Beautiful gardens, lovely cottage, very peaceful place to stay

This was our second visit to Branklyn Garden Cottage and it was excellent.

The cottage itself was lovely, and it was glorious to have the garden all to ourselves after it closed for the day. The kitchen was well provisioned with utensils and crockery, the beds were extremely comfortable, there was masses of water pressure in the shower and the whole place was spotless. We will definitely return.

We have stayed at this cottage three times now.

The cottage is on the small side but clean and comfortable and the garden staff are lovely. I absolutely adore wandering around the garden in the quiet times when it is closed to the public. The cottage is within walking distance of Perth city centre (about 1 mile) for shops and restaurants.

We really enjoyed this cottage and lovely gardens which we walked around each evening after dinner.

The cottage was exactly as described, easy to find, great parking right outside the gate. The volunteer ladies in the shop were lovely as were the ladies in the tea room. Perth just a 20 minute stroll on a scenic route over the river was lovely with an exceptional whisky shop and fantastic museum. We would highly reccomend this snug, comfortable cottage.

Amazing property, fantastic garden, great staff.

head gardener Kate very helpful and a source of knowledge of where to locate plants seen in the garden. A garden of significant historical interest with many plants not seen anywhere else in the UK. This visit was in spring, we will revisit to see the summer and autumn garden.

My husband and I enjoyed a lovely week in Branklyn Cottage.

The accommodation was very clean, comfortable and well equipped. We particularly enjoyed the wonderful views over Perth and our walks around the garden in the evening when everyone had gone home. The staff and volunteers in the garden were friendly and welcoming. The cottage is ideal for 2 people, but it would be a bit of a squeeze for 4, as the living room and kitchen are snug.

Firstly, we would like to thank the Scottish National Trust Staff for all their help, especially going the extra mile in doing our laundry.

The cottage was exceptionally clean. However, if there’s more than two or three people we wouldn’t advise you to book. It’s also not suitable for a larger dog. We didn’t take ours on this occasion as there isn’t any enclosed outside space and it is close to a busy road. You have no where to let your dog off lead at all nearby. Plus the downstairs accommodation is too small to put in a crate if you crate your dog or even a large dog bed. The ground floor is very small and only suitable for two to three adults. There isn’t room to dine properly. I would also say, it was not suitable for small children. Branklyn garden itself is a beautifully maintained city garden with a coffee shop. A credit to the staff who work there and maintain it. We stayed in snowdrop week and it was very busy. The cottage downstairs is passed by visitors as it is by the entrance and next to the coffee shop. The main bedroom is extremely large and the bed is comfortable. We felt because of the size it could have been better utilised as a living area as well with a TV so you could actually be upstairs away from the passing general public, making it more private with views over Perth, which are amazing from that bedroom. The upstairs runs along the top of the building over part of the national trust facilities, hence larger. Perth itself has a brilliant niche art gallery and museum so definitely worth visiting as well as the walk over the river by the railway track and the walk along the river through the riverside gardens. It was a great location for us to visit family in Edinburgh and closer to Perth. This is why we chose the cottage for its central location. We would definitely recommend a trip to St. Andrews for it’s beautiful West beach, an absolute gem. We would like to once again thank all the staff at Branklyn gardens for making us very welcome which made our stay enjoyable.

Branklyn Cottage is in need of a bit of modernisation.

The windows are all single glazed and there is a constant draft coming through the kitchen window (we had to plug it with a piece of card!). The boiler is dated and, during a very cold week in December, we would have been quite chilly without the log burner. There was no dedicated dining area and the lounge furniture had to be moved around to make use of the (ancient and rickety) folding table that was supplied for dining. Although the cottage sleeps four, the living space is really only sufficient for two people as, bizarrely, there is more space upstairs than there is down. The water temperature in the shower was a little erratic but, on the upside, the master bedroom is huge and the bed is very comfortable. Another thing to bear in mind is that the cottage is attached to the Tea Room so it could become rather busy during the better weather, when the gardens are open.

Lovely cottage that I stayed in for 8 nights.

