  • "Fantastic relaxing stay at the bothy with our beagle Wilson."

Lots of lovely walks nearby and the bothy had everything we could need. Hot tub was lovely after a day of walking and the wood burner fire was great for snuggling up after. Wilson loved exploring the secure garden with lots of sniffs. Safe to say he was absolutely shattered at the end of every day. If we plan to visit Scotland again we will definitely look to book the bothy again. Lyndsay

We didn't really explore the surroundings as our dog is elderly, nice enclosed garden for him to explore. Enjoyed our stay so much we have already rebooked for later in the year.

  • "Beautiful bothy , peaceful and relaxing."

We enjoyed the walks and ended the evening weather permitting in hottub. Home from home only thing I would change would be the seating, personal preference would have been a settee but this did not affect our fabulous stay and will return

  • "We had a wonderful week staying at the Ralston Bothy despite the snowy weather, which actually made the local area even more beautiful."

The Bothy itself is a relaxing and comfortable place to base yourself. The large garden with many visiting birds and hot tub is a delight. The log fire was just what we needed at the end of a chilly day. There’s plenty to do in the local area, especially if you are looking for a walking holiday or into nature and wildlife. Quite a few places were closed for the winter but this didn’t spoil it for us, the gorgeous Scottish countryside more than made up for it. I’d definitely recommend staying at the Ralston Bothy if you’re looking for a cosy retreat in this part of the world.

  • "A lovely cosy cottage which is in a great spot, very private."

The owner was there if needed but not intrusive and very friendly. Loved the garden with all the birds and of course the hot tub which after a walk on a winters day was perfect. The little touches make such a difference and shows thoughtfulness for eg: the flowers, bread, milk etc. It was exceptionally clean and tidy. Nice large bathroom with excellent shower and very hot water. Beautiful log burner which on a winters night was perfect. The only negative and it's not too important is, could do to have a slightly larger T.V. Because we were there in February it was nice to watch T.V in the evening. But probably in summer would be out in the garden or walking. It's handy for lots of surrounding walking, places to visit and Dundee. Would definitely come back!

  • "Ralston Bothy is a beautiful little property in a beautiful location."

Clean, welcoming and relaxing. On a purely personal note, seating with upper back support would be good, as I have a chronic neck problem. Other than that the facilities, beautiful garden and woodland walks on the doorstep made for a great stay.

  • "Cottage is lovely and cosy."

Lovely garden with lots of birds visiting. Directions not great, though a sign is pending. Lots of walks available from house or very close by. The tv needs to be improved and a small freezer could easily be added to the kitchen. We would happily recommend and the owner, Laura Jayne, is on hand for any hiccups and is very welcoming and has obviously put a lot of love into decorating the cottage.

The cottage and facilities were above and beyond expectations. We can thoroughly recommend it to anyone seeking a quiet little get away. My only friendly recommendation would be to put a signpost at the end of the gravel driveway. We would book again in a heartbeat. A true joy to stay here.

The cottage was so private, you really felt away from it all. The only thing worth mentioning is that there’s no freezer We did find a cool bag in the cupboard and kept ice in it in the fridge which lasted a couple of days. The only other thing to mention was the hot tub could was wonderful but could use a wee step to get in as my mum struggled to get in, also the cuddle chairs are lovely and comfortable but very low so difficult to get out. Just a couple of things to note if there’s people visiting who are a little less agile. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay though and will definitely be back!

  • "We had a wonderful fortnight stay at Ralston Bothy."

The cottage was clean and practical with a lovely kitchen that had such wonderful natural light! The Bothy, garden and orchard were perfect for our old dog, who could roam securely and sleep under the apple trees as she wanted. We topped up the feeders religiously( such a lovely touch to leave bird feed for us to use) and were rewarded with an abundance of birds and a visiting rabbit. Even a kestrel came and made an appearance in the garden, although the house martins weren't happy about it! The hot tub was a sublime luxury. Perfectly positioned so that it was completely private, we used it daily! Located perfectly for a day trip to Dundee to see 'Discovery' and the V&A museum and also to visit the wonderful Glamis Castle and to do the spectacular Snow Roads Scenic Route through Balmoral etc-a very long drive but the most stunning driving route ever and so worth doing. Laura-Jayne was a very considerate host. She completely respected our privacy, which we valued but was quickly contactable if necessary. The only thing wrong was not being able to stay longer! Thank you for a much needed relaxing and nourishing break, Laura-Jayne.

A welcome hamper with some goodies was a lovely touch. The hot tub was perfect for watching the sunset and stargazing (even on a brisk November night!). The log burner was great to cosy up beside after a day of exploring. The orchard provided plenty apples for making a crumble! Laura-Jayne was attentive and resolved any queries we had throughout our stay, and was very respectful of current guidelines. We look forward to staying again in the future!

About the location

Kirriemuir 12 miles; Dundee 12 miles; Perth 19 miles.

The red sandstone town of Blairgowrie is situated on the bank of the river Ericht, where it emerges from spectacular gorges in Strathmore. With good shops, great restaurants and coffee bars, it makes an excellent town to start exploring Perthshire and the beautiful Angus Glens. Surrounded by rolling fields, famed for their berries, the town is overlooked by hills and mountains, and is the main link to Scotlands largest ski centre at Glenshee. The surrounding countryside is the perfect terrain for horse riding, cycling, mountain biking and hill walking, whilst golfers are well-catered for with several excellent courses (including Rosemount) locally. Gleneagles and championship courses of Carnoustie and St Andrews are also within easy reach. Marvel at the world’s tallest beech hedge at Meikleour (600m long and 30m high), see Meigle’s collection of Pictish sculpted stones, or listen to stirring tales at Glamis Castle, the setting for Macbeth and said to be Scotlands most haunted castle! The small town of Dunkeld is also worth a visit with its historic cathedral, riverside walks, impressive trees, such as the Birnam Oak and parent Larches of Dunkeld, and the Hermitage, which offers breath-taking waterfalls. Abundant wildlife frequent the many surrounding woodlands, from red squirrels, foxes and deer to Swifts, Goldcrests and Buzzards, with breeding Ospreys seen at nearby Loch of the Lowes.
