  • "We really enjoyed our holiday."

The barn is in a great location close to a good choice of amenities and walks. It is also very private and has a large enclosed courtyard perfect for keeping our dog safe.

  • "We had a great stay, the barn was wonderful for our stay of 6 adults and one dog."

As advertised the path down to the barn is very steep and includes steps so not ideal for those with mobility issues. We appreciated the night lights around the property they were very useful and we made use of the charcoal BBQ . We enjoyed an Indian take away from Maazi, a meal at the Little John pub both in Hathersage as well as the Milestone Country pub which is a short walk from the Barn. There are plenty of lovely walks close by which we all enjoyed. The courtyard was secure for our cockapoo who loved his stay and walks.

It is a beautiful place in a very nice area, pub and food in walking distance, great country side ! Well looked after, very welcoming coms, we stayed the second time and want to come again, only thing missing is a fire place, we stayed with 4 Kidz between 12 and 16 plus one dog, everyone was happy ! If you don’t mind the steep path to the barn it is the place to stay.

  • "We really enjoyed our stay - it is a lovely property."

The outdoor furniture was very much appreciated as we were lucky with the weather and enjoyed being able to sit comfortably outside. And the views are spectacular! The property was generally clean and well equipped but we think the previous occupants had allowed a dog on the sofa as there were dog hairs and a very doggy smell on the cushions. Also more storage would be great - both for food in the kitchen (maybe a cupboard to replace the over-sized freezer?) and drawers for clothes upstairs. None of this detracted from a really lovely holiday though, and I would thoroughly recommend staying here.

We loved everything about it! The only suggestion we would make is to provide better and more comfortable seating outside (similar to the other property) so that the guests can enjoy the lovely outdoors and fantastic views.

Thank you for your feedback and we’re really pleased you enjoyed your stay.. We love the Barn and the views of the Hope Valley. We purchased some seating (the same as the other property) though this was packed away due to the recent storms. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Property Owner

  • "This beautiful barn conversion is in a stunning location overlooking Hope valley."

To access the barn you have to walk down a steep path which wasn't a problem for our party which included a toddler, but would be an issue for those with mobility difficulties. The barn was spotlessly clean, had a dishwasher and washing machine, as well as microwave. Having read previous reviews, I took dishwasher tablets and bin bags - items I would have hoped would have been supplied. The main living areas are spread over 3 levels which meant we had to be very mindful of the toddler to prevent falls. The barn is very comfortable and was a great venue for a family get together.

  • "Fabulous house in the most amazing setting."

We've visited Derbyshire many many times as are keen walkers and this was easily the best view ever from a kitchen window! We were six adults self catering so struggled a bit with no pan large enough to hold enough food for a one pot meal and no can opener. No instructions for the microwave and it would have been nice to have enough dishwasher tablets for one each day as six adults generate lots of washing up. Other than that....fantastic time thank you. Warm, comfortable and the terrace was wonderful.

There was a secure courtyard perfect for the dogs. The barn was very comfy and had everything we needed. The views were beautiful and we loved hearing the train. There is a bit of a walk from the car but this wasn’t a problem for us, it actually kept us fit. We will be returning thanks very much. The Maxims.

Clean and comfortable and plenty room for 5 adults and our 1 yr old grandson and 2 dogs. Could benefit from comfortable outdoor seating especially when the weather is good as it was on our weeks stay. Steep path is mentioned in original listing and wow it is steep when unpacking/loading cars !! Would still recommend though.

You could not ask more of the facilities in the barn It has everything you could possibly need. There are beautiful walks available from the front door and the eldest even managed to run from broadwood barn to Stanage edge in no time at all. The views are the best part of waking up every morning and we even managed a morning cuppa outside in October. The walk to the barn From your car is in no doubt steep but manageable. We did have a problem with the WiFi whilst there but can not fault the help of the barns agents who rallied to try and solve the problem immediately. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at broadwood barn and would highly recommend it.

Thank you for your lovely comments, we’re so glad you enjoyed your stay at Broadwood Barn. We’ve listened to feedback from recent customers about the WiFi; it had been damaged as a result of an electrical storm and made the system temperamental. We’ve since had a totally new system installed which is working well. Property Owner

Only small things let us down, I mended a leak in pipe under sink, door at top of stairs I had to adjust door sping to stop it slamming shut, Vacuum cleaner has no bag inside and was full of dust and hairs I had to empty it before it would work, Lower door lock was hard to use and finally jammed so it could not be unlocked, All of which I reported to Lynn and she said she would get it sorted before the next people arrived.

We’re so pleased you had such a lovely holiday and we really appreciate you taking the time to provide your comments. • "We had a lovely stay fantastic view from the kitchen and court yard."

