What guests are saying
We enjoyed it stay very much, and Barks Cottage is a lovely base for a holiday.
There are a few things to note that may help people make an informed decision. 1: parking is tricky. We had only one estate car and it wasn't easy to get on and off. Possible, yes. Easy, no. I don't see how two cars would work. 2: there is a washing machine but no dryer. There's not a lot of space for indoor drying so unless you're expecting great sunny weather for outdoor drying, washing is a challenge. 3: the internet is very poor, borderline unusable. This seems to be because the WiFi router is not in the property itself, and as such is not strong enough to maintain a signal, especially when weather is poor. There is also no DVD player. So plan for that if you have media-starved children! Other that these points, we found everything to be wonderful. Plenty of fridge freezer space, comfortable beds and sofas. The dining table was a little cosy with four people but we managed just fine.
The cottage was ideal and very peaceful.
Larger than expected and both bedrooms had plenty of wardrobe space. Location was perfect with walks from the door and easy drives to scenic locations. Front garden was lovely to sit out in and see the birds and watch the sunrise. Very large expanse of accessible green space and woodland behind the cottage. We walked through this a few times during our stay. James and Catherine ( and Storm their placid dog) live next door and available for any queries or help if needed. Would highly recommend. The cottage is a close drive to Alton Towers if you plan to visit there.
Great location for Alton Towers.
In our opinion the cottage was not of a standard that we would expect from a holiday cottage. It could do with modernisation and a deep clean.
