The layout and facilities within the cottage are first class throughout. The views and privacy with the private patio and the unbroken sightlines across, and up and down, the valley are wonderfully calming. There are wonderful walks from the doorstep and 2 pubs within walking distance, both of which are very good. A visit to the site owners own pub, The Church Inn in Chelmorton for some of the finest pub food you can find - never disappoints! A great base to also visit many of the Derbyshire dale attractions.
Love this cottage,unfortunately had to leave after 2 nights, due to health reasons.

Excellent value for money. The views are fantastic both inside and outside the property. Very well equipped with everything you could need. Photos don’t do it justice. Had been a little unnerved by some earlier reviews about the quality of the WiFi and the bed being uncomfortable. Totally unfounded. Would highly recommend this cottage. Amazing value for money. Excellent location for visiting the Peak District. Great village pub within walking distance along with cafe, local shop and a popular fish and chips takeaway. Very private and peaceful cottage. We will definitely return.
We adored our stay here, perfect size for a couple plus pooch and the views are the wow factor here.
Being greeted by the cows up close in the morning and having the peacocks come visit on our terrace elevated the experience even more so. Perfect location nestled between multiple beautiful villages with plenty of walks to be had right from the doorstep and surrounding areas. The peace and quiet here accompanied with the views from the private rear garden space is something we both very much look forward to returning to

The view is outstanding and we were very lucky with the weather. Wished the property had a fan for the hot days. Im sure we will be returning next year. Our 2 fur babies loved all the different smells!
A lovely cottage with the benefit of a beautiful view from a comfortable terrace.
Longnor village is close and has a good pub and the excellent Moorland cafe. The village shop has every essential that you’ve forgotten.
Beautiful views and amazingly peaceful - the perfect escape.
Property was spotless and the bed was very comfortable. The patio was a great addition as we sat and had a cup of tea watching the sun go down. Despite there being other properties on the site, Kestrel cottage still manages to feel incredibly private and we could easily have forgotten they were even there. Dogs are required on lead on the patio which makes sense due to the livestock and peacocks that are at the property. They manage to add to the scenery and yet there is absolutely none of the usual 'farm smell', amazing! Great central location, plenty of parking spaces, decent WiFi. Would highly recommend and will definitely be our first choice if we return to the Peak District
Wonderful little cottage with stunning views.
Owners most friendly and helpful. Cottage very clean, comfortable and well equipped. Waking up of a morning to those stunning views through the patio doors a beauty to behold. Trying to think of negatives and at a stretch would say the shower a little weak of flow but perfectly fine.

We had another wonderful week at kestrel cottage.
Absolutely stunning scenery.
We had a really great stay, everything was super clean and all the facilities you would need.
We had a severe storm whilst staying at the cottage and power was lost in the local area but the hosts responded almost immediately and provided updates etc so I have no doubt that there wouldn’t be any delay for any issues that arise which is always reassuring. The patio is a lovely area and the views are stunning - we had some peacock visitors too which added to the experience! Lovely courtyard and easy access to the pretty country roads for exploring on foot. We will definitely be back again!
Expected high standards and the views were fab.
The sofa was not a leather one as described. Dog poo was a real issue, excuses that it was peacock poo and the pics don’t lie! This is not the standard we expect when staying at Sykes properties. The bed mattress was heavily stained and old and there was a DIY piece of blue foam used to cover and my husband is struggling with a back ache he didn’t have prior to our stay. Frying pan/saucepans filthy and old so we did no cooking and the hob was greasy with stains. The plastic jug was stained with orange so couldnt use either and only one small tumbler. Sheets old and faded and yellowed as were the worn towels and obviously this is a business where anyone with a dog has to put up with unacceptable standards so sorry if a bed cannot be comfortable for the charges and the huge amounts of poo whether big birds or dogs should be cleaned up. The rug in the bedroom in front of the patio doors were heavily stained with dog urine and our therapy dog would not go near it or the bedroom curtains that were the same at floor level. We paid in good faith and let Sykes know but we are awaiting responses.
Kestral Cottage was cozy, comfortable and clean.
The view is idyllic. The tea, coffee, milk and biscuits was welcoming upon our arrival. An ideal place for a mini-break. Would like to return in the future.

