The Toll House

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Toll House.

The flat was spotless, comfortable and well equipped. Its location means that everything you need is within walking distance. There is a small car park nearby which we managed to secure a space in each day but we were probably very lucky. The only negative aspect is the noise from traffic which at peak times could be very loud but there were no issues with being so close to a pub. We love visiting Melrose and will definitely book again.

Very well situated comfortable and spacious

The apartment was found to be clean, tidy and very comfortable.

Its central location made it easy to get around and was convenient for exploring the area. There were however a couple of downsides that are outside the owners control. The traffic noise outside the property was quite loud, especially early in the morning. In addition, noise from the upstairs apartment creaking floor boards from movement around 4:30 a.m and noise from a washing machine started at the same time was noticeable and very disruptive. Overall, the apartment itself was lovely, but light sleepers may want to be aware of the early morning noise

Our initial thoughts were "This is going to be noisy" situated as it is on a main road but it was no problem!

The ground floor flat was clean and tidy with everything that we needed. Heating was easy to use and we particularly liked the walk-in shower - great if you have restricted mobility. The town itself is right on your doorstep so easy access to a range of shops, cafes and pubs. The local area has plenty to do from climbing the Eildon Hills, walking along the Tweed or Teviot to visiting abbeys, country houses or gardens and if the weather is really bad Edinburgh isn't too far away.

The property is very centrally located.

...but this means parking is slightly tricky. Don't be put off by first impressions....inside the flat is lovely and comfortable.

Very conveniently located in the centre of Melrose.

It was a very good choice of apartment in Melrose.

On arrival it was not in the best area at the rear of the Station Hotel, with bins at the outside door. But on opening the apartment we were very pleased to see that it is a real gem. The living room is a very well appointed room and has everything that we required. The bathroom was fine with a very good shower. Only thing to note is that the toilet seat is loose and a quick adjustment is needed. We will certainly return.

The Toll house is perfectly located for exploring melrose and the borders.

It was lovely and clean, with practically everything we needed, the only thing wrong for us was the sofa was so uncomfortable that we had to put cushions on to be able to sit comfortably. But otherwise it was great.

We had a superb week at the Toll House.

The property was very well presented and extremely clean. The location is very central to Melrose so ideal for exploring the town. Melrose itself is great with a number of independent shops,eateries and pubs to suit all tastes. Notably Melrose is very dog friendly which is helpful if a dog owner. Don’t be put off by the parking as we had no problem finding somewhere close-there are a few parking options. Thoroughly recommend this property and we would happily return.

Ideally situated for the town.

Parking can be a bit of a problem on occasions. Property obviously well cared for and well equipped. Comfortable and clean - a real home from home. Loved the decor, the pictures and dried flower arrangements. Thoughtfully set out. Milk and biscuits a lovely touch, too. Much appreciated.

Great accommodation.

Cosy and homely and very clean. Had everything we needed for our stay. Highly recommended.

The Toll House is in an excellent location and the facilities were first class, we will certainly be making further visits.

My only problem, and I accept this was probably my own fault, was that whilst the hot water supply to the sinks was good, l could only get a tepid shower. The reason I only gave comfort a good rating was I found the lounge chairs not very good for my frame,, but I would not say these detracted from our experience.

The Toll House was clean and comfortable, it had everything that we needed for our week there.

We parked in a free car park close to the cottage. There was traffic noise at some times during the day, i.e. schools and finishing work. It didn't spoil our stay there.

The apartment was spotless and very well equipped.

The central location was ideal for local facilities and visiting the border towns. We had a lovely week. People of Melrose and others friendly and helpful. Excellent choice of restaurants and cafes. The apartment however was very noisy due to traffic. Secondary glazing and/or curtains might help to reduce noise. We were unable to hear the TV in the evening and used subtitles. This was the only issue.

I found the booking itself tricky.

I had some questions for the owner and phoned in advance. He was very helpful. The flat is very comfortable, a real home from home with everything you need. It’s in a great location minutes from all the restaurants. It would be helpful to have a safety rail in the shower and a long safety mat.

Very central for Melrose town centre and convenience for visiting the rest of the Borders

melrose is a lovely town and the toll house is quite central to all the amenities.

the toll house is nicely situated to go to other towns and cities of interest, the people of melrose are very friendly especially the staff in the ship inn.

Very comfortable accommodation with everything you would need and spotlessly clean.

So close to all shops, restaurants, cafes and not far to neighbouring towns.

