  • "Loved our time here."

    Stunning location and so incredibly peaceful. Slept a log every night in a comfortable bed in a cosy feeling room. It is such a calm place and really restored us; every morning a pot of tea on the terrace looking out over fields watching the cows graze and the bunnies run amock too. My son spent a week trying to make friends with the cows and managed to have them eating grass out of his hands by the end of the week - even named his 2 favourites. Location was perfect for exploring a variety of activities and historic houses as the main roads were only 5 minutes away and to top it all suited all 3 generations! The owners were easily contactable and very helpful and arriving after a long journey to find tea, coffee, fresh milk and fresh cake was the perfect welcome. The only very minor setback was getting used to the hob and oven - it took as a while to get to grip with the instructions! We have had a number of staycations but this tops the lot by far. Thank you so much!

    The cottage had everything we needed for a very comfortable holiday. Once again we were lucky with the weather and were out every day walking. Don't think there's a cottage with a better vista!!! Already booked vist number 4!!!

  • "The house is in the most wonderful setting, surrounded by fields with woods around them."

    Not another house in sight. The house was spotless! The kitchen extremely well-equipped, with all glassware, cutlery, crockery and utensils sparkling clean. Bathroom again spotlessly clean and a lovely powerful shower. Comfy beds and plenty of power points. This property is situated in a fabulous area, with lots of places of interest within a short drive away. Oh, and to top it all, the owner had left the most delicious home-made Victoria Sandwhich cake for us to savour. Altogether a faultless experience!!! We will return!

    Perfect for a couple with children or 3-4, (we were 2 so it was really perfect!). There is something 'right' about all of the little things especially layout- its all really practical and sensible.The way the kitchen works and where things are stored: All small things that make a huge difference! Beds were great, cottage was really clean, amazing views, feels very remote but actually not far from anything, and the snow was a real bonus! Only slight negative is I don't think the supply is good enough to charge an e-MTB (I might be wrong, but we didn't risk it). A real sense of peace and God's presence in this cottage and the great views! Thanks so much for a great holiday!

  • "This is a lovely cottage for its cleanliness, warmth and comfort of all the key things like beds, towels and hot water, working appliances and so forth."

    The cottage is completely set in its own space but isn’t isolated as you can walk to a nearby pub a country road and probably over footpaths in better weather. The host left us a nice cake which was very generous. We (me and two adult friends), just felt the house needed a few basics looked at - probably things that just need to be kept up as the property is rented and you might not consider if you’re not actually staying there yourself. Nothing major but for instance, whilst there was plenty of firewood there was no matches so we had to go buy some after we arrived - also ice as there was no ice trays for making a G&T, just 3 wine glasses, not enough loo roll provided - and no cooking oil, pepper etc although there was tea and coffee and so on. The knives and peelers were broken or blunt so it was hard to prepare meals. None of this would go against me staying again but we would have liked to have known at least as then you can enjoy the cottage more.

There was plenty of space inside for 4 adults, a toddler and a baby. We thoroughly enjoyed walks straight from the cottage especially the bluebells in Kennel Woods. The homemade cake that had been left for us was delicious!

Lane Head Cottage is a beautiful stone-fronted cottage nestled within the charming village of Alderwasley.

A beautifully appointed dwelling boasting outstanding scenery and incredible views, this cottage is the perfect location for families, friends of five or two couples who seek an escape to the rural Derbyshire Dales.

Open the door of this traditional countryside cottage and step into the warmth of the spacious kitchen/dining room as you appreciate the character of the original feature fireplace and exposed wood beams.

Place your bags by the staircase and take off your coat and shoes before heading toward the cream kitchen and flicking on the kettle, so you can delight in a warm brew as you gather at the breakfast bar to map out your plans for the day ahead.

Place a log on the pretty woodburning stove and watch the fire flicker as you kick back and relax on the sofas and search for a movie to watch on the Smart TV.

Gather your bags and head up the stairs to the first-floor where you will find three relaxing bedrooms, each beautifully decorated with neutral tones and plenty of storage for housing all of your belongings.

There are both a double bedroom and a single bedroom, as well as a spacious super-king-size bed which can also be arranged into two singles upon request.

WIRKSWORTH

Matlock 6 miles.

Wirksworth is a small, charming market town situated just a few miles from Matlock, on the edge of The Peak District. Wirksworth is full of character with many buildings of architectural interest, including its magnificent parish church. Independent shops sit alongside the deli, butchers and bakers with a strong local food ethic. Visitors will enjoy exploring the ancient “jitties” and courtyards of the Puzzle Gardens, along with the Heritage Centre and the delightful surrounding countryside including nearby Carsington Water, Black Rocks and the High Peak Trail. Rock climbing and cycling can be enjoyed here at every level, and there is fantastic walking all around. Well Dressing is unique to Derbyshire, and Wirksworth combines this tradition with a lively carnival in May. There is also an annual Arts festival with an amazing Art & Architecture Trail in September, showcasing contemporary art and international performers of every kind. With an art deco independent cinema and a range of places to eat there is plenty to entertain. The town offers a leisure centre with a climbing wall and a small trainer swimming pool, The Eco Centre, The National Stone Centre and the Mount Cook Adventure Centre. The weekly market and monthly farmers' market provide local produce and crafts. Beautiful Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are within easy reach, as well as Matlock Bath, with its spectacular cable car, the heritage Ecclesbourne Valley Railway and Gulliver's Kingdom. Only two miles away, the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site in Cromford is not to be missed. In all, Wirksworth is a great location for a varied holiday.
