  • "One of the very best holiday cottages we have stayed in."

The kitchen was very well equipped, perfect for our family group who like cooking, and plenty of cups and crockery, no need to wash up in between setting the dishwasher on! Very clean everywhere, very comfortable sofas and beds, lovely well-maintained garden to enjoy a bbq and space for children to play. Footpaths across the fields, almost straight from the back door, great for our two Collie dogs. Can recommend nearby Ilam Park, beautiful National Trust parkland. We will definitely be back to Slade House to explore the area further. A weekend was not long enough!

The gardens and terraces of Slade House and Cottage are a lovely place to sit outside all together. The position of the properties is wonderful with glorious views and several footpaths on your doorstep. All are very comfortable and well equipped. The owners Julie and John could not have been more helpful. We had a fantastic stay; I would highly recommend Slade Farm.

The setting, nestled in the most stunning countryside, is just beautiful. We loved the house and everything provided. The homemade cake, the milk and prosecco were very welcome and the hosts were brilliant . A great place for our party of 8 - all able to eat together at the huge round kitchen table. The barbecue out on the large decking area was most appreciated on our sunny weekend. Excellent WiFi connection too and amazingly comfortable beds. We'll be back !

  • "As discussed when we left, water pressure in showers was very low."

We ended up all using the downstairs shower which seemed the best.

Thanks for bringing the issue of low pressure in the showers to our attention and apologies for the problems you experienced. Since this post we have replaced the hot water cistern with a non vented system and we believe this has fully addressed this problem. Therefore future guests should be able to enjoy the character of this old farmhouse and its beautiful location without being troubled by this issue. Thanks again. Property Owner

  • "A really nice property in a great location."

There are 4 bedrooms and they're all good-sized and luxurious. Location not as spectacular as the Lakes, but it is quite remote and because it's elevated it certainly felt like we were away from it all, with good walking from the door, and yet within striking distance of places to visit. The weather was not great while we were there, but the house was nice and warm and clean and it suited our party perfectly. Mobile signal is a bit unreliable but the WIFI was good so we weren't cut off from the world. Would recommend.

  • "Slade House Farm was a perfect location and property for our family of six (4 adults and 2 children) for a half term get away."

The property was clean and warm when we arrived (in the snow!). The kitchen was big with plenty of dinnerware, utensils and fridge space (2 fridges). The heating system was great allowing the temperature to be controlled in each room. The beds were extremely comfortable with the two upper floor bedrooms each able to be configured into two singles or a superking. The second upper floor bedroom is accessed via a very narrow walkway between a wall and the staircase rail which caused no problems for us but may be an issue for some with a larger frame. Unfortunately we had some issues with the hot water pressure during our stay. We contacted Julie (the owner), who arranged for a plummer to come out within an hour! While the issue was seemingly fixed, the water pressure was still not good enough to run more than a few centimeters in the bath in the upper bath room. The two first floor bathrooms had shower head attachments connected to the bath but only one had a wall mount and neither gave particularly good showers. Because of this we all used the downstairs shower (accessed via the kitchen) for the duration of our stay. This was a nice shower, the water was warm and the room was also able to be kept warm. However the pressure was not great. That said, there was enough hot water for all six of us the have a shower. These small issues however did not cause any real problems for us. The house was wonderful and we had a lovely stay. Julie's cake that was waiting for us on arrival was greatly appreciated and truly delicious. Julie also welcomed us to say that if we has any issues, we should contact her. This was appreciated. We would all recommend the property and would definitely consider staying again.

We couldn't fault the property, especially the extra touches, such as the Christmas tree and decorations. We wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

The house was lovely, quirky, warm and well equipped. The owners made us feel very welcome with a tasty cake and wine when we arrived. The fact that it also had a Christmas Tree and decorations in place all contributed to the festive feel which given we were there for a family gathering for Christmas was wonderful. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and gave us all a real feeling of peace. As a bonus a charging point for an electric care was available and used. Thank you

Julie and John couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. The sponge cake and brownies on arrival were well received as were the milk, prosecco and flowers. We needed the garden to be enclosed for the dog and John got straight on it putting some sheep gates across the steps for us so our puppy couldn't escape. Slade House was a lovely base for our holiday and there were some great walks just on our doorstep. We would definitely stay here again.

