Swallows Barn

An absolutely beautiful property with so much space.

We were four adults and two children and it worked really well for us. There was an actual field of buttercups for the children to run through , a lovely garden at the back and space to eat outside. There were even two sitting rooms. It was very hot when we were there so we didn't use the breakfast room,as it was on the sunny side but this was not a problm at all as we had lots of space inside (large dining table) and outside furniture too. The barbecue was very welcome. We loved our 'Nest' as it gave us peace and quiet if we needed it and our grandchildren loved visiting us in the morning before breakfast. The kitchen is superbly equipped including good china. The only niggle was that the directions to the property were confusing. We did indeed take a hill out of Chesterfield towards the property but it turned out not to be the hill mentioned in the driving directions so everything was back to front!

This is a really lovely and welcoming place in which to stay.

It is extremely comfortable and spacious and beautifully furnished. It is also close to many places to visit and if you have younger children lots of various places that they will find very engaging. It is a real treat to stay here.

The cottage is a delightful retreat.

We have stayed there previously and it never fails to impress. We would highly recommend this cottage for a relaxing break in the Peak District

The lounge room, with grand piano, was freezing and unusable.

The heating to that room was broken. An attempt was made by the cleaner (who we met on check-in) to heat the room with a very small plug-in heater, but this made no difference. I would not use this booking again in winter, but I would consider it in the summer if I was give a partial refund because we could effectively not use the full facilities of the house.

A beautiful home, highly recommend for anyone wanting a great break on the edge of the Peaks in a stunningly and tranquil setting.

We had a lovely relaxing week at Swallows Barn, good location for visiting all the places we wanted to.

Nice and cosy accommodation love the barn would definitely book again.

The setting is wonderful, well off the road so quiet, and surrounded by its own paddock.

Open fields nearby (lovely walk to Holymoorside). Inside, it is superb! All fixtures and furnishings off the highest quality and comfortable. Such comfortable beds! Every room was a delight to be in. Loved the sunny breakfast room and the room with the piano, with great views. I loved playing the piano! Garden a delight with its sheltered patio and little summer house with its rocking bench seat, surrounded by plants. The kitchen was superb, every utensil provided and the cooker and hob easy to operate. This was a place ideal for couples and children. Children would love to explore the second summerhouse and woods. Thank you for the wonderful week we had there.

Swallows Barn was the perfect venue for our family get-together.

A nice big lounge with plenty of seating and separate TV viewing space. A large circular dining table and delightful breakfast room with views of the lovely garden. Outdoor seating areas to front and rear. Plenty of parking. Great shower. Well equipped kitchen. It even had a gas hob which is most unusual in a holiday let. The only thing we could wish for is a separate shower in the main bathroom though there was a shower attachment on the bath. Already considering booking the barn again next year.

Nice place but not how it looks on the initial listing.

The grass in the front garden is un walkable due to the height and it’s a bit wild so struggled with my hayfever and couldn’t sit out there. Also has rats in the back garden that come out to drink from the little pond so did not want to leave the back door open for fresh air. The cleanliness could do with being better as the cobwebs are quite thick in places, especially above the grandfather clock. The shower upstairs could do with a shower mat as it’s a bit slippery. The rugs in the bedroom are a bit dangerous as they creep across the floor. Having said that it’s a nice relaxing place but just needs a bit of attention in places.

Totally fell in love with it, so much so that we booked another week in October while we were there.

in over 40 years of holidaying in self-catering accommodation this cottage was by far the best, best for comfort, facilities, decor etc etc.

whilst traffic noise intruded while in the garden, in the property it was tranquil beyond expectations. we both unequivocally recommend the property

Nice and quiet with lovely views over the countryside. Very spacious with everything we needed for our stay.

Great place to stay, loads of parking, space in the barn was good, everything worked as advised, helpful guide book too.

The property was clean and very spacious.

It is in a very good location, no more than 30 mins from the major attractions of the Peak District. Would recommend it to friends and family. Only wish I could play the piano.

We had a wonderful week in Swallows Barn despite the weather!

Both lounges were extremely comfortable and the Bose CD surround sound system was excellent. The beds were very comfortable. It was so peaceful and quiet we loved it. I couldn't light the gas hob without matches though. The slider garden seat in the summerhouse was very relaxing.

Lovely property.

Great location for touring the area. Ample parking. Very comfy lounge. Quiet location (apart from one noisy cow one morning lol).

This was a beautiful accommodation and faultless in many terms, The security was to be admired and felt very safe.

We would consider returning again. If there is a minor fault we felt a little cold as the temperature dropped and the heating was limited, water bottles were not the answer, As we left the car was iced up, all in all we loved the place.

