What a wonderful place!

From our first day to the last we enjoyed every minute in this beautiful house. It felt so cosy and welcoming. Thank you for the wine, cake and milk it was much appreciated

A fabulous cottage in a perfect location.

The cottage was clean, contained everything we needed. We were close to restaurants, coffee shop's, a bakery, pubs and shops. Ideal location to explore the beautiful Peak District.

Very comfortable cottage in a lovely location.

Would highly recommend. Only 2 comments - would be helpful to have a folder with info about what to do with the rubbish, sheets, how to control the heating and wood burner etc. Also the dining room chairs are very uncomfortable and 2 or 3 were bent/broken. Everything else was perfect - thank you so much. Will return!

Excellent base for walking in the Peak District parking at pub as organised by owner was a massive plus.

What a wonderful home!

My family and I met up from the East and the West of the country for a weekend of hikes and adventures and this property served us perfectly. Stylishly decor and well facilitated, and the ability to park for free in the pub carpark was massively helpful in this little village. A lovely little courtyard to the rear was all we needed for outdoor space. Upon reflection the families only little suggestions would be to provide some tongs to turn/remove food on the grill and to also give the sofa’s a good bash outside as the cushions etc seemed dusty (it was either this or an air freshener sadly affected allergies for 3 of us) this is something i have already mentioned to the wonderful host. Thankyou for providing your home for us to stay in.

We were made to feel welcome in the call with the owner from the start.

Located on the main road opposite the general store and near the bakers, so a prime location. The added addition of off-road parking just down the road and close to the property. Everything clean and as expected and a pleasure to stay in. Lovely property.

Everything maintained to a great standard. Host is friendly and approachable if you have questions. Would not hesitate to recommend this stay.

We had a wonderful stay at Chandler House.

The cottage was even more beautiful in real life than on the pictures. It was well equipped and the beds were incredibly comfortable. I’d definitely book to stay again!

What a lovely cottage.

Beautifully decorated and furnished, with all the necessary equipment to hand. Games room was a godsend with two young boys to entertain. The cottage is very central and directly opposite a little shop and coffee shop. The owner was kind enough to leave us some essentials, but if you forget anything the shop opposite has a lot of choice. We only stayed for two nights, but could have happily stayed longer. The road outside is fairly busy, but don’t worry it is very quite overnight. Parking was provided for free at a nearby hotel only a minute away from the cottage. The owner seems to have thought of everything and deserves a positive review. I am usually quite critical of places I have stayed in the past, so I tend not to leave a review. In this case I felt a positive review was a must.

Wonderful 3 nights staying at Chandler House, with three generations.

Julia the host is a lovely lady and is very helpful and is on hand always pre arrival and during.. The cottage has 4 beautiful bedrooms with fresh crisp bedding, the bathroom was spotless and very large and there were plenty of clean bath towels and hand towels provided, also bath mats. My parents slept in the front bedrooms and were not disturbed by any traffic flowing. The games room with pool table was a hit with my son and all cues and balls were provided. The kitchen and dining are very french shabby chic in light grey and wood, loved it, the kitchen was a fantastic size and again tea towels and all equipment was provided. The dining area opened out on to a patio (sun trap) with outdoor furniture and very enclosed. The lounge was a lovely country cottage style. The cottage is centrally located in the village with a local shop opposite. I would most definitely stay here again. Thank you Julia for a lovely family stay. PS if you are over 6ft, you will just need to duck going in through the front door

Lovely decor with comfortable sofas and quality artwork and decorative details and courtyard area.

Lovely clean bedding and towels (would have liked more than one each as the ladies needed to wash their hair). Plenty of hot water so 6 of us could all have showers but the shower screen doesn't work so despite 2 bath mats the bathroom floor was quickly flooded and slippery. Blinds didn't fit the front windows at all so light came in round the edges (I can't comment on the back bedrooms as I didn't check) so we were woken earlier than we would have liked. Only one light bulb out of 5 (I think) working in one bedroom (didn't check the others) The hairdryer fused if on setting 2 so it only worked for 2 minutes then died. Husband changed fuse and same thing happened again so we just went out with wet hair. Hopefully it can be replaced for other guests. Biggest disappointment was how dusty it was. Previous reviews said it was spotlessly clean but there were cobwebs on light fittings in several areas and the faux and dried flowers were furry with months worth of dust (I have photographs if necessary), shelving and tops of pictures etc dusty. Our son was sneezing all weekend. There were dirty saucepans in the drawer and dirty bowls in the cupboard (difficult to see and check as they were stacked so that is excusable). Another gripe was the combination of non stick cookware (all scuffed and damaged) with metal implements (plastic would make damaging the saucepans less likely). Otherwise we had plenty of crockery and glassware so that was good. We had a lovely time celebrating my husband's birthday but were disappointed by the lack of attention to detail with what could be a beautiful property. Hopefully this feedback will be taken constructively as it really is a lovely house.

