfect location to explore, thanks for making us feel very welcome.

Three university friends having a reunion in the Peak District had a lovely stay at Toad Cottage.

There was enough room for us and two dogs, nicely spaced across this unusual little cottage. A lovely little walk just outside the door provided doggy "bedtime" ablutions. Co-op and Canton Cuisine provided human reparations. We visited Bakewell, the Monsal Trail, the Heights of Abraham, the village of Eyam and its Tudor Hall and Arkwright's Mill at Cromford. Could have stayed another week and still nor have seen everything this little corner of the Peaks had to offer.

So much to see and do.

Bakewell is such a lovely town. Chatsworth house is amazing. We had a great stay it was very comfortable everything was fab but both showers can’t run at the same time as the pressure can’t cope but that was the only snag! It’s a gem local pub was great to.

A very enjoyable few days in Toad Cottage.

We would definitely consider re-booking. Great to have the two bathrooms with two teenagers! The whole cottage was well equipped throughout and lovely touch with the welcome basket including dog treats. Very impressed!

Brilliant cottage.

Great welcome pack. Great location. Great walks from your door step. If any faults cannot use both showers at same time. Upstairs bathroom could do with updating. But had a great stay. And will definitely be back.

Nice cottage, very clean and comfortable.

We even saw a toad trying to get in the front door! Plenty of areas to go for walks both short and long. A shame that the closest pub only does food on a Thursday (fresh pizza), but hotel on the A6 was an easy walk and had a good menu.

Both bedrooms had their own bathrooms. Kitchen and sitting room were great. Excellent value for money

Lovely cottage clean and comfortable

Fabulous stay at Toad Cottage.

Great location and cottage was beautiful. Only the smallest of criticism is that the front door key was very difficult to remove from the lock. When we first got there I had visions of not being able to leave the cottage because the key wouldn’t budge. It was very fiddly but we eventually conquered it.

It would have been nice to have a shelf in the downstairs bathroom for toiletries.

Putting them on the shelf by the toilet seemed a bit unhygienic.

We had a lovely stay in this fab quiet cottage.

The welcome pack was greatly appreciated. The beds were comfy and we felt relaxed in the upstairs lounge. Great location for dog walking. Loved Bakewell town. Just wish the local pub did better food - but there are other pubs within 15 minutes walk. Locals were all lovely and welcoming. We will be back soon I'm sure.

Absolutely immaculate !

Really spacious. Very well equipped and loved the Bakewell tart in the welcome pack . Even milk for us in the fridge . Very thoughtful and hope to visit again . Slept incredibly well as so peaceful .

Toad Cottage was absolutely lovely.

We needn't have bothered bringing half the things we did - just about everything we needed was already there, and the hamper was very welcome!

We really enjoyed our holiday.

The property was lovely and had everything we needed. It was in a stunning area and so friendly.

The location was excellent but I don’t feel it is suitable for dogs, due to the low wall which my dogs could jump over.

There was nowhere the dogs could go to the toilet as they only go on grass and the only bit of grass was on the road! The upstairs shower had no power and the washing machine was very smelly. Shame really as the layout was great and kitchen had everything you needed.

Loved Toad Cottage.

Warm, comfortable and everything I needed. Maybe a better quilt, I was a bit cold on a few nights. Take a throw. Lovely views, perfect location for walking and leaving the car parked up but also central for sightseeing. Great for dogs too. Go and enjoy

The cottage was excellent, we arrived to a lovely selection of welcome goodies, Really can’t think of any negatives with the cottage.

I would say more suitable for two couples or a couple with older children as the ground floor bedroom is well away from main bedroom if someone has young children. Would definitely consider going back loads of walks and several good pubs well within walking distances.

We had a lovely week in this cottage and the local area, welcomed with a surprise bundle for our first day, Oscar loved his doggy treats as well.

The cottage was easy to find and really well maintained, we felt right at home. Lots to do in the local area both walking from the cottage or a small drive away, even though it was January so some things were not open we found plenty to do with our dog. There is a great coop within walking distance as well as a post office and cafe's. Matlock and Matlock bath are on the door step with lots to walk round and see, and we also adventured up to Buxton, Solomans Peak and the main town area where we lost a whole day exploring. Will be looking to book again, not too far from home but lots to explore

We stayed at the end of November 2021.

The cottage exceeded our expectations. We were expecting it to be good, but in fact we were delighted, my wife especially. It was bigger than we expected for a cottage (they can be quite small) and it was very well furnished. There was plenty of crockery and cutlery and there were small touches all over. There was a small basket of essentials (bread, milk, cake) on arrival. TV was good quality and was Freesat. We had a very enjoyable and relaxing week. We would have no hesitation in returning. I would recommend .

Lovely cottage, in a brilliant location.

Owner had thought of everything and even packaged up all towels and shared items so you know they are clean and safe to use. Lots of stairs/steps but no issues for us. Would definitely recommend.

The cottage was brilliantly equipped and close to many places went to visit (Bakewell, Heights of Abraham, the 9 ladies, Buxton etc) .

Very spacious and sound didn't seem to travel from one room to another. There was enough parking and lovely outside space. The closed patio was a wonderful safe area for our dog, no stress involved at all for her needs. Thank you for a relaxing time away, as the place was set up beautifully we could all enjoy time together. I fully recommend this cottage!

Nice quiet location but close to all the major tourist spots of the Peak District.

Toad Cottage was a lovely place.

Superb location and great accomodation. A bit light on cooking dishes and no large frying pan but that always seems to be the case, just different things for different people. The cottage was left with lots of nice little extras which just made it feel like home as soon as we arrived. Definitely would recommend , very happy.

It wasn’t made clear on the parking as two couples went with two car’s we actually parked one car at the back of the property next to the road not really knowing if it belonged to the property as the main road was fairly narrow

Owners have thought of the little things that make a difference (well equipped kitchen, plenty of coat hangers and a welcome basket of goodies). Would benefit from a Kingsize bed in the master bedroom and a BBQ.

Beautiful cottage.

Really appreciated the welcome package and dog treats for our four-legged friend. Loved the squeeze stile leading straight into a footpath at the end of the Yard so we could walk the dog. Easy to reach Matlock and a shop and pub within walking distance. Would love to return but might need a lesson on the bin system!
