  • "Invermay is a great property and Jennifer is a great host."

The welcome hamper was wonderful. Sea views from all rooms. The kitchen is huge and has everything you need and more. Decorated and specified to a high standard throughout, but it still feels like a home. We would certainly stay there again.

  • "The property itself was lovely."

Would have been great views from lounge but there are still maintenance works which spoilt the view and made parking difficult. I loved the property but for me the beds were just too soft and I ended up sleeping on the floor as by Wednesday I actually could not move. This is a personal preference not a complaint- which is why i would not book again (we go every year). Kitchen/dining lovely space. Sandy

I truly regret that you found this to be your experience. Please be advised that there are no longer any restrictions to view from the property as this section of essential works by Scottish Water has now been completed. Property Owner

We loved our holiday in Invermay and will definitely look to book again. The property is really well equipped and cared for. Only real negative was the toilet seat. It really needs replaced as it wouldn’t stay in place, which was tricky for adults and children alike. Otherwise, cosy and welcoming. The welcome hamper was a lovely touch.

  • "Fantastic holiday cottage with stunning views of the sea from ever room."

Wonderful welcome hamper that made a huge difference when we arrived on a stormy night. Jennifer was a superb host and checked to make sure we were able to get in and settled and all was well. She has a real eye for interior design - so it was one of those lovely holidays where the cottage is at least as nice (if not nicer!) than our own home. Huge thanks for all the fine touches, they were really appreciated.

  • "We absolutely loved our stay at Invermay Really beautiful accommodation and perfect location."

The only things that let the accommodation down was the bathroom. The toilet wasn’t clean and the toilet seat was very unstable. The door handle to the property was also a bit loose. Otherwise the perfect seaside getaway.

From the windows we could watch Cuddy Ducks (Eider) and hear them softly calling, and see the fishing fleet coming and going. In clear light, you can see the Gannets circling over Bass Rock. The general store is a couple of minutes walk away - the pub and Dory Bistro even nearer. Bliss.

We had never been to Fife and was blown away by the beautiful area, with quiet fishing villages, an easy coast path and close proximity to St Andrews. The apartment was quiet and parking was not an issue. The host gives a really helpful guide to local restaurants, cafes, pubs, etc.

The property

Invermay comprises of the upper 2 floors of a Grade II listed traditional fisherman's cottage which dates back to 1850.

This character property occupies prime position, located right on the seafront of Midshore in the charming historic fishing village of Pittenweem in the Kingdom of Fife, Scotland.

Invermay, loosely interpreted as "by the waters of May" is perfectly named, being right at the shore and also boasting spectactlar views of the Isle of May, from the property.

Offering two double bedrooms, with uninterrupted sea views from every room, Invermay is ideal for two couples or a small family and benefits from beautiful sea views.

Make your way up the small flight of stone steps to the front door and enter into the hall before finding the country-style kitchen/diner; with granite worktops, bespoke painted wood, natural limestone flooring and a fabulous Lacanche cooker, it is sure to inspire some home cooking.

Feel the warmth from the underfloor heating as you head into the sitting room where the pretty backdrop continues with dual aspect windows looking out to the coast; relax in here on the armchairs or sofa while the woodburning stove heats the room, with a TV in here amidst the traditional, homely style.

A steep set of stairs brings you up to two double bedrooms, with one boasting a large sea-facing window and woodburning stove, they both provide charming places to settle in at the end of the day.

Freshen up in the spacious bathroom where you'll find a bath with an overhead shower, a bidet, a double basin and WC.

Step out into the village and take a seafront stroll in the morning to blow away the sleepy cobwebs catching sight of the last of the fishing boats returning from the daily catch, before making a trip to the local village shop for any essentials or stopping in at one of the cafés for a tasty breakfast.

Every year Pittenweem is host to Pittenweem Arts Festival in August which is well worth enjoying if you're visiting at the time, whilst the history of the village can be seen in the local landmark of St Fillan's Cave, a shrine to the saint in the cliff face beneath the priory which you can go and see.

Take a walk along the Fife Coastal Path and come to St Monans Windmill and the village of St Monans itself with its charming 17th and 18th century pantile houses crowded around the harbour, before continuing on to find the remains of Newark Castle.

Head east to Anstruther to enjoy a trip to sea with Anstruther Pleasure Cruises taking you over to May Island National Nature Reserve and Bird Sanctuary where you'll find the largest puffin colony in the UK!

Venture further inland to visit the fortified mansion of Kellie Castle which dates back to the 14th century and sits within extensive grounds, or visit Balacksie Gardens which open each year on specific dates in summer with the help of National Trust for Scotland allowing for visitors to come and see the beautiful landscaped grounds and enchanting woodlands.

Spend a day in Elie and brave the North Sea with some fun watersports with local equipment hire offering everything from paddle-boards to pedal boats, perfect for creating unique holiday memories!

About the location

PITTENWEEM

Anstruther 1 mile; St Andrews 11 miles.

The village of Pittenweem is one of the busiest fishing ports along the East Neuk of Fife and, as such, is a popular attraction for tourists. There is a pub by the delightful harbour, which is surrounded by restored traditional buildings, all adding to its charm. The village name means ‘place of the cave’ and is believed to refer to the cave St Fillan used as a chapel in the 8th century, and where he is reputed to have prepared his sermons by the glow of his arm. The cave is open to the public and sits in Cove Wynd, in the village. The present day Church of Scotland, or The Kirk, sits on the site of the former Pittenweem Priory, an Augustinian Priory dating back to the Middle Ages. Today, the village is popular with tourists and hosts the Pittenweem Arts Festival each August, an event that has grown in size over the years. The East Neuk Festival is another arts festival that also encompasses many of the villages in the area. The village centre sits a few streets back from the shore and boasts a shop, bakers, a Post Office and a café, plus several bars and galleries. From Anstruther, one mile away, take a day trip out into the Firth of Forth and visit the Isle of May, a National Nature Reserve, or visit one of the other attractive coastal villages in this corner of Fife. With St Andrews and Edinburgh easily accessible, there is so much for the visitor to enjoy.
