7 High Buckholmside

An excellent place to stay while exploring the Scottish Borders and Edinburgh.

From the outside a drab and unappealing midterraced ex-council house, the hosts have developped this to a perfect home away from home on the inside. Kitchen with all you could ask for, cosy lounge with large TV, perfect bathroom. The upstairs bedroom is in parts a bit low (I'm 6' sharp/182 cm) and had to bend down in most of the room, but for sleeping that doesn't matter. The looks out of the window over the town to the high hills are just glorious, and from the station within walking distance you can reach Edinburgh in just under an hour. And that is the only downside I could find - said railway line runs right under the lounge window, no 10m away. On the other side of the house is a road, and not just any road but the much-travelled A 7 from Carlisle to Edinburgh. So during the day and the early evening the place is not really quiet, but from midnight it gets much better, I never had any disturbance of my sleep. So if you don't mind some noise during the day, this is an absolutely perfect place to spend your holidays in. I will certainly be back.

Internally, nicely appointed, outside rather drab.

The closeness to the road was a problem for us. Heavy lorries rumbling past just 2 meters from the property, in the early hours of the morning waking us up several times. The trains also at night, tend to be fright, more noticeable.

Spotlessly clean, well equipped kitchen.

Rooms all well laid out. Great quality bedding. Just amazingly lovely! Views from kitchen and lounge windows fabulous - even during my short break had snow, mist, autumn glow… Location is an easy walk from town. Town has all you could need Visit Auberge- great food at good prices with friendly staff. Write up does note proximity to rail line - this was not an issue. ( you are higher than trains so do not see them either)

We liked it so well, that having the chance to take another small vacation in June we booked again in the house where we had stayed in April.

Fantastic views in a town centre location with easy access to all amenities.

We had a fantastic week.

The quaility and upkeep of the property was excellent. Very handy for local amenities and the Great Tapestry of Scotland. All were within 5 to 10 minute walk. Central location for local trips to Melrose, Jedburgh, Hawick. Stunning locations for great walks. The little extras of providing milk, tea, coffee, sugar and biscuits on arrival, added a very welcoming touch.

We enjoyed our stay very much and would love to come back again.

Their is enough space and it felt like our own home for a couple of days. You can do whatever you want and shops are close to the cottage. The only downside was that the bed was a bit on the small side for us. Everything was so nice and clean that we enjoyed it very much. Thanks a lot!
