  • "A ideal cottage to explore the Manifold and Dovedale area of the White Peak, with lovely walks straight out of the door, great if you are a keen walker but if not, the cottage is well situated for many other attractions in Staffordshire and Derbyshire."

Anne was a great host, very welcoming and friendly, as were her lovely vocal (but not overly so) sheep Jim and Erica. The cottage is warm and comfortable, the bed particularly comfy. We could have done with another saucepan, as there was only two, but that's a minor point.

  • "Had the most wonderful relaxing break over New Year with my Greyhound."

The cottage was perfect for us, lovely edible gifts for us both, Christmas decorations in the cottage too! Views from the back door were great with Hattie and Maeve to bid 'good morning' to. We did little except revel in the tranquility of the cottage and village, were undisturbed by fireworks (may be back in November!) and enjoyed a good walk down into the Manifold valley. No phone and internet signal was blissful! Thank you so much Anne for the much needed break, Jenny and Dancer

  • "Everything I needed in a place to stay."

Clean, comfortable, cosy and the extra touch with welcome gifts for the doggos and me. A gloriously comfortable bed and resplendent views. No phone reception or Internet is exactly what I needed to switch off. The wingback chair was a fantastic place to sit and read. I noticed that other people had mentioned the shower. At six foot four, I generally struggle to get under the shower but I did have a thoroughly relaxing bath each morning then showered at mother's in the evening. A real gem of a place with a lovely owner.

  • "Manifold Cottage is very comfortable with lovely views across the fields."

Grindon is a very quiet village and there are no amenities so if you want to have some peace and quiet then this is the place for you. There are plenty of walks from the door so you don’t need to take the car out. The Manifold Valley is about a mile away. It is fairly close to Bakewell and Buxton (about 30 minute drive away) and also Leek. The cottage owner is lovely and is on hand should you need anything. This was our first stay in the Peak District and we will definitely visit again.

  • "We a lovely stay at Manifold Cottage, it was clean, well equipped and very comfortable."

With milk, tea and biscuits provided by Anne as a welcome pack. These were very much appreciated after a long journey. Ann has two horses in the field at the rear of the cottage, which are nice to look at when sitting out side. Also the view isn't too bad either! The Manifold valley is really outstanding to drive through, as are visits to Leek, Bakewell and the area around these towns. We hope to return to Manifold Cottage again in the future.

  • "It's a small but comfortable cottage that supplied everything you need to get away from it all."

No Internet which was a godsend. we rely to much on technology, so it was also great to be somewhere without a phone signal as well. There are some amazing walks for dogs and the cottage supplied everything you could need for your stay for cooking with. There are Fresh eggs up the road at the local farm for £1.00 per half dozen which tasted so good. Ann was a wonderful host and was there if you needed anything and made you feel so welcome, she even supplied a proper pint of milk and a packet of Cookies but most important of all was the treats for the dogs. There is a small enclosed garden which you can sit in for breakfast looking over the valley and Ann's 2 ewes and 2 horses may come and see you over the wall. They are so comical and kept our collie entertained for hours. Thank you for letting us get away from it all to recharge our batteries, Julie, Paul, Guinness and Apollo. We will definitely be coming back again soon.

The cottage was cosy & warm, had everything we needed. Only downside was the water pressure in the shower, but we had been warned so didn't matter for a week. There is no wifi signal or mobile signal which we weren't bothered about anyway. Various walks direct from the cottage over moor & farmland. It wasn't far to drive to places of interest so we had a varied & enjoyable week. Owners next door in farmhouse should you need them.

It's sooo nice to stay somewhere that's clean and comfortable, If I tried really hard to find a fault it would be a lack of Wi-Fi or phone network, but don't let this put you off because it was an excuse to walk the dogs and few hundred yards down the road I got a signal, I actually found after a day how nice it was not to have a constant ringing phone. This place is a real gem and glad to have found it

On arrival there was fresh flowers, tea, coffee, milk, biscuits and even treats for the dogs. The owner was very friendly, helpful and approachable. The only thing that would improve the experience would be a better shower. The hot water pressure is low because the tank is at ground level. Other than that minor point, we had a great time

  • "Lovely cottage, really nice, the only negative is the shower is poor with very little water pressure and the shower coming off the taps you only get a very small amount of water with no force behind it - they should really fit a power shower."

Also no phone signal and no wifi, so no way of contacting the outside world (this was fine with us, but may not be suitable for everyone). Lovely quite location, feeding horses over the low garden wall was really nice. No village pub or shop, so you do need to drive to get anything.

We were met by Ann, the owner, who was very welcoming and on hand in the farmhouse next door to deal with any queries. Gladly we didn't have to disturb her. About the location

GRINDON

Ashbourne 10 miles; Leek 7 miles.

The delightful rural village of Grindon is situated on the side of the beautiful Manifold Valley, in the heart of the Peak District National Park. Like its well-known neighbour the Dove, the Manifold cuts a course through superb scenery and is a delight for both walkers and cyclists, with the "Manifold Trail" following the route of the old Leek to Manifold Light Railway. Grindon itself is a pretty stone-built village, and close by is Butterton with a butcher's and a pub, whilst further afield is the market town of Ashbourne. The surrounding area has many pubs offering a good range of food and Alton Towers is just a 30 minute drive away.