THIS PROPERTY IS LOVELY - VERY WELL EQUIPED AND VERY CLEAN.
THE VIEW FROM THE REAR OF THE COTTAGE IS SIMPLY STUNNING. THE ONLY NIGGLE IS WE FELT THAT THE BED COULD BE UPGRADED. IT IS A SMALL DOUBLE AND NOT VERY COMFORTABLE - MOST PLACES NOW PROVIDE A KINGSIZE FOR A COUPLE. IF THE OWNERS DO NOT WANT TO DO THIS I THINK THE MATTRESS SHOULD BE REPLACED. APART FROM THIS THE PLACE IS PERFECT.
Beautifully situated with the most amazing views.
The veranda with glass lets you sit in the perfect peace of this vista. Some of the hedges do need cutting back because it does impede the view but still it’s stunning. The cottage is well kitted out even the use of bikes is so thoughtful. Surrounded by Matlock Bath and Bakewell to visit. Definitely would recommend this place
Kestrel cottage was in a beautiful location, with lots of near by walks which was perfect for us and our rescue dog.
We stay in a Skye’s cottage twice a year so see a wide variation of accommodation. This cottage has potential to be stunning but the things that let it down are the quality of the bed, in particular the mattress which we discovered was bolstered by a thick wad of foam as it is well past its life span and a lack of washing machine for those days when walks have been particularly muddy and wet. Other than those two issues the cottage had all the things we needed. There were a lot of dusty plastic plants in the cottage which didn’t add anything to the place, and the plant pots outside the property would help lift the visitors experience if they were maintained and filled with vibrant plants other than tired solar lights and weeds. On the whole the cottage did what we needed, our lack of good sleep was an issue as the week went on and we wouldn’t have wanted to sleep on the mattress any longer than we did as it really affected our sleep quality, hence the 3 star rating.
Comfortable cottage with fantastic views, very peaceful and quiet, very clean ideal for 2 people, nice places to visit and pubs within short drive away, cafe in longnor, cobbles,it's is a great for a yummy breakfast, also chip shop and pub in longnor are nice, plus the the church inn at chelmortan is excellent.

My third time in Kestrel Cottage.
My Boston Terrier Merlot loves the cottage, surrounding countryside and nearby pubs. :) Only thing I would change is a washing machine instead of dish washer for longer stays.
Kestrel cottage is a lovely clean little cottage with fantastic views.
It was very well equipped and had everything you needed for a great stay . It is lovely and quiet and it was lovely to see the resident peacocks walking around . We really enjoyed our holiday despite the mixed weather.
Second time at Kestrel Cottage, fantastic stay, cottage is brilliant.
Local pubs are great for food and some great walks nearby. Frank and Barbara (the peacocks) were regular visitors.

The frying pan is far too small. The hosts did not make themselves known at any stage, which is a shame. The cottage, and views however, were superb.

What a fantastic find this was!
A charming, comfortable and well equipped cottage with simply stunning views from the rear. The owners were on hand if needed (we didn't need them) but didn't intrude. A lovely Peacock and two Peahen strolled around adding to the charm. Well located for exploring around the local areas such as Bakewell, Buxton, Matlock and Matlock Bath, Macclesfield, Congleton, Leek and Ashbourne. When we return to the area in a few years time we will have no hesitation in staying here again. Highly recommended.

Views were lovely!
! A few walks nearby however you do need to drive to get to the prettier more interesting longer walks. We were lucky the weather was nice as I don’t feel I would have liked to stay here inside if it was raining. No games, one puzzle with a missing piece, sofa can get uncomfortable after a while of sitting. Unfortunately there are 2 large green fire exit lights that are very bright at night, we had to cover with towels. Very basic kitchen equipment, would have preferred a larger frying pan and most places we’ve stayed before at least had some salt and pepper. Lots of the utensils were poor quality e.g. a melted spatula. Also personal preference we’d have preferred a washing machine over a dishwasher as with a dog and muddy walks we much needed this. Would like to have been more positive as it is a lovely location with a nice view however it’s the little things that add up and don’t feel we got our moneys worth with this stay.

The cottage is in a very good location with splendid views.
We didn’t realise that there would be so many animals - cows, geese, ducks and pheasants. However, our dog who is an avid animal chaser behaved very well. The cottage is very well equipped but we have never visited a cottage with no staple kitchen items - not even salt and pepper! The Wi-Fi was very poor in the evening. We had a very enjoyable holiday with lots to do in the surrounding area.

