Description

Ystwyth Cottage is a pleasant cottage resting in Dolfor, in the hills South of Newtown, Powys, surrounded by beautiful rural scenery and enjoying non-enclosed gardens with an orchard, plenty of off-road parking, and a generous open-plan living space centred around an automated wood pellet boiler. Step inside and you are greeted by a spacious ground floor where the kitchen, dining area, and sitting area flow together, offering plenty of room to spread out, prepare favourite meals, and linger over unhurried evenings. The vaulted ceiling overhead adds a sense of airiness, while the stove in the sitting area becomes the natural heart of the cottage, drawing you to curl up together in front of the flames or simply zone out with a film on the TV. From here, wander through to the sunroom, where wide windows frame the gardens and orchard beyond, creating a lovely prospect in all seasons and a peaceful spot for morning coffee, an afternoon read, or watching the light fade over the fields. At the end of the day, climb to the mezzanine-level king-size bedroom, where feature high ceilings and captivating rural views provide an appealing retreat after days spent exploring. A sleek ground-floor shower room with a walk-in shower and heated towel rail completes the interior, adding convenience to your stay. When you are ready to explore, the surrounding area offers a wealth of days out.As Newtown is well connected, sitting on the main Cambrian railway line with regular services running between Birmingham International and Aberystwyth, making it easy for guests to explore the heart of Mid Wales and beyond.

So whilst exploring, why not head to the market town of Welshpool to discover independent shops, waterside walks along the canal, and visits to the impressive Powis Castle. Venture to Shrewsbury for historic streets, a choice of eateries, and riverside strolls along the Severn. Alternatively, make for Machynlleth, home to the Centre for Alternative Technology and a gateway to walking routes and dramatic Mid Wales scenery. However you spend your time, Ystwyth Cottage near Newtown provides a pleasant base for discovering this rural corner of Powys.

Fantastic accommodation in a Central area for exploring all local attractions.

Property is very comfortable and has everything needed for a relaxing stay. Very clean throughout except utensils were greasy and dirty from previous weeks rental, shame this was overlooked. One other small point is hedges need trimming as encroaching over driveway and blocking access. But overall definitely would use again.

Ystwyth cottage was charming and full of character.

It is next to the owners' Bed and Breakfast, but faces away, so there is no feeling of being overlooked. The sun lounge is comfortable and bright during the day, and the patio an excellent place for sitting in the sun and reading. We were charmed by the mezzanine bedroom. The bed is wide and high quality; the mattress is very firm (which can be a good thing or not, depending on one's back!) If we were to make a suggestion, it would be 'brighter lights for reading/writing/handicrafting'. The lights on the ground floor were either rather too high to read by comfortably, or screened by dark lampshades.

Ystwyth had everything you could need, and more.

Ideal if you are looking for a hideaway from busy places.
