Am Bothan

We had a great stay in the Cabin.

Everything you need for a comfortable stay. Everything that we needed to know was explained on arrival. It's far enough from civilization to give peace and quiet but not too far from a couple of towns if required. A great base to explore from. Plenty of wildlife to see out the window, anything from deer to bluetits. We would defiantly visit again.

Great location for a quiet relaxing break.

Lovely view - lots of birds and sheep coming and going! Handy location in central Scotland for getting out and about - whether walking around Balquhidder and the nearby lochs and glens, or longer journeys out to places like Perth, Stirling or Oban. Accommodation is clean, comfortable and compact - don't expect lots of storage space in the bedrooms, although the open plan living area is nice and roomy. Kitchen was well equipped and we managed to rustle up a couple of meals with no issues - there's an electric hob, grill, oven and microwave. Worth giving the wood-fired hot tub a go... Get started early though; it takes a while to heat up! The outdoor seating area is great - and it's sheltered so you can even sit outside if it's a bit wet! Hosts were very welcoming and even left a little goodie basket which was nice. Would recommend if you want a nice quiet compact hideaway for a few days!

Listing says - 1 Storage - there was no storage as in no wardrobe, no cupboard, nowhere to unpack and hang clothes.

There were two small drawers either side of king-size bed, oh, and four clothes hangers, two of which had dressing gowns on them. And there was nowhere to hang said hangers. 2 Private parking was a farmyard and private because it was up a dead-end lane. And do not expect to be able to drive your car to the door in order to unpack - we tried to do this and were told in no uncertain terms that we should not go beyond the cone that had been placed. This resulted in an approx 10 yards walk with three steps down plus two steps up into the cabin and the height of the steps up were a possible danger. 3 Open-plan living space was measured at approx 9ft x 20 ft - on a good day! 4 Kitchen WAS compact but did not have "everything to everything you need to rustle up a pleasant meal whether it is a romantic dinner for two or hearty family fayre" unless you call one 20cm frying pan and two saucepans "everything". There were no jugs or bowls to cook with as in microwave, only two large casseroles. Kitchen utensils were minimal. Importantly, there was no Freezer so you couldn't enjoy an ice cream etc, all the things that children (and adults) might wish to enjoy. We had made a 500 mile journey with food that had been carefully packed with frozen food icepacks etc and this had to be disposed of because there was not a freezer. When I asked about it, I was told this is a cabin - I couldn't understand the logic. We are used to caravan living, ours has a dishwasher AND freezer! 5 The kids will be delighted with the cool bunk beds - providing the children are small, no-one over 5ft 6" or 12 stone need apply. 6 The Shower room would not be adequate for 4 people and the main door would not keep shut and maybe the cabin needs levelling? 7 The TV was so high up on the wall - and could not be lowered - that we went to bed with painful necks and shoulders. We didn't watch very much TV but the little that we did watch resulted in the pain. 8 Bed Linen - clean bed linen was not offered in our 10-day stay. Fortunately we had brought our own. 9 For the price, it would have been cheaper to have stayed in a B and B, or Hotel, where we would have had breakfast and clean bedding as part of the price. 10 The only positive about this holiday were the stunning views and general superb Scottish hospitality. Thank you Scotland, shame about our accommodation as we found it.

We had an incredible stay at Am Bothan - the location is breathtaking, the cabin very serene and comfortable.

Perfect to disconnect, relax and have a good base for hikes and walks in the surrounding areas. There are plenty of local amenities nearby (shops and pubs in Callander, MHOR84 for delicious food down the road) and a lot of activities to explore within a short drive away. Would stay here again with no hesitation.

We just returned, we had a lovely week, the view is outstanding.

Hot tubs great , wood fired ones require more tending . Probably more suited for couples as limited storage space . We had a lovely time tho and would highly recommend.

Amazing place with amazing views loved the hottub

We really enjoyed our stay - the place is just as advertised and had a good level of privacy which was important to us.

Plenty wood supplied for the indoor log burner and the hot tub (we had the hot tub running every day). Our only issue was the place was really warm inside and no matter how many heating sources we turned off it would feel too warm in the morning. The local wildlife was lovely to be around too, apart from maybe the wasps but even they were pretty chill :)

Owners friendly and responsive to questions. Slight downside, no storage space and a very high step up to the front door entrance ( would benefit from a an additional step). Clean , comfortable and quiet .

The owner was friendly and dealt with a minor issue straight away. The only very small negative would be a lack of storage for clothing and could do with a net for the hottub to remove flies and debris, but this didn't detract from our enjoyment of the holiday. Would definitely book this place again.