So cosy and lovely location in Perth. My only complaints would be the lack of washing machine and small tv in lounge. A smart TV would be great. Also really would love a washing machine. The shower was very temperamental and went hot and cold constantly. The sofa is not very comfortable, but the lounge is very cosy. Bedroom is gorgeous with a huge bed. Towels could do with upgrading. The check in time is 5pm which is the latest I've ever known, but overall it's a lovely cottage with gorgeous gardens. I would stay there again as it's a beautiful place, just needs a few little upgrades.

Another lovely dog friendly holiday in this cottage, close to family and an excellent place to stay.

The access to the beautiful garden is such a delightful bonus. Really welcomed the new furniture and up grades. to the property.

A lovely cottage in a beautiful garden on the edge of Perth.

By far the most comfortable bed we've slept in at any holiday cottage - and we've stayed at a few. The garden staff are friendly and helpful. Perth centre is a 15 to 20 minute walk or an easy drive with plenty of nearby parking.

Our family were in town and we needed the extra space and Branklyn Garden Cottage was a prefect location in Perth.

They had a great stay and would definitely recommend. The garden was a bonus for them to see.

Lovely location within the garden.

Staff friendly, very pleasant and helpful. Cottage warm and cosy with comfy beds. Kinnoull forest park on the doorstep. Short walk by pedestrian footbridge along the railway line into Perth.

Staying at Branklyn cottage was a wonderful experience.

The washing machine and tumble dryer are shared with staff of the Branklyn garden, who have been amazing and helped us spending a day out by collecting clothes from the washing machine, drying them and putting them back into the house.

I have rated low as we were unable to go.

This was due to a couple of unexpected last minute difficulties (dog ill and swollen/painful knee). We did not have insurance and were unable to move the date at short notice - I accept this. However my gripes are about the appalling customer service - very difficult to contact, virtually no communication . I am also disappointed in National Trust Scotland as I thought I was booking through them (I had terrible service from Sykes previously during Covid and vowed never to use them again) but their bookings are via Sykes - I will NEVER book with either again

Fabulous quiet spot, perfect for us (2adults & 2 small dogs) would be a stretch for 4 adults.

Wonderful cottage in a unique setting.

Having the garden to ourselves in the evening was magic and we had fantastic weather which was a bonus. I particularly liked the decor of the cottage, restrained and very much in keeping with it’s era. Branklyn cottage is also close to so many attractions, no time to get bored! Note for future visitors - the car parking is right outside the gate, which is great, but once you leave you will find it hard to get parked before 5pm. Other cars will have encroached on it and only a Fiat 500 would fit! Please provide a cone!!! On a housekeeping note…5pm is very late to arrive and settle into new surroundings and having to strip the beds before facing a 10 hour journey is maddening. We are not in Covid times any longer, 7 hours to clean a tiny cottage is excessive!

Second time I have stayed at this property.

The cottage has everything you need. The location is within easy walking distance to Perth town. The highlight for me is the garden at Branklyn and it is such a treat to wander round the garden when it's closed to the public. I'll definitely be back again

A beautiful cottage and garden in a lovely area.

We enjoyed our stay very much and would be happy to return. The decor is charming arts and crafts style. The sitting room and kitchen is small, so some might find it cramped, but it felt cosy to us and we had everything we needed, though cold on our first night (hot water bottles would be great for the main bedroom, which has a thin duvet). The main bedroom is huge, with a charming reading nook, the second bedroom is small. The shower and bathroom was fine The heating controls on the boiler are tiny, and hard to read. Some more detail on how to programme would be helpful with instructions. Thanks for a lovely welcome pack and the opportunity to explore the stunning garden. The snowdrops, aconites, hellebores and daphne were stunning. As we left the crocus and snowdrops were finally open as the weather got warmer. Stunning!

Tastefully respectful decor of the period cottage.

...generously equipped kitchen, wifi, bathroom, linens etc. Ground staff respectful of guest privacy ////also friendly and helpful. Wonderful to stay in a National Trust property that maintains period detail and comfort.

A very enjoyable few days at Branklyn Cottage.

Really good to be sited within the lovely gardens of this National Trust property. The house was clean and functional and had most things that we needed. It's best suited to a couple of adults as the living room/kitchen is quite small. That said, we had a good stay, and its proximity to the great town of Perth is excellent.

