  • "The cottage met my expectations rather than Sykes service."

Enjoyed the period furniture of the fifties, sixties and seventies and brought back many memories. Lack of WiFi was a problem, plus poor phone signal but a coin box at the property would mean that family could contact me if needed and vica versa. Owners always responded to queries promptly. Couple of small problems with tv, remotes and fridge but owners aware and dealing with it for next guests. Lovely flapjacks!

Many thanks for your feedback. Unfortunately it is not possible to have wifi at this property due to the rural location. Mobile signal can usually be achieved in the garden area dependent on the network.Thank you for letting us know regarding the other points you raised. Property Owner

  • "This is an excellent cottage in a very convenient location."

The cottage has excellent facilities other than lacking a wi-fi connection which wasn't particularly important to me as 4G is present nearby. Cooking facilities are first class and there is a separate dining room. Bathroom has a shower and a bath. The garden area is raised and very pleasant, enclosed and not too large. You can watch a variety of birds on the bird feeder from the lounge, during our stay coaltits and a nuthatch were regularly present and were not even put off by a visiting sparrow hawk. You can walk a few hundred yards down the road and access the River Bradford which provides super circular footpaths to Youlgreave and beyond. Within easy reach (20 minutes max) by car are Matlock, Chatsworth, Bakewell, Lathkill Dale, Millers Dale and Monsal Dale. A country walkers paradise. I highly recommend this cottage.

Thank you for your feedback, we are glad you enjoyed the property. We do not advertise the property with wifi as regrettably due to the rural location it is not possible. However we hope that the peaceful and tranquil area makes up for this, and we are glad you enjoyed the local wildlife. Property Owner

  • "Rose cottage is a beautiful well equipped cottage furnished to a very high standard."

We loved the retro furnishings, crockery etc. It was warm and cosy and the fuel burner was a delight with plenty of wood etc provided. The house was exceptionally clean on our arrival with homemade flapjacks, tea, coffee, bread, milk and eggs. The lovely garden was a suntrap and looked very pretty. The position of the cottage was lovely. Plenty of walks and shops and pubs just over a mile away. Definitely recommended.

It was thoughtfully and stylishly furnished and the outdoor area was perfect. The only one comment was that the master bedroom was very small and it was a good job we only have small bags as there was little room to store them. It felt like a home from home though and we thoroughly enjoyed staying there. The owners made us feel very welcome.

Contained everything we could have possibly needed, easy to find everything as well ordered. Cupboard of board games was well used. Please note there is no WiFi (and we only got signal in the garden) so this was the only thing 'missing', but also a benefit if you are wanting a peaceful retreat. • "We were looking for a quiet getaway and that was what we had."

The only snag was that the Sat nav didn't pinpoint where the cottage was located within the village, but after asking we found it quite easily. The cottage was fabulous and the flapjack, bread and milk made a great welcome. We had a slight problem with flies but realised this was probably because we opened the front door into the kitchen rather than using the back door. An altogether lovely week.

It was very well equipped and in a quiet location, opposite a farm where you can get fresh eggs. The owners had left fresh eggs, bread and flapjacks for us. There were lots of lovely walks in the area. We originally found it quite difficult to find the cottage even using a sat nav and there was no internet or phone signal in the cottage. The wooden staircase in the cottage was quite slippery and so had to be very careful going up and down them. However, we had a fantastic few days break.

  • "Just returned home from a 3 night stay at Rose Cottage, what an amazing little gem this cottage is, the owners have thought of everything you need and much more, it’s a cosy home from home."

The walk down the river into the next village of Youlgrave is magical and with the choice of pubs in the village is a great pit stop before the returning walk back to cottage. The owners have thought of everything from games, DVDs to plenty of books to keep you busy, my hubby throughly enjoyed reading the book about the history of Middleton well worth reading as it gives you a good insight into the village, and we enjoyed spotting the different buildings as we walked through the village. I loved watching the birds on the feeders outside the window. The cottage has everything you need for a great stay in the Peak District, and is not far from Bakewell. The under floor heating is amazing. I would definitely recommend this cottage and we will definitely return in the future, the homemade flapjacks left as a welcome are delicious and went down a treat. The owners of this property have got it just right, and thought of everything, we’ve had a great time and we hope to be back soon.

  • "This was an exceptionally comfortable and lovely cottage."

It's warm and comfortable and very well equipped, with some lovely mid century ceramics. The selection of local history and guide books is the best I've ever seen in a cottage. There are many lovely walks straight from the door. Middleton is beautiful and a very peaceful location if you want to get away from it all. Downstairs is beautiful and very well thought out. The front bedroom is also very good. If you like GPlan you'll be in actual heaven. It is slightly let down by the double bedroom at the back, the kids certainly got the better deal in terms of space and comfort and the view. The back bedroom did smell a bit damp and the window was stuck and we didn't want to force it open for fear of breaking it. My main discontent though was there were no bedside lights and no bedside table. I knew from the pictures that it was a small room and there were wardrobes either side of the bed but in practice it is a real pain not to have somewhere to put a cup of tea. The pictures did show reading lights on the wardrobes but there weren't actually any there, this should be sorted. I think it would also be worth considering swapping one of the wardrobes for a bedside table.

It was very well equipped, cozy and comfortable. A perfect balance of modern and traditional which make it feel like a home from home. The owners had thoughtfully provided a welcome pack of provisions including home baked flapjack which was delicious. A cot and high chairs had been set up for our granddaughter and they even had equipment for our dog. It is in a lovely area with beautiful walks nearby. We especially enjoyed watching the birds on the feeders at the front of the house. The wood burner was a real treat. We plan to book it again in the near future.

The property

An absolutely delightful cottage, set five miles from the popular town of Bakewell, on the edge of the pretty Peak District village of Middleton-by-Youlgreave.

Accessed through a little garden gate, via the front patio, guests will enter into the characterful kitchen, which is very well equipped and light and bright with its high ceilings.

The kitchen also boasts the added benefit of a breakfast bar and cosy heating underfoot, making it warm and welcoming.

Two steps lead down to the cosy sitting room, with the focal point of a cream woodburning stove, the perfect accompaniment for cooler evenings.

This room is also very tastefully designed with a unique blend of contemporary and retro features.

From the sitting room, the dining room leads on nicely, with its large table where you can enjoy time together arranging activities for the days to come, or discussing the events of the day over a traditional family board game.

A bathroom completes the ground floor, and then upstairs are two bedrooms, both individually styled in keeping with the rest of the cottage.

Outside, the garden areas are a delight with two patios to choose from to the back of the cottage, and then to the front and side you’ll find a further patio and small lawned area.

Opposite the property is a working farm, and the lovely little village of Middleton-by-Youlgreave is a delight to wander through, surrounded by a network of footpaths criss-crossing this beautiful part of Derbyshire.

Within a short drive is the lovely little market town of Bakewell, with its wonderful choice of shops and eateries, and a traditional market every Monday.

A visit to the majestic Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall should not be missed, both within easy reach.

This is a beautiful little cottage for a small family or a couple looking for a rural village escape with a little bit of luxury.