It was very clean, comfortable and well equipped. Good WiFi that worked well, good tv. A really nice cottage, with a fabulous enclosed garden with wonderful views. Great location to explore the Peak District and you can walk from the cottage too. Great place. We will be back.

The property was very easy to find with the postcode and instructions and is set on the side of lovely valley with amazing views.
The cottage itself was very clean and tidy with a great view across the valley from the comfort of your bed. The furnishings were great but could get a little uncomfortable after any prolonged sitting (mainly due the weather in the evenings). The bed was extremely comfortable if a little on the small side. Loved sitting on the terrace (when the weather permitted) with a glass of wine. The only real negatives was the speed of the Wi-Fi, if you are going to advertise Wi-Fi please make sure its fit for purpose as we had planned to doing some work whilst there but the speed was slow to non-existent and with no mobile signal it meant we have to go elsewhere during the day to get done what we needed to do. There seemed to be an over kill of emergency lighting in the property with the charging light making the bedroom really bright at night, also if theres a power cut the bedroom light would make sleep impossible. One last thing we would have preferred a washing machine to a dishwasher. Sounds like I'm moaning but these things needed pointed out however, we really enjoyed our stay.

Beautiful location with stunning views. Really comfortable cottage with everything you need to cook, or pop to the cheese pub for food, it’s amazing and reasonably priced. Dogs are welcome. The only niggle, Bedding is a bit tired, we had some of our own. However, would still recommend.

This cottage was smart and comfortable and warm but the mattress needed replacing rather than some form laid on top and why not a king size bed in a room that size.
Considering the number of power sockets we thought that one would have a USB outlet so we bought a charger. We found that the emergency light in the bedroom to bright for sleeping we covered it with a cloth and elastic band, and the patio door best exit. Some pint glasses and tumblers would have been good.
An absolutely fantastic New Year break for us that even the weather couldn't ruin.

This is the 3rd time we have booked in this cottage, it is absolutely stunning.
From the setting to the bathroom, the fixtures and fittings are lovely. A good quality, all one level conversion. Plenty of lovely walks right on the doorstep or just sit in the garden area looking at the stunning views. The furniture is very comfortable, my only moan would be the mattress maybe needs turning more regular as it is getting a little uncomfortable, moreso with us oldies with our aches and pains.

This was our 4th visit to kestrel which shows how much we likeit.
Unfortunately this time we had to wait in our car until 4 30 while it was got ready for us. Also planters on the fence were dirty with dead plants in them. Apart those two things we once again had a lovely holiday and hope to return.

The views from the cottage are amazing. The private patio is perfect for sitting out and relaxing. The garden is small but with views like that it doesn't need to be any bigger. The cottage has wood floors and the garden is enclosed so perfect for dogs.A great location for exploring the Derbyshire/ Staffordshire dales. Lots of interesting dog friendly walks. We especially enjoyed Grinlow woods, Black Rocks,Monsal trail and Padley gorge. We will definitely book again.

Kestrel Cottage is a real home from home with the addition of an incredible view!
It provides every comfort, is spotlessly clean and situated in beautiful surroundings. Just visited for the 4th time and already looking forward to next year.
We stayed at Skylark 2 years ago and immediately booked for the following year at Kestrel before we left.
Regrettably circumstances prevented us from going last year but Sykes Cottages and the owners were excellent and allowed us to carry over the booking. The Cottage is beautifully presented, quality throughout. It is situated in an idyllic location with superb views up and down the valley. Having its own private seating area is a bonus. The whole place is serene, beautiful, and with a wonderful rural peace about it. Justin is a wonderful host, and they also run a pub, The Church Inn nearby which has great food and atmosphere. Quite frankly it is difficult to imagine, for us, a more perfect holiday. We are already booked again for 2024

Great walks from the door and excellent dog friendly pub in Crowdecote and others within easy reach. My Boston Terrier Merlot didn't want to leave!
The cottage is stunning, the fittings and utensils provided go beyond other cottages.
The only thing we think that was disappointing was the shower, such a lovely big shower enclosure with a shower head the size we use to just wash our hair.

