    We are 4 girlfriends who work together and have been coming to Tideswell for 17 years This was the first time at billywhiskeys We had a lovely few days Such a quirky place to stay Very clean and the welcome back was lovely The Beds were very comfortable and the lounge up stairs was lovely Very close for lovely walks and great pubs Easy parking The owner was easy to reach and very helpful when the key broke in the lock and he sorted this straight away We will definetly be back

  • "Charming, clean, comfortable and high quality accommodation in a beautiful Peak District setting."

    We stayed for an Easter family break with our dogs and had a lovely time. The cottage was well presented, cosy and well equipped, with everything we needed for a relaxing stay. It made a great base for exploring the area, and we really appreciated the peaceful surroundings. A very enjoyable stay and we would happily recommend it.

  • "We had a wonderful week at Billy Whiskeys - the house is beautiful and full of character."

    It was very clean and had everything we needed for a family of 5 with older teens. Very comfortable beds, lots of areas to sit and chat and play games (there are lots of board games), and cooking on an Aga was a new experience and lots of fun. TIdeswell is a great village, very friendly, v nice pubs and cafe and wonderful walks from the front door, and very well positioned for anywhere in the Peaks. Would highly recommended - it’s even nicer than it looks in the pictures !

  • "A beautiful cottage."

    The cottage is decorated so nice. It has a calming vibe. The owners have thought of everything. Down to the last kitchen utensil. The beds are so comfortable. We were there with 6 adults and 4 dogs. There was so much space. The property is set in a very peaceful place. We would highly recommend staying here.

  • "Bills Whiskey was a lovely cottage with plenty of room and placed very centrally in the village which had good amenities and good pubs."

    The stairs would be tricky if you had mobility issues and the Aga was difficult to use if you haven’t ever used one. I would also prefer a washing machine to a dishwasher . But owner was quick to respond and overall we had a lovely stay! Thank you

  • "We had a lovely stay at Billy Whiskeys."

    We stayed the week before Christmas, and the house was very warm, clean and thoughtfully decorated. We loved using the Aga to cook, and found the kitchen especially well-equipped for a holiday home. Tideswell itself was perfect, the village having plenty of small amenities, as well as being an attractive and central location in the Peak District.

  • "Wow! What a great place."

    We stayed here with family and friends (6 adults), and there was plenty of space for us all. Very warm, cosy property in beautiful Tideswell. Three lovely pubs all within a very short walk and a lovely cafe-Tideswell lounge which sells lovely food and drinks. Loved hearing the church bells which were not that loud or annoying as stated in a previous review. Great property in a great village, we will definitely return.

  • "Interesting quirky property in a great location in the village of Tideswell."

    There were 4 of us staying in the property - all of us over 65 - so we found the stairs on different levels a bit of a problem. It was always very cosy in the house and we all slept well. Always found parking in the street. Had problems with the internet which were not resolved during our stay. Very short walk to a lovely pub with wonderful hospitality. Try pie night on Wednesdays.

  • "This is a truly wonderful cottage."

    Quirky, beautifully decorated, clean, warm and cosy. We arrived to a thoughtful welcome pack including local butter, eggs, milk, bread and cake. The beds were super comfy and the kitchen has everything you could possibly need. The house is located in the perfect location for exploring the Peak District. Tideswell is lovely and so friendly. We had no issues parking outside and the pub directly opposite is welcoming and serves delicious food. We thoroughly recommend going for pies on a Wednesday night! Whilst we loved the church bells going off every 15 minutes, light sleepers may want to bring ear plugs. The only things we struggled with and fed back to the very helpful owner were: *Wooden kitchen work surfaces are super, super sticky. Pans stuck to them. We never felt they we could clean them properly. *There is a steep wooden decked bridge to get into the garden which is very slippery when wet. One morning there was a frost and myself and dogs couldn’t even get over it! (And the perfect addition to this house would be a washing machine. With kids and dogs and muddy walks we did struggle)

    The property has everything you could want, it is clean, warm, comfortable and homely. Absolutely loved the Aga in the kitchen! Lots of walks and pubs right on the doorstep and many more a short drive away. Perfect base for a relaxing week away walking the peaks and eating good pub grub. Would definitely stay again and highly recommend.

    Well located in the centre of the village, with the co-op minutes away, parking on the street which was very easy. And the cottage is delightful, cosy and all the amenities you could need. We loved the Aga (and the helpful instructions), relaxing areas. We really appreciated the very generous welcome pack of local milk, butter and oatcakes. And we had four dogs, with plenty of room for them all, and the dog shower, perfect after an inevitable muddy walk. The garden is small, and not grassed, but the church or field at the back are easy to get to. There are alot of stair, and the first floor bathroom is a bit awkward to get into, so I would only suggest some more handrails

The property

Nestled in the heart of the Peak District National Park in the small village of Tideswell, sits this impressive cottage, Billy Whiskey's.

Enjoying a blend of rustic and contemporary features, this historic property is a former shop dating back to 1729, and takes its name from the first shop keeper, Billy Whiskey.

The property has been thoughtfully renovated and now offers families and friends a pet-friendly dwelling and wonderful base to explore the countryside.

Leave your vehicle in a roadside space before making your way inside to discover the shaker-style kitchen, with an AGA cooker to whip up heart-warming meals.

There's also a sitting area with a cushioned sofa and wall-mounted TV to relax with a cold beverage whilst dinner is cooking.

Adjacent, you will find the dining room with an exposed stone wall and beams; here you can gather together for meals and enjoy a pack of cards for some family fun.

Climb upstairs to the first floor to unwind in the sitting room, where a woodburning stove gently heats the space as you relish a glass of wine.

The first floor leads out onto the rear garden, so why not carry the conversation onto the outdoor decking, as your furry friend stretches out in front of you?

As day draws to night, retire inside and sink into the tub for a bubble-bath, as the Velux window reveals the night sky.

Next door, is the master bedroom, hosting a king-size bed and to discover two more bedrooms, venture to the second floor for another king-size and a twin bedroom, serviced by a shower room.

In the morning, awaken tired eyes with a steaming cup of coffee in the garden, ready for a day of exploring.

Just paces away is the local pub, The Star Inn, where you can sample real ales and home-cooked meals, or pop into the convenience store for your own ingredients.

Jump in the car to visit local attractions, including Eyam Museum to learn about the Plague, stroll along the wonderful Water-Cum-Jolly Dale and test your stamina on an incline walk up Mam Tor.

Visit the Spa town of Buxton; here you can enjoy live entertainment at the grand Buxton Opera House, if that's not for you, delve underground into the two-million-year-old Poole's Cavern & Buxton Country Park.

Also, within easy reach and worth a trip, is the town of Bakewell to taste the renowned Bakewell Tart at a café or tour the stately home of Chatsworth House.

The village of Tideswell stands in the heart of the Peak District National Park. Famous for its fine church dedicated to St John the Baptist, known as "The Cathedral of the Peak", the village is also noted for its well dressing and carnival wakes. There is excellent walking with rugged peaks to the north, gentle hills and dales to the south and Millers Dale just outside the village. Mam Tor and Castleton are only a few miles away and the popular Spa town of Buxton is within a 15 minute drive. Tideswell has many fine country inns, a chemist, butchers, bakers and much more including a convenient supermarket open daily until 10pm. The pretty little market town of Bakewell is also just a short drive away and well worth a visit.
