The well-equipped kitchen/diner includes an electric oven and hob, microwave, coffee maker, kettle, toaster, dishwasher, washing machine and fridge/freezer — ideal for preparing relaxed meals or leisurely breakfasts together. (Please note there is a step down into the kitchen). The comfortable sitting room, accessed via a step up, is the perfect place to unwind after a day exploring. A wood burning stove adds warmth and character, while the Smart TV makes for cosy evenings in. There is also a small workspace with a desk, monitor and keyboard if you need to catch up on work or spend time on your laptop.

Upstairs you’ll find a spacious super-king-size bedroom with views over the garden. The bed can be arranged as a twin or double, for flexible sleeping arrangements. The bathroom features a bath with shower over, basin, heated towel rail and WC.

Oil central heating keeps the cottage warm throughout the year, and WiFi is available throughout.

Outside, the enclosed front garden offers a peaceful place to relax, with a lawn, mature flower beds and a patio with furniture and parasol perfect for morning coffee or evening drinks in the fresh Derbyshire air. With donkeys, sheep and free-range chickens in the neighbouring fields, you’ll feel truly immersed in the countryside. Off-road parking for two cars is available.

Pigwig Cottage is ideally located for exploring the Derbyshire Dales and Peak District. Footpaths run directly from the cottage, including the Midshires Way, connecting to the High Peak Trail, so you can leave the car behind and head straight out walking.

There are plenty of delightful towns and villages to visit in the area too.

Wirksworth – a charming historic market town just 2.2 miles away.

Matlock Bath – often called “the seaside town without the sea”, known for its aquarium, arcades and traditional fish and chips, 4.6 miles away.

The village of Crich (known as Cardale in the hit TV series Peak Practice) is full of character and history, and boasts a number of shops and several pubs. There are walks around the village, and trams (the village is home to the National Tramway Museum) move up the valley to some of the most beautiful views of the Derbyshire Dales. Matlock, 7 miles away, offers a range of shops, pubs and restaurants, as well as attractions such as Gulliver’s Kingdom. Magnificent views down the gorge can be enjoyed from the cable car that takes visitors up to the Heights of Abraham - a great place for all the family with its show-caves, nature trail, water gardens and Owl Maze. South of the town is the start of the High Peak Cycle Trail, while to the north are the market town of Bakewell, Chatsworth House and Park and Haddon Hall, with Carsington Water offering fantastic watersports - not to be missed! Ideal at any time of year!