We had a splendid 7 night stay at Swallows Barn which is located in a very nice, safe and quiet area.

The views from any part of the barn are spectacular, especially the ones at the front of the barn which reach out far. The inside of the barn is very cosy and tastefully decorated, bedrooms look like those from a doll's house and the living room with the piano takes the property to another level. It was everything we had hoped for and would love to return some other time. Thank you so much Lucy!

Swallows Barn is highly recommended for the elegance of its furnishing and beautiful, private garden for sitting out to enjoy sundowners.

It is extremely well equipped in both kitchen and bathrooms and offers plenty of maps and guides to local activities. The views from the sitting room are far reaching: a lovely spot for birdwatching with binoculars provided. With iits proximity to the Chatsworth Estate, Chesterfield and Bakewell, visitors will find plenty to enjoy. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

The holiday cottage was gorgeous and very well equipped and we really enjoyed our stay.

Our only issue was the second bedroom with the twin beds which was not suitable for tall adults. The beds were too small and my 6'2" brother kept hitting his head on the sloping ceiling due to the layout of the room. It is an ideal property for a couple and two children or two very small adults.

A beautiful property, with such character.

Very quiet location but easy to get about locally to lots of places. Plenty of living space, and all facilities we needed. Colourful and peaceful back garden. Very tranquil. A folder with essential information was provided. Very helpful. Our children enjoyed some of the dvds that were provided. We went to the Bulls Head in holymoorside on our first night for a couple of drinks. Very lovely and welcoming staff. Ideal place for us to be near family. We all really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend it. Thank you.

Swallows Barn is a very comfortable, spacious and homely 'cottage' in a quiet location.

. It is very well equipped. The music room with baby grand piano and good views was a pleasant bonus. One small grumble was that the single beds are shorter than usual.

We had a fabulous relaxing time in this majestic home with fabulous views.

Always warm and masses of hot water. The only reason we haven’t given ‘accuracy of info’ full marks is that the local gastropub was closed for duration of our stay but was due to reopen in February. Good communication too.

Lovely cottage with beautiful scenery.

The bed was so comfortable. Well equipped kitchen. Loved our stay in the countryside.

We very much enjoyed our stay at this converted barn.

Equipped to a high standard and very comfortable. Lovely garden and views with walks close by. There is easy travelling distance to the rest of the Peak district and local amenities such and shops and pubs. Would definitely recommend!

The cottage was comfortable and exactly as described.

However I would not book a cottage again through Sykes as they have a condition which does not allow any visitors into the rental properties. I think this is an unreasonable condition and could be very restrictive when on holiday.

We had a lovely 4 days here, we were so lucky with the weather as this summer has been very hit and miss.

Swallows Barn is easily the best property we have stayed in, in the UK. From the start going up the long private drive, we knew this was going to be a special place. It has everything you could ask for, private back garden with a lovely seating area it is a great suntrap. The front of the property also has a seating area and BBQ (we never used this) with an absolutely fantastic view over the fields. There is so much space outside, I would say ideal for children, and safe. We saw birds of prey, rabbits, cows and of course lots of swallows. Inside was just a wow factor for all of us when we first walked in, we were so taken aback with it, it was clean ,it is very spacious, it has two living areas, one with a piano and two big relaxing comfortable sofa's, the room with the piano in was our favourite room, as it looks out onto the fields. The main bedroom downstairs is gorgeous, the ensuite has a slipper style bath which was well used, very luxurious with some bubble bath :) The kitchen is very well equipped with everything you need. We did however have some builder's turn up during our stay that wanted to start some work and said they needed access through the kitchen to replace a post on a gate, obviously we wasn't too happy, and after a conversation that my husband had with them all was well and they left, but it isn't what you would normally expect when you go away on holiday. We met the cleaning lady (sorry I didn't ask her name) who was lovely and friendly. We had a problem with a steering lock on my car and had to call a locksmith out to the property to 'free' us, the cleaning lady was helpful lending us an extension so we could hoover up the mess. We couldn't get the Bose sound system to work with the tv, I don't know if it was just us or we were doing something wrong, it wasn't too important anyway. Took us a a little while to work the oven out. We walked to the Bulls Head not realising it was closed on a Monday, should have checked the times, so we walked just a little further and had a pint at Lambs Inn instead :) Our break was quite eventful but we still had a wonderful relaxing break :) We can't wait to stay again sometime. A beautiful cottage in a lovely location.

Beautiful quiet and tranquil barn conversion, we loved it here.