A really lovely cabin with great views.

Lots of wildlife around, we saw red deer, woodpeckers and the bird feeders outside the bedroom are lovely for watching all the visitors in the morning. Wood fired hot tub is brilliant and the wood burning stove in the cabin makes it really cost very quickly. The kitchen is really well equipped and the shower was very good.

Fantastic property and super cozy.

We had a fantastic Christmas stay, great peaceful stay and Alisdair was a great host, left us well alone but was very helpful when needed. The hot tub was wonderful as long as you planned ahead and the stove kept us toasty in the worst of the weather. Yes the cabin is bijou but the most has been made of the space available. Wouldn’t hesitate to visit again, the surrounding area has great walks and the scenery is breathtaking.

Beautiful property in an incredible area of Scotland.

Private, cosy and tranquil with lots to do and see nearby. We would absolutely recommend this property and can't wait to return.

We had a lovely stay at Am Bothan.

The setting is fantastic, and we made good use of the hot tub despite the inclement weather. The property itself is very modern and comfortable, and was spotlessly clean. Alasdair was a very welcoming and friendly host too. The only negative aspect would be a lack of wardrobe space, but this didn't detract from our enjoyment of our stay.

This is a beautiful place, in an amazing setting.

It was clean and had everything you would need for a peaceful holiday, with the option to try lots sporting activities locally. We saw deer and a golden Eagle from the lodge which we were made up with. The only downside was having to heat the hot tub with a log burner, which takes hours and not too toddler friendly. My husband has been struggling with mobility issues and was unable to be up and down the decking, to do so. But aside from this it is such a lovely place to stay with unbelievable views and we thoroughly enjoyed our week. Thank you.

The cabin has all the mod cons you desire and is comfy in all aspects. You might want to double check the post code on the app and what 3 words as this did not match the one given to us by the owner who’s directions on the app were spot one. The setting is beautiful and the view from the hot tube was awesome

We had a most relaxing and peaceful stay.

the owners were very helpful and were there if we needed them. Hot tub is amazing and the views too. the cabin was well thought out, fluffy towels and bed comfy. maybe a second step at the front of the cable would be good and signage to Am Bothan on the main road up to the farm would be helpful, especially in the winter. great stay and would defiantly recommend and would love to return.

We really enjoyed our stay in this little hideaway.

The views are stunning, the hot-tub is a real treat and the peace and quiet is wonderful. The surrounding area is beautiful and there are plenty of places to walk or bike, depending on your preference. There are also lots of places to visit within a reasonable distance. Considering how secluded the property is, it's actually really not that far from a major road, so it feels very accessible. The owners were incredibly helpful and despite the close proximity of their house, we never felt intruded upon. The only slight negatives would be the cramped bedrooms and bathroom. Don't get me wrong, this place has been designed very carefully to make maximum use of the space, but we have quite a few bruises from knocking into furniture. It wasn't enough to dampen our enthusiasm, but if the outside space hadn't been there (the deck is sheltered so you can sit out even when it rains) I think we'd have felt pretty claustrophobic. That being said, we knew it would be compact when we booked as the listing and photos give you a good idea of what to expect.

We stayed for a week in early June ‘23, and after much anticipation we were absolutely delighted with Am Bothan.

Believe the pictures, as this is a truly breathtaking setting for a holiday, with a very stylish, practical and comfortable lodge forming the basis of your relaxation. Once experienced, never forgotten - a genuinely fantastic place that we felt honoured to have our holiday there. Tanya (owner) was very helpful, and very pleasant to chat with. Tanya is a mindful owner who does not interfere with your time there, and has a warmth that reassures you that, if you need some extra help and advice, she will help you instantly. Truly terrific!

Lovely place in an amazing location.

The hosts are lovely and always there if you want a chat. It's a little tight inside (no room for a wardrobe, so we lived out of suitcases for the week), but that didn't take away from the character. We'd happily go back again. Thank you for hosting us x

Fantastic location and house.

We were made very welcome when we arrived and quickly settled in. The views from the house and hot tub are amazing. The house is modern and has been built to a very high standard. Additional bonus is a great restaurant within walking distance (10 minutes walk). We'll be back!

We couldn't of asked for more from the cabin: gorgeous views, excellent location, comfortable accommodation and fab hot tub where we enjoed many sundowns admiring the view! We have stayed in similar properties and they will struggle to beat the privacy and views of the cabin. We will definitely be recommending to friends and family who have already been asking after seeing our pictures and hope to return in the future ourselves.
