  • "Beautifully presented cottage."

The owners have gone to a lot of trouble to provide a spotlessly clean and well equipped property. There are lots of ‘extras’ - shower gels, bath salts, boxes of tissues, food wraps in the kitchen. Ample cleaning products including dishwasher tabs and washing powders. The welcome basket was most generous and included treats for our dog. The dog wash was a particular asset, along with the dog bowls, blankets, towels etc. The owners have an eye for detail and a knack for making a rental feel like a home. For dog walkers and hikers there are a wealth of well walked, well maintained footpaths that crisscross the village in the immediate area. The only downside (and it isn’t anything the owners can do to change) is the main road outside of the cottage. Yes it is clearly mentioned in the cottage description but we weren’t prepared for just how incredibly busy it is. This road is in constant use by cars & HGVs, most of whom seen incapable of sticking to the 30mph speed limit. The footpaths alongside the road are like having a ‘near death’ experience when walking along them to the village shop/ pubs as the traffic passes so close. We also had the misfortune to be staying when the 3 manhole covers outside the cottage in the road are in need of repair. Just about every passing vehicle hits them causing a very loud bang that rattles through the house. We didn’t need to use the downstairs bedroom which was just as well as the noise in that room was extra loud because the room is right by the manhole covers.

Thank you for your kind feedback, manhole covers now thankfully repaired last week. We would be glad to welcome you back. Kind Regards Karen & Andy Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage and the welcome basket contained lots of welcome items."

Its by a main road and could not really hear the traffic apart from the 3 grids right outside that need maintenance as lots of loud kerdunks! From 5.30am. Not the owners fault at all but something to consider. Beds and furniture comfy. Bathroom beautiful.

Thank you for your feedback, we are glad you enjoyed your stay. We are aware of the grids outside and have reported them, hopefully they will be fixed soon. We would love to welcome back. Best Wishes Karen and Andy Property Owner

  • "We stayed in the cottage as an extended family of six adults and a baby as a weekend celebration of our Ruby wedding anniversary."

We found it to be clean, spacious and very comfortable and much appreciated the welcome pack (though I somehow managed to leave the bakewell tart in the cupboard when we left!). There were many things that we appreciated eg the dining table with plenty of space for six adults, the coffee machine AND the pods to go with it and the SMART TV . I think it it a bit optimistic to say there is parking for four cars. W struggled to manoeuvre two cars in the space available, especially as you are trying to avoid having to reverse out onto a busy main road. The kitchen was very well equipped except that we would love to have had more mugs. Six mugs for six adults is minimal and makes for frequent washing up. All in all though, a great place to stay, we would recommend it.

Thank you for your feedback, we are glad you enjoyed your stay at the cottage, we would love to welcome you back. Best Wishes Karen and Andy Property Owner

The garden is secure and there is a good driveway for the car. We also received a really nice welcome pack when we arrived. It is in a great location - easy reach of Matlock, Ashbourne, Derby and National Trust properties. Carsington Waters is a beautiful walk and is only 10 minutes away. The property was very clean and well maintained inside and out. Kitchen fully equipped with quality items, with everything you could possibly need, good sized fridge/freezer. Comfy beds/quality bedding with pillow and mattress protectors, seating very comfy and lovely bathroom facilities with quality towels. Heating fully adjustable and plenty of fire logs. As clearly stated, property is on a main busy road, we found the only room affected by this is the downstairs bedroom on the front but we did not use this, however it is a great room for makeup and hair as its really light with dressing table. There is a ring video doorbell which we assume is monitored by the owners for security which is reassuring but is not audible in the property so guests are not disturbed. Good owner communication from Karen and a very special thanks for the excellent quality alternative vegetarian welcome pack. Would definitely recommend.

The welcome pack was amazing and very much appreciated, unfortunately The noise from the road is advised in the description but we found it extremely loud and at times shuck the building so difficult to sleep especially as it was warm and we needed the window open. ( A note just for the owners please, the wet room drainage did not work very well it appeared the long drain did not work at all and the small square struggled to cope at times )

The only thing stopping me giving 5stars, was the tv. The one and only time I managed to get it on the picture was dark and the sound so low you could hardly hear it. No way of adjusting it as you only had Sky controller. Apart from that we had a good time.

About the location

ASHBOURNE

Matlock 15.7 miles; Bakewell 16.6 miles; Chatsworth 20.4 miles.

Lying at the southern end of the Peak District, Ashbourne is a perfect example of an English market town - market place with stalls, eccentric street plan, narrow cobbled alleys, coaching inns and almshouses. In its heyday in the 18th-century, the town was a fashionable social centre, and many fine Georgian buildings remain from this period. Today the town still has much to offer in terms of restaurants and inns and is regarded as something of a haven for antique hunters - but don’t expect a bargain! For those who prefer more outdoor pursuits, the Dove and Manifold Valleys are close by and for thrill seekers Alton Towers with its exciting collecting of rides and attractions is just a short drive away.
