The Wainscott

We had a wonderful and restorative stay at The Wainscott.

It is a beautiful property in a tranquil setting. The property itself is charming and obviously well loved. It had everything we needed and the hosts were very attentive. Everywhere was very clean and tidy but also comfortable and set up for those inevitable muddy boots that may accidentally cross the threshold! The kids really loved the tennis court and the rope swing as well as exploring the woods and surrounding countryside. Thank you! It was just what we needed and we will be back soon!

The Wainscott is very private, totally quiet, and perfect for a relaxing holiday.

The access to the tennis court and the fishing lake make it very special and to be able to explore the estate and its woodland area is fun for all ages. The owners are very friendly and attentive. The house itself is attractive, not 'super smart' but that makes for a relaxing stay with young children. They particularly appreciated the large cupboard full of games and jigsaws.

The cottage was beautiful and the hosts were friendly. We really enjoyed our stay. The grounds were stunning. We played a bit of tennis (badly) on the shared tennis court. We saw two families of Goslings. We found the tree house and the swing. And took great pleasure in walking around the grounds. The fresh eggs we purchased from Mrs Mitchell were delicious. You can really taste the difference. Mrs Mitchell also makes a variety of Jams. I have purchased two flavours. Oh and the hosts were amazing as they provided us with a pint of milk and also a plate of Tiffins upon arrival. Mrs Mitchell also baked us a cake we ordered from her. Overall, my experience was fantastic and I will be returning once again I hope. Thank you Mr and Mrs Mitchell for everything

We loved our stay at The Wainscott and it's beautiful idyllic rural setting so close to Shrewsbury.

The baked goodies and fresh eggs we ordered were an additional treat. We'll definitely return next time we're in the area!

Wonderful property!

Stunning location and grounds My only complaint is that we only stayed two nights and didn’t get enough time to properly explore the ponds, walks and find the tree house!!! Will definately return!

A very lovely place to stay.

Very peaceful and quiet. Lots of birds to watch while sitting eating. Lovely garden to sit in and would be great for children. Host very friendly (but unobtrusive!) Hoping to rebook soon.

Wonderful to spend Christmas with our family this year. The cottage was decorated for Christmas and Helen's cakes were delicious as ever. Lovely grounds to walk round. Many thanks for a great week.

Absolutely perfect for a pre-Christmas break!

The Wainscott was a fabulous place to stay When we arrived it was nearly dark, but we had a quick walk around the garden and grounds and were thrilled to discover the many and various super aspects - the large pond, the tennis curt, the swings on the beautiful oak tree, the paths and the fabulous tree house.

The children - 8 and 10 years old - thoroughly enjoyed exploring, fishing and playing and we didn't need or want to go anywhere else over the entire stay. Inside, the property is warm and cosy, and the kitchen was particularly well equipped - a good choice of pans, and details like scales, a potato peeler, measuring jug and so on. The living room area is spacious and comfortable. The owners were very helpful and friendly. We would definitely recommend this property.

We absolutely loved our stay at The Wainscott!

Great location with stunning scenery, lots of open land for the boys to run around and explore. The property is extremely homely and we didn’t want to leave. Brilliant hosts we really can’t fault the place and we can’t wait to go back.

We enjoyed our stay so much in the spring, we came again 6 months later.

Twice in one year! The Wainscot ticked all of our boxes. The fish pond being the icing on the cake. My small children loved the garden, the chickens, the rope swing and the bees. The house was lovely and comfortable with everything you need in the kitchen. You’ll need a car as there isn’t much close by to walk to. But that suited us. There’s plenty to do in the grounds.

What a lovely place this is!

A fantastic cottage, beautiful views, so much to do you don't need to leave. We could relax in the garden or at the fishing pond, while the kids had a great time on the tree swings, well we had a go too! We really enjoyed the tennis court too and exploring the woods and the tree house. If you love a bit of wildlife you'll love it here. Peter and Helen were so friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. The night sky was amazing, which is such a bonus when you live where there is a lot of light pollution. Let's just say we didn't want to go home and can't wait to go back, thank you so much.

The Wainscott made a great base for the week.

We enjoyed having a great place to share, eat and feel at home. We had a chance to fish and that was great fun too. The cottage settee and chairs lack firmness and are a little uncomfortable for sitting each evening, especially now that eating out and being out in the evening is not a every day option. We didn’t let this spoil our week though.

The Wainscott at Great Lyth is a comfortable place to stay with tennis courts, fishing lake and well kept garden.

As a family we loved our stay and hope we get an opportunity to return. The place and the facilities means you can have a relaxing time with great views of the countryside but also within easy reach of Shrewsbury and other Shropshire landmarks.

Very warm and comfortable and a great lay out. Lovely big kitchen will all accessories needed for a great stay. Even a cupboard full of good quality toys for the kids. Thankyou...

I booked both cottages and I will say the same as the place, views, accommodation are superb and the hospitality of owners exceeded out expectations.

This was a perfect getaway for family & friends.

We all had a most wonderful experience in this idyllic setting...definitely more than expected. The owners were very friendly and ensured that we lacked nothing. Most of all the children had so much fun they did not want to leave! Will definitely go back again.

What a wonderful holiday we had.

The property was perfect for a family of 5 and the outdoor space was amazing. Our children loved the tree swings and the treehouse in the woods, so much space for them to run around and explore. We enjoyed playing tennis and even had a barbeque in the garden enjoying the April sunshine! It was a perfect break away.

Tennis court and grounds excellent.

Cottage well equipped and generally comfortable (double bed less so). Nice location and hosts good. Would certainly consider going again. Highly recommended.