The property was excellent, very cosy and welcoming.

The welcome gifts were lovely and well presented. Location was perfect for walking and exploring the area. The kitchen was stocked very well, had everything and more.

The house is lovely.

It was very comfortable and very clean. There was a lot of attention to detail and nice extras for Christmas. The pool table was a big hit. It is on a busy road, we knew this and it was fine, it might bother some people though. Great pub quiz at the Peak Hotel, lots of cafes and walks from the door. Thank you.

Gorgeous property in a beautiful location.

Stunning area if you enjoy walking and excellent location for pub goers. It is a large property but still feels cosy and homely. We particularly enjoyed the fire and the pool table. Property is well equipped and many amenities close by. Would highly recommend.

Our faces were beaming from the moment we stepped through the door.

Perfect cottage, large enough for seven guests, cosy, comfortable and stylish. Right in the centre of Castleton with parking outside of the door. Such a perfect stay. Made even more perfect by the generosity and warm welcome of the perfect host. Julia was on hand for any question we had. We cannot wait to return.

Fabulous property everything was spotless.

All you needed in a kitchen. Woodburner was lovely on a cold wet night. Situated perfectly in the village for all the eating places and shops. Would definitely return.

A beautifully charming house in a perfect location, super clean and comfortable, ample space, quiet and exactly what we wanted. Julia was super helpful throughout our stay too! Would highly recommend Chandler House to anyone and we're already planning our return. Absolutely gorgeous!!

Located perfectly in Castleton with easy access to the local shops, pubs and restaurants. Also great for walks within the beautiful location. Great communication with the owner, nothing was to much trouble if we had a questions about our stay or the area as we had not visited this part of the country before. Hope to visit again and would

The pool table was great, we like the back patio and appreciated the bottle of wine.

We also loved Castleton. The road noise made it very difficult to sleep in the front bedrooms or relax in the living room. We contemplated leaving early, it was so bad. If double glazing isn’t possible heavy curtains would help. The single bed was very uncomfortable, I would suggest it needs a new mattress. It was not possible to sleep on it. The living room had a strong smelling diffuser in, which me and my daughter are allergic to and because the window can’t be opened that meant I could not use that room. The house was very dark and gloomy and the grey furnishings didn’t help. It was also very dusty and some of the furniture was shaby, and some of the draws didn’t open. The main bedroom was damp and there was either damp or dust inside the dresser draws which got on our clothes. We did our best to clean out all the draws before using them, but that doesn’t feel like we should have had to do that. Overall it’s a lovely cottage with great space inside, it had a lovely bathroom and was in an amazing village but it needs some investment to soften the road noise and brighten it up. So we won’t be staying again.

Everything about our stay, from booking with Sykes and contact with the proprietor, to the house itself, the village and the surroundings were beyond our expectations.

The house is extraordinary - welcoming, so beautiful and very well equipped. It is perfectly situated in the middle of the village with all amenities, including buses, within close walking distance. Julia made us feel very welcome with a set tea tray, milk in the fridge and a bottle of wine. We felt trusted and cared for as guests (which is not always a given) an aspect which greatly adds to the feeling of comfort! We would love to come back! Thank you for a wonderful week!

The Christmas decorations were very pretty, we loved the real fire and the pool table. We hope to be back soon.

Chandler house was brilliant.

I have been renting cottages in Peak district once or twice a year for the last 15 years - this was best one ever!! great location right in middle of town - but you can park just down the road. House very well maintained and clean. Pool table is good quality - 4 cues, chalk, rests etc. Shower - super powerful and warm. Kitchen - high level epuipment and good washing machine. Great cottage!!

Lovely stay at an excellent property.

