  • "Lovey cosy ground floor apartment in a great location for exploring Buxton."

Slightly quirky layout but has everything you need for a relaxing stay with 2 well laid out bedrooms with lots of storage, a bijou but practical kitchen and a lovely large dual aspect living room with a log burner. Being snowed in flagged that the dvd or hdmi connection lead could do with being replaced - a bit of wiggling a few times did the trick in the end… Close to all amenities with Buxton town centre just at the bottom of the hill. Overall a very enjoyable stay and we look forward to coming back without the 7-8” of snow

Hello Richard, Thank you for your positive review. We’re so glad you found The Lanterns comfortable and practical, allowing you to enjoy your stay. Thank you for letting us know about the DVD player, we’ll get it looked into pronto. We look forward to seeing you again soon, hopefully with less snow. Many thanks Property Owner

  • "The apartment is ideally situated for exploring Buxton and the Peak District more widely."

It is in a quiet, leafy residential area just minutes walk from the town centre. The apartment itself was comfortable, warm, cosy and peaceful; there were no issues with noise from the adjoining flats. The kitchen is small with limited counter space; it was manageable to prepare meals for 2 but would be more awkward for 4. However, the living/dining room is a lovely, light room; it was a pleasure to sit there and relax. Having a private car parking space was a big plus.

Hello Valerie, Thank you for your positive review. We're so pleased you enjoyed your stay at The Lanterns. We hope to see you again in future. Many thanks. Property Owner

The bedrooms are a good size and comfortable; the bathroom and kitchen and compact and efficient. Central heating is very effective. The living room room is lovely - a double-aspect space, comfortably furnished with a dining table, sofa and chairs and we found the log burning stove very cozy in the cooler autumn evenings.

Hello Neil, Thank you for your positive review. We're so pleased you found The Lanterns comfortable, cosy and conveniently located for everything you wanted to do. We look forward to seeing you again in future. Many thanks. Property Owner

  • "Property was very well furnished, the beds very comfortable and had made best use of small kitchen space, I struggled to reach the top shelf as not particularly tall, husband could though."

Unable to reach top shelf even with low step provided. Also you needed to put food waste into compostable bags which is fine but no caddy to hold them in so we used a mixing bowl. We would happily stay here again if we visit the area again.

Hello Lynne, Thank you for your positive review and feedback. We're glad you found the beds very comfortable and The Lanterns well furnished for your holiday. A comfortable bed can make all the difference. Being a period property the ceilings are typically a little higher and to make the best use of space in the kitchen the cupboards are a little taller so it can be difficult for some to reach the top shelf without the step. However, to make it easier we have tried to make sure the most commonly used crockery and utensils are stored lower down. Hopefully this helps. We look forward to seeing you again, Many thanks Property Owner

  • "This is a beautiful ground floor apartment."

It’s really comfortable and warm and well presented. There was a welcome pack of tea, coffee, milk and cake which we very much appreciated after a very long journey. We couldn’t open the key safe on arrival, so upon ringing the owner, he contacted his mother who lives next door and she showed us the knack. She reassured us not to hesitate to ask for any other assistance we might need. The next day I received a text from the owner who hoped we’d settled in and again said to contact him should the need arise. We would really recommend this holiday cottage. It’s just a few minutes walk from the heart of Buxton, which is a really lovely historic spa town with a lot to see and do and an amazing number of good restaurants.

Hello Jan, We're so pleased you enjoyed you stay with us. Thank you for the positive review. We know you had a very long and unpleasant journey up so we're glad you managed to relax and enjoy your break at The Lanterns. Glad the tea, coffee and local cake went down a treat too! Make sure you go to the St Moritz Italian/Swiss restaurant just down the road and The Old Sun Inn pub in the Main Street - the food in both was superb. Lanterns was pretty much perfect for me. The beds are really comfy and the bed linen was high quality. It has a very well equipped kitchen and a beautiful lounge. I shall be back next year.

  • "Very nice and clean cottage, WiFi was working only in the living room."

Owner of the property said they won’t provide any towels or pillows. Had to speak to sykescottages, finally they agreed to provide pillows. Overall it was a good experience.

Hello Navdeep. Thank you for your review. We're sorry the WiFi was only working in the living room. We are looking into getting this resolved in the quieter months. It's the thickness of the walls that make it difficult for the signal to penetrate into the bedrooms. We are also sorry for the misunderstanding regarding pillows and towels. Had we been made aware of your personal circumstances beforehand we would have been able to accommodate your requirements without any issues. However, we're glad that overall you had a good experience. We hope to see you again soon! Many Thanks Property Owner

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Lanterns, in Buxton."

The flat was clean and very well equipped, with modern fixtures and fittings. In particular we loved the bright, airy living room, while the beds were far and away the most comfortable we have ever found in holiday accommodation. The owner’s instructions, directions and ideas for walks etc were clear and very much appreciated. Although we had been to the Peak District before, we had never visited Buxton - so it was lovely to get to know the place, and with The Lanterns ideally situated just a short walk from all shops and amenities we were able to enjoy all that this beautiful town has to offer. We were very sad to leave!

Hello James, Many thanks for your positive review. We're happy you found the Lanterns clean and well equipped, and even more so that you found the beds the most comfortable you have found in any holiday accommodation. Little extras on arrival most appreciated. Buxton was a nice place to walk around and the park well worth a visit. I'd suggest a visit to the NT property at Lyme is well worth it as there is lots to see and its very reasonably priced. The owner was in touch on several occasions and his Mom, who lives next door, checked to make sure everything was OK. If we visited Buxton again I'd be more that happy to use this property again.

It was a short walk to the centre with plenty of shops and bars( although some where not open due to only being able to drink outside) The only problem we had was the drive up the lane to the lanterns ,we have a low car and it bottomed out about 3/4 of the way up,although it didn’t damage the car but be aware. But all in all we had a very enjoyable stay

Hello Tracy, We're glad you found everything lovely, and that the fire was an added bonus not having one at home. We're sorry you had issues with the lane. The place was very comfortable. We enjoyed the fire in the living room and the owner left some lovely cake, tea and coffee for us to enjoy. Would recommend! The Internet was long avalable in the living room which was not a problem at all but might be useful for other people to know.

Hello Ellen, Thank you for your review. So glad The Lanterns was perfect for your break. The local cake is a form favourite amongst our guests so I’m happy you enjoyed it too! We appreciate your comments regarding the WiFi. It’s a problem we will try to solve in the quieter months. About the location

BUXTON

Tideswell 7 miles; Bakewell 12 miles; Matlock 21 miles.

It was the constant 28 degrees centigrade of the bubbling blue waters of Buxton's eight thermal springs that originally attracted the Romans to the town. However it was during the 18th and 19th centuries, under the patronage of successive Dukes of Devonshire, that the Palladian splendour of the Buxton of today was designed and built - including the magnificent semi-circular Crescent, The Great Stable, Hall Bank, The Square, The Pavilion Gardens and The Opera House. Today visitors continue to enjoy these magnificent buildings and gardens, as well as the Opera House's full programme and annual festivals of music and arts. There is good walking close by with rugged peaks to the north and gentle hills and dales to the south and a number of pretty towns and villages are dotted throughout including Bakewell, Ashford-in-the-Water, Castleton and Edale. The stunning properties of Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are within easy driving distance and must be seen while visiting this area. A great base for exploring the Peak District.
