Pickle Cottage

I booked Pickle Cottage to have a small gathering for my 40th birthday and I wish I’d have booked 2 nights instead of the 1… the area itself is stunning, the cottage was perfect and the host was super accommodating and communicative.

I’d definitely stay again and highly recommend! Thanks so much x

The whole family loved the stay! The cottage was fantastic! We had a family of 6 and there was so much room can't highly recommend this place enough! People so lovely and helpful couldn't do enough to make your stay wonderful! Definitely going back there! ❤️❤️❤️

Cottage is cosy, clean and well-equipped; decent space for 6-plus.

Kids enjoyed the games and DVDs. Owner is readily available for any questions and there is loads to see/do in the area. Very good value for money. Definitely recommend and we all agreed we want to stay there again.

We enjoyed our stay, but comparing to our first stay at accommodation through Sykes (this was our second) the hostess wasn’t as thorough showing us round the accommodation, but friendly enough.

We really struggled to use the oven, the owner said it was self explanatory, but it took a long time to cook until we moved the shelves round. Once we did this it worked a lot better. The parking was very tricky especially if you have more than one car as did we as there’s a small car park beside the pub which appears to be used by people living behind and there’s room for some cars in front of the cottage but parking is very limited. The children loved the bedroom above, but for adults you really have to bend or you will hit your head. The location was okay and there was things to entertain the children with plenty of car parks (street parking was limited due to an insane amount of motorbikes present over the weekend).

A very welcoming host, the property was a perfect base for exploring the area, close to Carsington water & Cromford with lovely Wirksworth a short drive away.

The cottage has a great outside area; sun trap in the afternoon! We enjoyed BBQ’s & outside dining. The pub next door is a real treasure, lovely locals, dog friendly and full of interesting decor. 2 families with 2 teenagers each had a relaxing and comfortable stay with all we needed and great value. No ‘house guidebook’ but Jane is on hand for all your questions & was very helpful. We’d definitely stay again.

Absolutely gorgeous cottage, location was perfect and host was so lovely.

The kids had a great time, and the locals in the pub were really friendly. It felt like a home away from home.

Pet friendly. Cosy and warm Good facilities Tea and coffee provided Pub next door very welcoming and also pet friendly. Village pub so did not disturb us and sometimes has a food van. Kettle wasn’t working but a replacement was provided immediately. Very happy to stay again!

I get 10-15 holiday homes a year and have done for past 12+ years.

This was one of the best I’ve ever stayed at.

Jane was a really lovely welcoming host and we enjoyed our visits to the pub, meeting all the locals and their dogs!

A very relaxing place for a big family get together, with spectacular dog walks nearby and everything you could ask for provided.

The cottage was clean and comfy inside but two things made me score it a 3.

Outside the cottage was a dumped washing machine, scooter with a flat tyre, a broken pump with a cable, rusty BBQs and a pot with cigarette butts in. The bedroom with extra beds up on a mezzanine floor had lights not working / bulbs missing. This was important to safety as the stairs to the mezzanine were in darkness and the steps were high in a really narrow space. This wouldn't take much to correct. It's a lovely good value cottage just let down by some simple maintenance.

We absolutely love our stay, excellent pricing and the hosts have always been very accommodating & helpful.

I booked this cottage for a uni reunion, was a beautiful quaint cottage and we got given an extra night for free!

The kitchen was fully equipped and it was easy for us to all take turns cooking. Was very handing to have a dishwasher to. Was a short drive away from both Matlock and Bakewell and had short local walks around the area too. Only downside was there was no where to eat in the village, this meant we couldn’t all have a drink if we eat out or we would have to cook back at the cottage, but that is not the end of the world. Would highly recommend. Beds upstairs can easily fit two adults, they just have to mind there heads. Free parking also at the neighbouring pub. Don’t have a bad word to say, would stay again

Everything was better than expected, the kitchen had everything we could have needed - a very cosy cottage in a lovely area

Lovely cottage, good sized bedrooms, our boys loved the mezzanine bedroom, good en suite & good sized bathroom.

Small patio (not used) kitchen diner/lounge cosy. Attached to a lovely friendly/locals real ale pub.

We had a lovely extended family stay, the house was a perfect base for exploring the beautiful countryside and enjoying the local pubs.

The kids had a brilliant time and loved the little touches like games near their beds and plenty to keep them amused in the pub!

Nice cottage situated in a lovely area for walking, mountain biking, etc.

We had a lovely time with the family. Being mega critical there were a few bits that needed updating/general maintenance but it’s an old cottage and just added to the quirkyness really! Owners were very friendly and helpful too. We’d definely stay again.

The noise from the staircase was so bad we all struggled to sleep if any one moved around with two dogs that needed to go out in the night made it very hard as we understood from the description it had a private garden which was a share roof terrace which wasn’t practical The cottage was clean and well laid out with equipment but on the whole we would not recommend it to anyone else with dogs

Pickle Cottage is a lovely quirky cottage set in a lovely village.