Everything you need and in a great location.

Lovely cottage with super courtyard garden (complete with nesting birds) and sweet touches in the house by way of set out tea tray and books.

Perfect location for all amenities, loads of places to eat within a stones throw.

Very well presented, very comfortable, though one of the doubles is a bit of a squeeze for two people (bed against wall). Great welcome with tea, biscuits a even wine! The only downside was the noise from traffic in the front 2 bedrooms but there’s nothing much can be done about that, except maybe some complimentary earplugs….

Great stay.

Only slightly negative thing to mention is that we had no control over the heating. Heating was set to come on twice a day but it seemed like the wrong time to come on as we were out. Made up for it with the wood burner downstairs but beds were cold after 9pm.

It was beautiful and had absolutely everything we needed.

Will be booking again.

Really loved it. Pool table a real hit. Little improvements needed. Replace fire alarms. Fit extraction to small toilet. Fix fan in oven that didn't seem to work

Lovely cottage the pool table was a real hit

Beautiful cottage with everything you need and more.

Lovely style bedrooms and the beds were so comfy. Log burner was great in the evenings and we were lucky enough to be able to sit outside in the garden in the day. Shower was so nice, didn’t want to get out. Nice welcome pack left, very considerate. Place was spotless and the owner was excellent especially with the communication throughout the stay. Place is in a great spot with loads of walks on your doorstep and some great pubs mins away. Great place to stay and will definitely be back.

Lovely cottage in great location

This is such a great cottage.

Comfortable, clean, very good facilities and ideal location. The pool table is an really welcome addition and kept some of our group entertained for hours. I will definitely consider this cottage when I visit again. The location is good and it is only a few minutes to walk to any of the pubs and restaurants (and there are many to visit) The owner Julia has an arrangement to provide free parking close by which is useful as the town gets busy on a summer weekend. She also leaves a very helpful welcome pack that covers many kitchen and bathroom essentials. When you first arrive you might be concerned by road noise but dont worry. It really quietens down in the evening.

The only problem visiting Chandler House is you’ll probably never find another place that will be as good!

Location was ace. House was perfect. Beautifully decorated with some additional extra touches. Kitchen was well equipped. Pool table was good entertainment. Bath and shower were amazing. Courtyard garden was secluded and very quiet. Loads of beautiful walks to do nearby too. Thank you Julia for a wonderful stay.

House was really lovely and the owner was great when we contacted her but your parking guidance isn’t accurate about the property.

Please liaise with the owner and detail exactly what is required for the parking to save others worrying before arrival. As I said though the house is great and we’d go back for sure.

The house was not only in a superb location, great value, and true to the description, but Julia had also got to some effort to finish the property with real style and left us mince pies, a bottle of wine, and various other thoughtful touches.

Chandler House is a beautiful holiday home in a stunning location, all the rooms are beautifully furnished and the beds are extremely comfortable, the kitchen was well equipped, The owner was very Friendly, helpful and accommodating and we would happily stay again.

The countryside around the cottage is wonderful for walks and Castleton has a good choice of restaurants and cafes.

Super cottage in a great location.

Lovely decor & equipped with everything we needed for our family get together. We particularly enjoyed the pool table & (between showers) made good use of the pretty outdoor space which we hadn’t expected.

Excellent for a short break - loads of room for a family of 5.

Great kitchen and dining room, and the pool table and WiFi much appreciated. Very handy for everything with shops on the doorstep and never a problem parking. Owner was very, very helpful (as were the neighbours). One minor niggle - despite the owner giving instructions the TV refused to switch from the DVD player to the satellite (scrolling the input menu simply did not work) until the eldest (IT savvy) worked out that you could trick the TV by switching the HDMi input cables after the DVD had started up. With no control of the CH, it was a bit chilly in the evenings away from the fire - but not really a problem. Curiously I couldn't find the cottage as available through the Sykes site, but did through Snaptrip. All in all would happily stay at Chandler House again and highly recommend - the best we have stayed at in the area.

This is a fantastic holiday cottage which felt very homely and cosy with everything we needed.

Excellent location central to Castleton for the many pubs (though spent most time in the Peak Hotel), food and circular walk over Mam Tor and along the Ridge. Recommend 1530 Restaurant for a great meal. The pool table kept us entertained with mini tournaments!