It's our third time at this property - home from home. Fantastic views - great furnishings and friendly hosts. A great base to return to after a day exploring other places - We've been very lucky with the weather yet again and the only things maybe which would be nice purely for selfish reasons would be an outside heater on the terrace for those more chilly nights and mornings

What a wonderful week in Kestrel cottage. On arrival spotlessly clean and so cosy and comfortable as weather had turned bitterly cold, Bed very comfy and bathroom great size with lovely shower. We have stayed in Lapwing cottage about five times and love coming to the Peak District. Thanks again Justin and Julie and will get booked up again for the spring time. Can’t wait to return xx

! Everything about Kestrel Cottage was wonderful!!
Arriving at the cottage at 4;00pm we found it was freezing and due to the heating system it took a very long time to warm up.
It would have been nice to arrive and be warm. Kestrel cottage is in a beautiful setting with lovely views. The outside seating area is private and an enjoyable place to relax. It's furnished to a good standard and was reasonably clean. Mugs had lipstick/stains around the top. We felt we had to put everything through the dishwasher to be safe. Everything else was clean. The bed was terrible. Extremely uncomfortable and creaked with every movement. Worst bed we've ever slept in. We tried sleeping on the sofa but this was equally uncomfortable. If we were not going onto Scotland we would have gone home after 3 days as we were exhausted. This ruined our holiday. We did turn the mattress on the 4th day and noticed a slat missing. Although this probably didn't help it was the mattress that was the real problem. We wouldn't recommend this cottage based on this. However, the kitchen was well equipped and only needed some pasta bowls.
The perfect Peak District cottage!
The owner's attention to detail to make this the ideal country property is amazing. All boxes ticked for a great stay. I would agree with a previous review that said the photos on the Sykes site don't do it justice. The character, warmth and cosiness of Kestrel Cottage aren't conveyed in the pictures.
Exceptional ,probably the best we have stayed in with Sykes.
Only downside was the uncomfortable bed.

Lots of lovely walks and a very relaxing peaceful stay. The cottage was very roomy with everything we needed. Unfortunately the mattress was very uncomfortable which was a shame as after walking on our days out we needed a good nights sleep.
My wife and I stayed for a week in July - We found the accommodation modern clean warm and comfortable.
Views from the patio garden we’re beautiful overlooking hills and pastures . We had visits from cattle to the field at the bottom of the garden.
A shame we had to leave early, the biscuits and milk were a nice surprise on arrival.
The cottage was lovely and clean and Smokie our dog really enjoyed exploring the garden area.
The only thing we found was the bed was not comfortable and too small at 4’6”
Fantastic cottage with all facilities provided.
Our only concern(s) the bedroom would benefit from the owners providing a column fan (we took òur own). The double mattress has seen better days, not conducive for a good sleep and actually creeks.
Very enjoyable stay and we will certainly return, however there were a couple of niggles!
1. Coomfy bed but it creaks without fail 2. The green fire exit light in the bedroom was VERY intrusive when trying to sleep. I realise there is little if anything to be done about this safety requirement. Overall, a wonderful cottage
Kestrel Cottage exceeded our expectations.
It was more spacious than we anticipated, comfortable and thoughtfully equipped. The one hundred and eighty degree view from the patio garden was stunning.

The cottage was well appointed and spotlessly clean The underfloor heating meant that it was always cozy and warm The only improvement I would suggest is that the bed was a king size instead of a double I would recommend the cottage and hope to book with Sykes again in the future as the service they provide is excellent
We had a great time.
The property is very nice, we loved everything about it. The only thing I would add is a mirror in the bedroom where one can see more than just the face. There's a lovely mirror above a chest of drawers but way too high. The sofa didn't feel particularly comfortable, and we couldn't get cosy with the blanket as you can tell that dogs go on there... This is ideal for dog owners. But I'm not complaining. Next time, I would take my own blankets. We never got to meet the owners to thank them for letting us stay and congratulate them for having such a lovely accommodation. Please extend our gratitude.

We stayed at Kestrel Cottage last week of Oct.
It was perfect for the two of us and our Puggle. The garden is dog friendly for our size dog. Amassing views from the terrace where we made sure we had at least one drink a day, even if we wrapped up in blankets. Lots of info in cottage of where to go, For us Rudyard Lake was a great day . Although Bakewell was a good town visit parking was a big issue, but worth it for the cake. Longnor shop has the essentials but found ourselves going through Buxton most days which has Sainsburys and Morrisons. Pooles Caven and Buxton country park also a good walk. If you are looking for Peace this is it. If we did this area again this cottage is a must.