We did note the water when running in kitchen was I believe to have an air lock as it bumbled throughout the Barn when water used, bedrooms very clean as well as the beds, the first bedroom was very tight for space and would be better to have a single bed. The en suite toilet seat was loose, bathroom could do with de- moulding around shower door and tiles on bath. There were a lot of cobweb webs which have been there a long while in dining area toward kitchen on beam and on stair well window I do have photos if required, Candles look alike need to have new batteries and on outside fairy lights. The Barn information sheet should be left in the Barn as not many people will print off a hard copy ( I left mine for the next group). The most noticeable problem was the access to the Barn I appreciate this is the nature of the build but instead of building a new patio area I feel a new parking area closer to the office (old diary) would be more practicable as it is a long steep hill back and forth with luggage, you are defiantly fit after the stay!! While a few highlighted mentions I would go back and thank you for the welcome pack it was most appreciated and a lovely gesture.

Large private patio outside. Fully equipped kitchen and very comfortable lounge/ sofas. The only slight down side is the size of two of the upstairs bedrooms, really small with no space to put anything so makes the cottage a bit over priced for what you get. Would also have appreciated access to cushions / comfy seats outside, a bbq, and some more. clean towels and loo roll as we ran out ! For the price it’s a shame we didn’t have these comforts. Excellent customer service though and really friendly staff.

  • "Well equipped and cosy cottage."

Although the main bedroom is of a reasonable size, the other two are quite small with limited places to put anything. Nice views from the kitchen windows. Helpful information from the owners. Nicely positioned above Hathersage with just a short downhill (15 - 20 minutes) walk into town where there are plenty of shops, cafes and pubs. There is also a pub a short walk uphill (5 minutes at most). The path down to the barn is pretty steep, even for able bodied people, but it has been well maintained with every effort to make it as easy as possible. Obviously this can make it a bit tedious to transport luggage, but worth the effort. A good selection of DVD's for evenings and rainy days.

The barn was very well equipped and perfect for two couples and two babies. There is a walk down the hill to the barn but the property description describes it fairly and it was fine. However, we found dog's hairs on the sofa, carpet. It would have been better if the dog's basket would be stored in the shed and not next to the ironing board. We had a very enjoyable stay. The only thing we missed was a wok, extra bin bags and a shelf in the bathroom. It was difficult to open both doors with the key.

Unfortunately the weather wasn't very kind to us but the barn was lovely and warm and very homely. My dog particularly liked sitting at the window which backed onto the field, watching the rabbits. Would love to bring my grandson to stay so that he can watch the rabbits and also the train which runs along bottom field. We had two lovely meals at The Scotsman's Pack in the village. The food was excellent (one of the best Sunday roasts we've had) and the staff were very welcoming to us and our shaggy wet dog. We cooked a couple of evening meals in. Kitchen inventory a little patchy -eg would have appreciated some smaller (and cleaner) oven trays and one of our group was very upset at there being no milk jug! However there are a few issues. It cannot be underestimated the path from the car down to the barn as has been said in previous postings. It is long and steep and as we were battling illness this week, we found transporting our luggage exhausting. Even fit and healthy people would find this a challenge. There are a few things needed in the barn such as more mugs. There are only 6. No cups or anything else. The sink could do with a bowl. The mattress in the main bedroom is very soft. Not good if you have a bad back. The other two bedrooms are bland and lack storage and bedside tables. The views from the outer parts of the property are outstanding. There are no views from the inner parts of the property and only from the kitchen window. However, we did enjoy our stay at the barn and the beautiful Peak District.

Downstairs is very spacious and the outside area fabulous for children to play and potter around on ride on trikes. Calves came up to the window at the rear of the living room and peered in much to the delight of our grandchildren. It is important to know that anyone with mobility problems would find the path down to the barn very difficult and toddlers would have a problem. Just getting our luggage and shopping up and down was a major issue. Fortunately we had 2 large and fit sons on hand to help. I booked the barn and farm for a family get together. We are a fit 65+ Couple with no health issues so disregarded the warning about the path. Do so at your peril! Finally bring earplugs. The trains sound their horns as they approach the crossing at the bottom of the field. It was very warm during our stay and we kept windows open. Even with them closed we were disturbed at 4am.

About the location

Castleton 5 miles; Curbar 5 miles.

The attractive village of Hathersage (‘Heathers Edge’) is situated within the Peak District National Park at the beginning of the Hope Valley and close to excellent walking at Edale. Many visitors come to Hathersage to visit the churchyard and the grave of “Little John” (of Robin Hood fame) - whether he ever really existed is for you to decide! Charlotte Bronte’s famous novel Jane Eyre is thought to have been inspired by her visit to Hathersage vicarage in 1845. For a village of its size there is a very good selection of shops, pubs and places to eat, as well as a public, open air heated swimming pool and railway station. A great centre for exploring the Peak District!