Great location, 15 minutes walk from the centre of Perth.

The property has been furnished sympathetically to an older era. Good internet, friendly staff on the grounds, very comfortable beds. The property is extremely small downstairs. Fine for a young family, possibly, but there really is no room for the fold out table. It’s not a place for a lie in - the gardeners start about 7am and used motorised equipment. It’s my fault for not checking, but there is no washing machine, which is very unusual for holiday lets.

Lovely place to stay and we much appreciated the garden after closing.

Upstairs main bedroom lovely but you are naughty to describe the bed as super king as it isn’t. It is two singles next to each other which as any loving couple will tell you is not the same thing at all. However they were comfortable. But I would suggest that you correct this description. Downstairs space is small and very difficult to find somewhere to open up the dinning (sic) table. Overall we had a good stay on the cottage and the areas around Perth are gorgeous at this time of year. It cost quite a bit more than the previous week at North Mains cottage and was not as good. A lovely cottage, very well equipped, immaculately clean and tastefully furnished in sympathy with the style and period of the cottage; enhanced by the warm and friendly greetings from the staff and volunteers who look after the reception, the cottage and the spectacular Branklyn Garden in which the cottage is located.

Lovely clean and comfortable cottage, after hours walks in the garden were also well worth it.

Definitely a get away from it all place. Beds were very easy to sleep in with bedding any top hotel would admire. A get away designed more for couples, as kids would easily get stir crazy unless outings always arranged (does have two comfortable single beds though).

We loved staying in the cottage within the wonderful garden The only drawback for us was that as we hadn’t brought the car it was quite a walk to the shops for groceries.

Though the soup,scones and cakes in the cafe were excellent. The garden and cafe staff were all very friendly and helpful

A comfotable holiday cottage situated in a beautiful garden, which was a delight to explore every day of our stay.

The cottage provided us with all that we needed, enabling us to relax and enjoy our holiday. All the National Trust staff on site were both friendly and very helpful. Thank you.

Branklyn Cottage is a lovely National Trust property based in Branklyn Gardens.

The cottage is well maintained and was lovely and clean, with a welcome tray waiting for us on arrival, consisting of scones, jam, tea, coffee, shortbread biscuits and even some hot chocolate; there were even some dog biscuits, bowls and towels for our dog. There is plenty of storage in the bedrooms and plenty of clothes hangers also. The kitchen is quite small but provided everything needed; cutlery, pots, pans, plates, bowls, baking trays etc. There was an under-counter fridge/freezer, dishwasher, oven, hob, microwave and toaster. The gardens are excellently maintained and were in their early stages of blossoming. Every time I went for a walk through the garden I noticed something different! There is also a tea room serving a collection of drinks, cakes and scones; all of which were sampled and enjoyed! Special mention for the cheese scones which were made on the premises every day and were delicious. There is,parking for bikes and one space just at the entrance to the gardens for a small car although the car park for Branklyn Gardens is just a few minutes walk. Now for just a few small negatives; we were mainly ‘self-catering’ for our 2 week stay and had arranged for our shopping to be delivered, (not realising that there is a large Morrisons literally 10 minutes drive away) but when it arrived there wasn’t much space in the kitchen to store dry products. Staff arrive very early on a morning and their storage space/ plant growing area is right outside the cottage main door, so don’t expect to be able to ‘sleep in’ after 8/9am, and there is a small garden border just outside the main downstairs window. This didn’t cause any real problem for us but the dog didn’t like people being so close to the window! The staff were exceptional, very friendly and always stopped for a chat; you could tell that they were all interested and happy with what they were doing but also interested to hear our views etc. There was nothing that was too much trouble for them. I would certainly recommend Branklyn Gardens and Cottage. A lovely place to stay in gorgeous surroundings, with brilliant staff and volunteers.

Staff are all superfriendly and make sure your stay is perfect. Facilities are great, bed super comfy. All you need in the kitchen and log burner is cosy. Hot water and heating plentiful. Would highly recommend

A lovely peaceful cottage.

