“We recently stayed at the cottage at the end of September for a week.”

It was the perfect retreat for me, my husband and our small dog. The cottage was very well equipped and has everything you need for a self catering stay. The owners left wine, milk, crisps & biscuits for our arrival which I thought was a really nice touch and very appreciated. There was a limited amount of wood for the wood burner but after a text to the owners, a box of wood was delivered straight away. The owners live on the property and are always just a phone call away if you need anything. The cottage was very clean and there is also cleaning products & equipment as well as a washing machine which was handy as we were there for a week. The cottage is situated perfectly if you are wishing to visit tourist attractions of the Peak District. Everything is within a short distance from the cottage. There are supermarkets 10-15 minutes away. Good local pubs include The Tickled Trout in Barlow and the Royal Oak at Millthorpe. The area is perfect for walks. The cottage has amazing views over the countryside. The cottage sits on the road and at times the traffic came past at high speeds. Not a negative comment towards the cottage as this is obviously out of the owners hands but just something to keep in mind if you are taking small children or pets. There is parking on the grass next to the cottage for one vehicle which was perfect for us and made loading / unloading a lot easier! The cottage sleeps four but there was only two of us plus our dog so I can’t comment on how suitable it would be for four people, but for us it was ideal. The only very small negative I had was the sofas are a tad uncomfortable to sit on for any length of time. It wasn’t a huge issue for us for the most part as we were out for most of the days exploring however we had one rainy day where we decided to stay in. Overall the cottage was fantastic and in a great location. I would highly recommend to anyone wishing to visit the Peaks! We will definitely be back.

These stone-built cottages have been converted to a high specification, giving a light, contemporary feel, and have open plan living areas with kitchen, dining and sitting areas. Each cottage has been equipped and furnished to a high standard and tastefully decorated. There is a woodburner in the sitting area, ideal to relax by on the comfy leather sofas on chilly winter evenings, and the original beams have been retained where possible, reflecting the character of the original barn. The cottages are surrounded by fields and delightful countryside views and even a duck pond along the lane. Why not wander down the footpath through the fields to the local pub and restaurant to enjoy a drink and a meal after a day's sightseeing? About the location

Chesterfield 4 miles; Sheffield 12 miles; Matlock 12.5 miles; Bakewell 12 miles.

Barlow is a pretty village situated on the edge of the Peak District National Park. An old mining village on the River Derwent dating back to the Domesday Book, it now boasts three pubs and a church. The village is situated in a rural location, surrounded by undulating countryside with deep valleys and high moors and is convenient for exploring the attractions of the Peak District.
There are many stately homes to visit including Chatsworth House, and its 1000-acre estate, magnificent gardens, farm and craft shop, children’s farmyard, play area and restaurant, and also nearby are Haddon Hall and Hardwick Hall. The historic market town of Chesterfield, with its famous 14th century church with a crooked spire, along with the lively city of Sheffield, are both within a short drive, as are the amenities of Matlock and Bakewell, or the opera at Buxton. An ideal location whatever the time of year.