In a really quiet and peaceful location close to the local amenities. The cottage was clean and more spacious than we expected with everything we needed for a relaxing holiday.
Cottage was very clean, quality furnished, and had everything we needed.
In a beautiful location with amazing views from patio. Only tiny negative was that, although cottage was geared up for 2 adults, dining table was very small.
Great addition to have Smart TV, we were able to logon to Netflix, needed to be reminded to sign out at end of the stay.
Also 1 more gate at the beginning of the 'alley' would make the patio area totally secure for a small dog, I kept Bob the Terrier on a very long leash just in case he shot off down there as he could easily have jumped on the wall and out into the car park and main farm lands, I never take take risks in the countryside. The patio area was the best we have ever experinced in 35 years of holidaying together, sunrise and the mist was pure magic.(if you were awake at 5 am like me) Please pass on my comments to the owner.

This cute one bedroom cottage is ideal for a stay in the peak district.
The views are absolutely amazing and the accommodation had everything you would ever need and more! From the complimentary biscuits on arrival to the under floor heating, this place is a must for a relaxing stay away. The cottage is close to all the touristy towns but far enough away so you feel you are in the middle of nowhere. The owners could not do enough for us. Next time....we stay for longer.

Ideal location for visiting different parts of the Peak District. On arrival Milk in fridge, packet of biscuits and tea and coffee sachets. Nice touch.

The holiday cottage was so lovely, there was absolutely nothing we could fault about it, and in this weird time with COVID they had clearly stuck to the guidelines and we felt completely safe entering - everything was immaculate.
We had a lovely break and would undoubtedly stay here again if we ever come back to the area. Booking with Sykes was easy and pain free, all the necessary information was supplied both on the app and via email, I never had a single question because the info provided was so thorough but I'm sure if I had the answers would have been prompt as well! Thanks to both Sykes and the cottage owner for giving us a much needed and relaxing holiday in 2020!
Beautiful clean cottage, it was everything we thought we were getting.
Just a shame we never met the hosts.
The view from the patio was was even better than the photo's in the advert.
The walks were a bit taxing as we are not used to hills in Suffolk. We had several trips out and the Peak District was beautiful even on the rainy days. The local pubs were very accepting of dogs and very welcoming in these Covid times.

Wow!
What a stunning place this is. The setting is absolutely beautiful with incredible views across the valley towards the hills. We spent every evening of our seven nights admiring the surroundings from the patio garden whilst enjoying a meal..a glass of wine or a coffee...often sitting out until after 10.30 as the weather was kind to us. Very private too. The cottage was well equipped and the owners had thought of everything. Even leaving milk in the fridge and a lovely packet of biscuits along with tea and coffee so you can enjoy a brew as soon as you arrive. The furniture is comfortable and attractive..the bed is really comfy too. Plenty of storage. Large shower cubicle.. fluffy white towels. Patio doors open straight from the bedroom...each morning we opened the curtains to that lovely view. Often visited by the inquisitive cows in the field below the garden. On the evenings that we didn't dine outside we moved the dining table into the bedroom so that we could enjoy the views from the opened patio doors whilst eating our meal. We didnt watch much TV...instead we listened to the radio which was provided. Lots of lovely walks straight from the cottage . Or a great base for enjoying walks in the surrounding area. SIMPLY PERFECT.
We would not normally holiday here in this country or consider a week self catering.
However that said we do love walking and this a superb spot to walk. The scenery is absolutely stunning and nothing was too much trouble for our hosts. We would recommend the pub ‘The Packhorse Inn’ at Crowdecote who offer a warm welcome and superb ambiance
A clean and comfortable cottage in a lovely area.
As the cottage is still very new, all the furnishings and fittings are in excellent condition. Very well-planned accommodation, spacious bedroom, good en-suite, and an outstandingly good, fully enclosed patio with modern rattan furniture and gorgeous views. Brilliant for a couple and a dog. The cottage is well placed for visiting any area within the Peaks, and is not far from Buxton for shopping and culture. We had a great time.