The log burner was very welcome too! We were greeted warmly and then allowed to “just get on with it” although we knew we could contact Fiona if there were any issues (there weren’t, everything was really good). We enjoyed the gardens and found it ideally placed for us. A short walk into town, but if one has mobility issues an equally easy drive. Parking was fine too.

Our stay at Branklyn Cottage over Easter was magical and one we will never forget.

The property is located in the grounds of a botanical garden steeped in history, with an on-site gift shop and tea-room. The property itself is quaint and traditional with a very cottagey feel; it’s compact downstairs with a spacious master bedroom and cute twin room which was ideal for the children. We didn’t bring our dog on this occasion, but it would be ideal for a couple and their dog. The property is in a great location, within walking distance to the centre of Perth and within a short drive of lots of attractions for the children. The most memorable thing about our stay was the wonderful National Trust for Scotland staff and volunteers who were so kind to the children. They were on site daily, but we didn’t feel this was intrusive in any way – you can engage with them as much or as little as you like. The children were keen to get involved so the lovely staff allowed them to help with their volunteering tasks in the gift shop, café and around the gardens, with little jobs that made their day! Out of hours when the visitors have left the grounds, it was like having access to a secret garden and the children loved exploring the grounds first thing in the morning and playing hide and seek in the evening. Spending time at Branklyn Cottage allowed us to connect as a family and go back to the basic pleasures; it’s ignited a love of gardening and respect for nature in us all. We felt it was a real privilege staying at such a historically significant property and we will definitely make a bee line for more National Trust for Scotland properties on our next adventure in Scotland

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Branklyn - what a very special place to be!

Getting to stay in part of this beautiful Arts and Crafts house was a treat and the beds were extremely comfortable. We were able to sit or wander through the gardens after closing time at 5pm which was so calming. The tea room in the main part of the original house is open 11-4 and worth a visit. The Branklyn staff and volunteers were all really helpful and friendly. Thank you!

This property is more suitable for 2 adults and 2 children in regard to the space in the living area, there is not a dining area, however, the master room is very comfortable, with plenty of wardrobe space, the shelf is not a dressing table as described, some of the trays in the kitchen need replacing, the gardens surrounding the property were beautiful.

The gardeners were very pleasant.

Despite our week being in the coldest weather for 11 years we still had a great time staying in this period property.

Alison & Jim were both super helpful and proactive in doing all they could to address the relative minor issues that the cold weather highlighted despite clearly being very busy with their own arrangements in preparation for the New Year. Very cosy, and a warm welcome - our hosts were always on hand without being intrusive.

The setting was picturesque with the garden in full autumn colours, and the bonus of coffee and home baking available on site!

Branklyn cottage is a little gem and set in the most beautiful National Trust garden.

A very lovely cottage in a fabulous garden with kind and welcoming hosts.

Very comfortable beds. Highlight is the permission to visit the garden after hours and soak up the beauty. The Dundee Rd is busy but not visible or audible from inside the cottage. Very handy for walks from the front door up Kinnoul Hill and over the bridges to Perth. Highly recommended for garden lovers.

The property owners and all the NTS staff and volunteers could not have been more helpful and friendly.

Garden and plant sales were brilliant. Cottage is very clean and comfortable and is ideal for two perhaps three adults but a bit of a squeeze for four. The team at Branklyn are very friendly and helpful. I would certainly recommend this property to all my gardening friends.

Branklyn Cottage is a beautiful cottage in a stunning garden and in a convenient location for getting out and about for day trips.

We had excellent communication with the property managers who were both friendly and welcoming. We would definitely be happy to stay there again.

A lovely, quiet holiday in a cottage with style and everything you could need.

The property is comfortable, well equipped, clean and cosy, There is a log burner in the living room so settling in for the night in front of a glowing fire just tops things off. The couple who stay in the main house and manage the garden are friendly and very welcoming. To top it all, its in a NTS garden and you can wander around anytime and pretend you have won the lottery.

This is a real gem of a National Trust cottage set within the amazing Branklyn Garden in Perth, managed by extremely friendly and helpful hosts.