We enjoyed our stay in the toll House ,it was near all the amenities in melrose , we like to go out for our meals when on holiday, the only downside is the funeral place right next to the property commenderes the parking,their are eight parking places in Car park and he occupies five of them three company cars and two employees ,a bit selfish I would say .

Great location, very warm and fantastic walk-in shower.

Probably no room but a tumble dryer would have been nice. Kitchen could do with a better selection of pans as they were all quite small and only one had a lid. A garlic press would be good too. Single glazing meant it was a bit noisy from passing traffic and pub revellers at the weekend but bed comfy and we slept well. Would stay here again.

Very pleasant and superbly situated place for getting around the district or down the high street and local places to visit.

It's a great location. Really clean and comfortable. Lots of little extras we didn't expect. The milk and Tunnocks were a wee lovely added touch, and gratefully received. We will almost certainly be back if we can.

What a fantastic cottage in a great position in this lovely town.

I’ve stated in Melrose many times and know that parking is always on the roadside but that doesn’t detract st all from the convenience of being right by the Town centre. I couldn’t have wished for more and I hope I’ll be back next year.

We found this an excellent property, spotlessly clean and well appointed.

The outside noise is an issue - perhaps double or secondary glazing might help but that wouldn’t put us off returning.

Great place stay in Melrose.

No parking close by.

The property was clean and comfortable inside but the outside hallway and the lane outside were very dirty and shabby.

I was not impressed either by the long list of tasks we were expected to complete before leaving including stripping the bed etc. we paid a substantial sum to stay and the overall experience was disappointing.

House was immaculate, great location to access restaurants, shops and walking routes.

It is a charming property very very close to restaurants and shops.

The apartment was lovely but would benefit from secondary double glazing as the location close to traffic makes it noisy.

Also, the lack of a dedicated parking space means you sometimes have to search for a space elsewhere in the town. We stayed during Festival week which made this task even more daunting and meant a constant look out for spaces becoming available close to the property. The accommodation was clean and comfortable and the town of Melrose had plenty to offer for a week. If the suggested improvement to the windows, and better parking were addressed, we'd have no hesitation in recommending The Toll House.

A thoroughly pleasant and warm place to stay in Melrose during a very chilly April week.

We felt right at home. It really is in the heart of town -- so more urban in feel than country cottage. As a result it's literally steps from a dozen restaurants, pubs and craft shops. We'd stay again!

Traffic noise aside it was wonderful

Although the property was clean and tidy the living room was cold due to lack of double glazing or even secondary glazing and to cut out some of the road noise, apart from that everything was fine, an ideal location(close to the pub)

Exceeded our expectations.

The place is very clean and cosy, well facilitated to our needs.

However, we had to cut our holidays short due to lack of sleep. The flat has single glazed windows all round, and very thin walls and ceilings. Therefore, the sound of traffic from outside during the nights and the creaking floor board and every other noise from upstairs since 5am in the mornings just kept us awake, plus as it's situated next to the pubs and takeaways, the beeping sound from one of those premises starts at 6am. All in all, this is not a relaxing holiday home for us at all unfortunately, so will not return for sure.

Toll House was fantastic.

We enjoyed staying there very much. It is in a very central location and within walking distance to everything we needed. It had the added bonus of being on the ground floor and had a walk-in shower, so it is great for the elderly. It was obvious by the decor and cleanliness, that the Toll House is very much loved and cared for by the owner. I would recommend it highly!

This was our second stay in the Toll House.

There's some traffic noise in the sitting room at busy commuter times, but that's certainly not enough to detract from the flat's other positives. It was scrupulously clean ,well equipped [I particularly appreciated the quality bedding and towels and the large , powerful shower], warm - important in a Scottish October!-and neutral but attractive in decoration.. We managed to get a space every day in the adjacent car park. Great to have excellent cafes, pubs and shops within five minutes or less walking distance. It's a venue we will definitely return to.

It is a lovely bright little flat close to all amenities.

It is spotlessly clean and well equipped .Excellent heating system . The shower room would benefit from an extractor fan especially in the colder months .Otherwise it is a perfect holiday home for a couple .

Can sometimes be a bit noisy at night, as a consequence. Parking a bit tricky at times, especially for loading and unloading. Overall a very satisfactory stay. Excellent choice of restaurants within walking distance.

Melrose it's self was lovely, a real find.

We had a lovely mini break and found the town clean and welcoming. The apartment was exceptional and we would thoroughly recommend it.

I am just home from a weekend at The Toll House.

I was extremely happy with the level of cleanliness (it was spotless) and how well equipped it was. It had everything you would want, even down to usb chargers. I would definitely recommend it to anyone thinking about visiting Melrose.
