"The accommodation was well situated with lovely walks available from the doorstep."
We benefitted from the ratio of bathrooms to guests and the constant supply of hot water. The downside was the fact we had 4 cars as we’d travelled from different locations and the security gate code didn’t work at any point through our stay. This meant we were all subject to relatively long waits trying to gain access and on several occasions, no one was attending the intercom so we had to call other property owners to let us in. The directions to the property need better explanation as we all failed to get to the location on first attempt. Finally, whilst the bedding covers were clean, the pillows and mattresses were heavily stained and there were no protectors on them. This alone would mean I would rebook this accommodation.

"The good: the property is large enough for the number of people and pets we had, and each bedroom has its own bathroom, which was absolutely brilliant."
Lovely position for walking, very quiet and comfortable. The wood burning stove was a delight, and the fact that wood is provided was a lovely touch. The bad: cleanliness is an issue. Two of the four toilets needed to be flushed before use, which isn't good. Cutlery in the drawer was dirty, as was the drawer itself, and many bits of glassware and crockery were as well. The oven was dirty, and one of the fridges has flies in it, as well as what looked like mould in the water dispenser lid. The kitchen is not well enough equipped for the number of people the chalet can accommodate, and there's nothing in the way of any kind of welcome pack, not even salt and pepper, although there were some dishwasher tabs and stuff for washing up. The tea towels were about as absorbent as marble, and also dirty, and there is no provision for hand protection like oven gloves. There was also no vacuum cleaner, which would have been nice as we had pets with us, and we would have liked to clean up a little better before we left. In general the property feels tired and in need of a little tlc. Coat hooks in one of the bedrooms were almost pulled right out of the wall, there's mould in at least one of the bathrooms, and some of the walls are flaking. For us the property was perfect in terms of space, but we won't be back unless the cleaning issue is resolved. It's almost like the property was "cleaned" by the last guests, and then not checked over in any way before we arrived.

"The location of the property is nice with a river running past though entrance through the private road and instruction for the gate need to be updated as it took us a while to find the entrance."
Upon entering the property I walked straight into a spider web that had formed in the door way which wasn’t ideal and general cleanliness was an issue. I believe the cottage could do with a refurb and maybe switch to leather sofas and flooring rather than carpet especially in the living room with the log burner as the smell of smoke clung to every fabric surface. Fencing off the garden would also greatly improve the experience as it is lovely to sit outside however you are left exposed to anyone walking on the path. The bathrooms were all in good condition however the steam shower downstairs would be amazing if the water pressure was better as the more jets you turn on the worse the pressure gets so to have an adequate shower you can only turn on one of the jets at a time. The pictures on the website aren’t a true reflection of the property an

"We enjoyed our stay at Dovestone Cottage which is very spacious and overall very clean, a few cobwebs around ceilings and cigarette butts discarded around the kitchen door which did not give a great first impression."
The garden is not enclosed and so I would suggest only suitable for dogs with good recall or with owners happy to keep them on a lead outside. The kitchen is well equipped and would be enhanced by the addition of plastic chopping boards (I did not want to use the wooden for chopping chicken as it would not be hygienic - I did so on a plate). A washing machine would also be a benefit for families. We would definitely want to book here again and it was excellent value for money.

"Very short walk to a number of lovely trails."
Comfortable and easy accommodation with everything you need. Helpful reception team. Don’t follow the say nav - follow the instructions to find the gate entrance. Dog friendly as long as you have recall as no gate to property.

"Lovely location."
Great amenities. enjoyed our stay. only recommendation would be clear instruction on the gate to gain access.

Where you’ll be staying
GREENFIELD
Uppermill 1 mile; Oldham 7 miles; Huddersfield 15.5 miles.
Greenfield is one of seven villages nestling amongst the 18,000 acres of moorland hills, open fields and scenic valleys that comprise the Saddleworth area. These Pennine villages have a wool spinning and agricultural heritage dating back to the Industrial Revolution, but today Saddleworth has evolved into an attractive South Pennine and Peak District National Park area with breathtaking views and glorious stone-built buildings. Greenfield is a thriving little village with a good range of amenities, and well placed to explore the South Pennine region. Greenfield has Saddleworth’s largest park in Churchill Playing Fields, which includes a skateboard park and tennis courts. It also has the canal marina and Saddleworth’s train station, which is an extremely popular stopping off point on the ‘Real Ale Rail Trail’ and offers easy access into Manchester for a city visit. Live entertainment at local pubs includes folk, rock, jazz and classical guitar concerts, and the ‘Off the Rails’ comedy club.
Saddleworth is home to a wide range of festivals and community events, the most famous of which is the Whit Friday Band contest, which attracts the UK’s and Europe’s top brass bands and was the backdrop to the film ‘Brassed Off’. Another well loved film ‘Yanks’ was set in Saddleworth and is also commemorated by a major weekend festival.
Almost every weekend features a visitor attraction, be it a canal festival, vintage car rally, the Saddleworth Rushcart procession, real ale festival, morris dancing competition or the well regarded Farmer’s Market. Nearby attractions include Dovestones Reservoir for boating and walks, and the Castleshaw Valley with an interpretation trail for a Roman fort, the highest of a series built on the Roman military road from Chester to York.
This property has a Good Housekeeping Bond of £350.