The cottage was immaculately clean on arrival, had a well equipped kitchen, an extremely comfortable bed in the master bedroom, a very powerful shower, simple to use central heating system and a very pleasant sitting / dining room with large picture window overlooking the beautiful garden. The location is also very convenient, being just a two minute drive from the main arterial routes to Inverness, Dundee and Edinburgh, meaning that travelling around during our holiday was effortless. It was wonderful also being able to chat to the very friendly and knowledgeable Head Gardener Alistair about the history of the garden and his ongoing work. As avid gardeners ourselves, we are hoping to return in the springtime to see another season in the garden and I'm sure this will become one of our regular bi-annual cottage holidays.

The location is brilliant and we chose to be in Branklyn in autumn for the colour - we were not disappointed!

The garden is the prime attraction and Perth and the surrounding area have much to offer. The beds and seating are very comfortable and the shower etc was fine. It was very cosy and the hosts from the National Trust could not have been more helpful, particularly in sorting initial problems with the tv. it is possible to walk into town though dark wet nights made that less attractive during our stay. Shopping would be virtually impossible without a car. We had not appreciated just how small the living area was and how little room there was to sit down to eat. So we ate breakfast standing. For a cottage nominally for four people, it would have been cramped if there had been four of us. Fortunately we had already decided to eat out all the time but had to use the oven one evening and found the oven very slow and barely effective in heating a simple pizza. The wood burning stove was a great asset on some very wet windy evenings, but the starter pack consisted of one log and some matches. Also supplied was one roll of thin toilet paper, which felt meagre considering the price of rental for a week. I would and will return for the garden, but maybe not for the cottage itself.

Gardens and cottage in lovely location.

Easy access to Perth via a riverside walk . Easy parking. Staff very friendly and helpful. Garden cafe was in exceptional spot in the grounds.

It’s in the garden that belongs to National trust.

So you can not just let your dog out to go for a wee on its own. You have to be with it on a lead. Because people are walking around the garden. Apart from that it was a good clean cottage. A credit to the cleaners and owners.

There is an urgent need for a new fridge/freezer.

cottage was ideal for our needs, although small it was comfortable for a weeks holiday 2 adults, 2 teenagers and a dog.

The kitchen had everything we needed, a little snug but was sufficient for the week, digital tv and internet to keep 2 teenagers happy. My wife loves gardening so I will take her word for it that the gardens were beautiful, all the staff and volunteers on site were extremely friendly and happy to chat and share information about the garden and the area. Perth centre is within a 15 minutes walk along the river for shopping bars and restaurants and perth itself is a great central location, within an hours radius you can be in edinburgh, the cairngorms, the trossachs and amazing empty beaches and for golf fanatics, courses abound. Lastly our 4 legged friends will love to go wild in the open spaces, I made the daily morning walk up the wooded paths of kinnouil hill which is literally on the doorstep and provides spectacular views of perth and the river tay and the dog went wild in natures playground. our weather was mixed but it didnt matter in between shopping, walking eating, drinking, swimming, foot golf, crazy golf, water adventures and beaches in dundee, segway at falkirk wheel, zip wires and a crazy dog we all enjoyed our time in perth and our comfortable little cottage, we even enjoyed sitting in the window watching the visitors to the gardens! cakes in coffee shop arent bad either.

The ground floor is compact, but the small dining table is impractical.

It might be better to replace it with a gate-legged table that would be less cramped to eat on. Bed very comfortable. Gardens a delight.

Lovely position in beautiful gardens with wonderful coffee shop on premises.

A 10 to 15 minute walk to town centre. It is best to take 2nd Branklyn Gardens sign as it leads to entrance, we took 1st sign and found cottage difficult to locate.

Lovely cottage, clean with all facilities.

The cottage is well located for access to centre of Perth. The garden is beautiful and after it is closed you have unlimited access to look around at your leisure. Jim and Alison are very friendly as are the other guardians. I would recommend this to everyone. A wonderful experience.

I booked Branklyn Cottage for my parents to stay in when visiting us in Perth this spring.

They loved it! Though compact, the cottage is very comfortable, beautifully furnished, and has a well equipped kitchen. The real draw though has to be the stunning gardens, and having access to them out of hours gave my folks the time and space to really enjoy them. The guardians of the cottage and the gardens were lovely too - so helpful and hospitable.