Alan and Jane very helpful with any queries we had. I would recommend this cottage. There were 5 of us , three adult and two children so would easily sleep 8 as advertised. The upstairs mezzanine was brilliant for the children to sleep in. Every where was clean and of course you can take your dog with you.

The cottage was ideally situated, clean and comfortable.

Jane was very welcoming and helpful. We'll be back for sure!

We had a lovely weekend, we are two families that come together a few times a year.

Our four girls aged 12-14yrs loved having their own space in the larger bedroom. The cottage had everything we needed & was a great base to go & explore the area. We will definitely be back again. Thank you to Anne, she was a great host.

A neat little cottage, aesthetically furnished & decorated, with all the useful amenities required which made it truly, a home away from home!

Lots of visitor attractions at a stone's throw away. I would definitely recommend it.

What a fantastic find.

A lovely cottage with great facilities. Easy to find, easy to park. Lots to do on the door step - recommend Black Rocks, about 3 miles away with pretty but steep walks, amazing views. The owners of the cottage were helpful and very friendly. Their pub next door is a proper country pub with beautiful and interesting decorations. We look forward to returning.

We loved the property - it was very cozy and perfect for our two families with children.

The location is very good too, and we did two interesting walks around the area. So all in all thank you so much! The only issue was heating - it was really warm and we could not set the radiators to give moderate heat or switch them off - even on low setting they were very hot. The only way was to switch off the heating completely using thermostat. If there is a way to tune it, it is worth informing your guests for their comfort and also to save some money on the bills.

Great cottage in a lovely village location.

Excellent place for sightseeing, dog walking and plenty of places to dine out.

Very pleasant landlady and locals. Supermarket and petrol close by. Road closures signs not always right! Try the road before taking long detours. Could,nt fault the cottage or location. Well done.

The cottage was beautiful and had everything you could ask for.

The owner is so relaxed, friendly and helpful and was especially welcoming of our dogs. The pub next door is very friendly and worth a visit. Lovely area with some stunning walks. Highly recommended.

Cottage down stairs quite small good job the rest of the party couldn't come . Booked for 6 adults 2 children. Was ideal for 4 adults 2 children. Upstairs was very large and roomy. Kitchen was well stocked with most things you would need. Bathrooms great with Good water pressure. Host very good. Would certainly recommend and will be going back. Thank you.

We had a lovely break at Pickle Cottage, it was cosy and warm.

Well equipped kitchen and nice spacious living space. It is in a great location if you want peace and quiet. The locals are very friendly and we were invited out on the village walk as we emerged from the cottage one Sunday morning, we had an instant new set of friends! The bus service is excellent for a remote location and good valley for money if you are still of a fare paying age! We would love to return to the area some time, it’s taken a piece of my heart!

Place was perfect, town was delightful, countryside was outstanding.

Everything about the cottage is nice, except if you are planning to travel by public transport then Sunday is not the day to choose.

However there are hourly buses to and from the doorstep on all other days of the week.

The holiday and the cottage were fabulous.

I will definitely book with sykes again, it was great to be able to take the dogs and know they were welcome. (there were even dog towels available for muddy paws), Perhaps you can arrange better weather next time though haha.

Well equipped kitchen. Really cosy. And walking straight from the door..... what not to like?

Absolutely lovely cottage; we felt very comfortable here.

The main living area was small and cosy but still fit all 8 of us in. The bedrooms were a good size and everywhere was spotless. We would definitely stay again.

Walks from the doorstep and all the facilities we needed at the cottage. It was fantastic that our dog was warmly welcomed by our host which allowed us to relax and enjoy the space. There’s a pub next door with lovely ales but does not do food so we needed to drive out or cook in for eats.

Once we had got used to the (very), noisy stairs, it was a very comfortable cottage - well placed for exploring.

The only two slight issues were the lack of suitable cooking equipment for the microwave, and the dim mirror lighting in the bathrooms (difficult to shave in your own shadow).

We could not fault the inside of the cottage or the helpfulness of the owner, However there was no reason why vehicles, especially the owner's huge van, were parked up against the cottage, taking over the frontage.

Also our bedrooms overlooked the pub courtyard, so we were aware of chatter ( and dog barking ! ) well into the night......... The saving grace was the nearby public garden where we could sit and enjoy the sunshine and beautiful countryside views.

The only problem was parking.

Sometimes the parking area of the pub was packed and it was difficult to unload baggage and pushchairs.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay; the cottage is ideally located.

Pickle cottage was absolutely charming, everything you could possibly need had been thought of.

Jane and Alan are very friendly, as are the locals in the pub next door. Our next holiday cottage will have a very hard job to match Pickle Cottage. The standard of comfort, cleanliness, decor and fittings was excellent.

It was a great holiday.