Felt secluded safe and private but close to all amenities. Clean and fresh on arrival. Fully equipped with everything you could possibly need. Comfy beds and seating, fantastic powerful shower in upstairs bedroom, relaxing roll top bath in the downstairs bedroom, 3 toilets in total . Total relaxation from everyday life with plenty of room and ample storage. Beautiful gardens, totally private with lots of seating, table and sun brollies. Wifi and phone signal brilliant. Superb all round, a credit to the owner. We could gladly live here. The 3 outside doors lock automatically when closing so easy to lock yourself out so make sure you use the provided doorstops or have the key, if not there is a spare key in the key safe so remember the key safe number. Only slight criticism would be there was a brief 5 second loud grinding sound when toilets were flushed or the shower turned on but would still highly recommend this property and plan to return .

PERFECTION Perhaps a cliche but Swallows Barn was the best two bedroom two bathroom ' cottage ' we have ever stayed in.

The owners are to be commended for the very high standard both internally and externally. I so enjoyed listening to my wife play the piano.

Did not like the high level microwave as we are both small.

It would help if you stated the twin room was upstairs but all in all a wonderful place would certainly stay again.

This is a quite unique and lovely property offering a serene and peaceful setting giving open views of the countryside from several vantage points.

Ideal for a restful and relaxing time away from the rush of today's life whilst still being in touch with the "mainstream" of Chesterfield and Bakewell nearby if and when required.

... we have stayed in lots of rented cottages but Swallows Barn was easily the best. Everything was very clean, comfortable, and stylish - a real home-from-home. All you could possibly want was provided . The gardens and the views were beautiful and we would definitely recommend a stay here. For a really special meal, try the Bulls Head in Holymoorside. Excellent!

This is a wonderful place in a stunning location.

It is a beautiful place to stay with absolutely everything you could require. It is comfortable, clean and cosy. We absolutely loved it and hope very much to come back. The grounds and view are amazing too.

It is well located for some excellent trips out such as Bakewell and Chatsworth House. The house was spotless and had everything we needed for a relaxing get away.

Compliments to the cleaners the place was spotless. We did spend ages looking for the key safe. It’s not obvious that there is the other door (where the key safe is) round the side especially in the dark. It would be really helpful to make this clearer in the instructions. Thanks.

We had a lovely week at Swallows Barn.

We liked the house very much. It is very comfortable and well equipped. The grand piano was very much appreciated. Very good location for exploring the beautiful Peak District. One suggestion - please advise the cleaning staff to come at 10:00 on the last day, not 9:00. We felt very rushed and the lady didn't even say hello.

Had a wonderful holiday at Swallows Barn, everything was perfect,,just wish We had longer to enjoy the beautiful cottage.

Really enjoyed the beautifully laid out and secluded rear garden as well as eating in the sun room and outside.

Also enjoyed the comfortable sitting room for reading and the opportunity to play the piano and take in the country views. Easy access to the footpath down to the river and into the village was a bonus. Fascinated by the eco friendly features. Leaflets and magazines provided a good introduction to what to do and see in Derbyshire. All in all a very enjoyable and comfortable week for two couples. We would come back again.

After a seven hour car journey we arrived.

Although the booking confirmation gave us the access code to the property, we spent fifteen minutes outside searching for the "key safe" and nearly gave up. By this time Sykes office was closed and the overseas contact number for the owner was unobtainable. May I strongly recommend that for those of us who have never rented private accommodation before that the booking confirmation give a simple one-line description of the location of the 'safe' for the weary traveller such as 'Key safe is white box that looks like outside light switch to right of rear door' or whatever. Also, be aware that is is *very easy* as it says in the visitor guide to lock yourself out. Would definitely stay again.

Very comfortable beds, excellent lounge, countryside views. It is very close to Chatsworth house and other places of interest in the area.

I fell in love with swallows barn as soon as I walked in It is so homely and comfortable.

The furnishings are beautiful loved relaxing on the knowl settees and the bed was so soft.For such a big house it is kept spotless . Everything is there for you you only need to take you food .There is loads of cupboard space and wardrobe space. You are local to all the attractions around you. I could have stopped there forever and will definatly stay if we go there again.Cant reccomend Swallows Barn enough.

Swallows Barn looked very inviting and appeared to have all the facilities we look for when choosing our holiday accommodation and we weren't disappointed.

It offered everything we needed, exceptionally clean, extremely comfortable, especially the beds and was well equipped. The garden was beautiful and offered stunning views. There was a problem with the shower leaking during our stay but this was promptly dealt with by Lucy, the owner and didn't distract from our enjoying our holiday. We would definitely recommend Swallows Barn.