The location is stunningly beautiful. The welcome from Julie and John was very warm, as was the house itself when we arrived, which was very much appreciated. The kitchen is very well-equipped, the rooms are all comfortable, and we felt very at home straightaway. If we had any questions, Julie always answered our texts quickly and was very helpful. There are walks from the farm, or the well-known sites like Dovedale, Ilam Park are close by. We had a very special time here with our grown up children and their dogs. It really couldn’t have been any better. A huge thank you to Julie and John.

  • "Julie and John offered us a wonderfully generous welcome and gave us great information to make our stay enjoyable."

They are very attentive hosts and addressed our concerns as best they could. Slade House set in a beautiful, peaceful setting and the surrounding countryside is lovely. We made the most of our access to the nature and beauty of the Peak district. We felt that the property did not meet the luxury standards that the price led us to expect. The bathroom situation was disappointing. The only shower is off the kitchen. It is not a good quality shower and the shower curtain does not prevent water from pooling on the floor. Apart from not being able to have a comfortable and relaxing shower - the hassle to try and clean up after yourself and the resulting wet mats, and water puddles meant that subsequent use of the toilet is not pleasant. The heated towel rails were not working which made it difficult to dry wet towels, shoes and wet floors. While Julie tried to help us sort this out we only manage to get one working. The latch on the door between the 1st and 2nd floor is broken so the door cannot be closed. This means it hangs open across the doorway to one of the bedrooms. The experience I had with Sykes when I needed others to take over the logistics was also really poor. I am happy to discuss this and let you have more information if you want it.

  • "Slade House was much better than we expected."

Walking down to the house Julie had left the lights on down by the path and in the tree so we could see exactly where we were going. A lovely welcome pack which included a home made cake and brownies, milk, fizz and flowers. The heating was on, so it was lovely and warm. It was spotlessly clean on arrival, and the owners have taken great care during this pandemic. With throws and pillows all bagged up with notes to let you know that they have been isolated for 7 days between guests. So spacious for our party of 6, yet such a homely feel. Having two ensuite bathrooms was a real plus. Mattresses were so comfortable. The log burner in the kitchen was wonderful, and with as many logs available as needed was an added bonus. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay, as did the dogs. I would definitely recommend Slade House to anyone and hope to be back one day.

We were able to walk from the door and didn't really have to get into the car at all. The house is very well equipped, with plenty for 8 people. It was scrupulously clean on arrival with a welcome vase of flowers and a delicious cake! It was nice having the use of cushions and throws etc which were in plastic covers and apparently removed and kept isolated for 7 days in-between guests. Even though there were other people in the other cottages, we were not aware of them. We may well return one day.

  • "Fantastic holiday home."

House was warm on arrival (Important during Autumn/winter months). Kitchen diner is perfect for a medium size group to eat and socialise. Lots of bathrooms, all of which were clean, warm, and fully functioning, Surrounding land is beautiful and on the doorstep. Although the weather wasn’t that cold during our stay, we loved the fact that we could grab a few logs from the barn after a long wet walk and dry off next to the log burning stove. This accommodation is perfect for families with lots of kids or groups of friends. The farm house is a bit out of the way, which is exactly what we wanted, but might not be for everyone. We have a 4x4, so the pot holes on the track that leads to the farm (which is to be expected) weren’t an issue, but I imagine a car with low suspension or alloy wheels may need to take it steady. Thank you to the owners for allowing us to enjoy your property, it really added something extra to the trip knowing that we were coming back to the farm house when we were out in the rain! We will definitely return here whenever we visit the Peak District.
