Genuinely cannot recommend Stable Cottage highly enough.

Every single detail has been thought of and catered for to make your stay perfect. Our dogs loved the garden, we loved the hot tub, and combined with a view of the horses and incredible countryside, it was the most blissful and relaxing experience! The hosts Theresa and Pete are incredibly kind and welcoming and just genuinely lovely people. We will definitely be back!

The views were breathtaking, and evenings spent at the window seat watching the horses wander through the fading light were unforgettable. The cottage itself is cosy, beautifully furnished, and offers a deep sense of calm. Even with its tranquil setting, it’s only a short distance from plenty of charming places to explore. Theresa and Pete are warm, attentive hosts who make the stay feel personal and welcoming. We can’t wait to come back.

Your cottage is truly a home from home in tranquil settings. The cottage is amazing with wonderful views and the perfect peaceful get away, just sorry we couldn't stay longer. Our stay at stable cottage was amazing , Theresa and Pete were very welcoming and friendly , the cottage had everything we needed, and the views were outstanding, it was nice waking up in the morning to seeing the horses and foals graze on the fields, the garden was nice and secure for our dogs, where we could enjoy having a bbq and the use of the hot tub if we wanted to it was also quiet and peaceful, fantastic place to recharge our batteries and would definitely recommend and will be booking again in the future

We booked Stable Cottage for a week’s stay and we were expecting it to be spotlessly clean and well-appointed with the option of a pre-lit hot tub prior to our arrival, as per the listing.

It met our expectation in terms of its stunning location – quiet with beautiful views, the shower was lovely as was the comfortable mattress. Unfortunately for us, that was pretty well much where it ended. A few days before our stay, we messaged the owners and asked for the hot tub to be lit, ready for our arrival time. The listing states that the customer can have this option. However, we were told they were “too busy to do this”. Most reviews seem to give a positive impression that the Stable was spotlessly clean so we were drawn to booking this property. However, our experience was very similar to that of Iman in May 2025 in that the cleanliness was substandard. When we arrived we were immediately greeted by a dangerously loose slab on the top step. In fairness, this was rectified the next day. Once inside the property, it initially looked to be clean, tidy and welcoming, with the smell of copious amounts of diffusers dotted around every room. Then we were disgusted to see the toilet brush had been left in the wash basin which was unhygienic and unacceptable. Very quickly after this, looking around the property, it was clear that it hadn’t been cleaned to a satisfactory level for a considerable time. My partner and I ended up cleaning for two hours. There were dust, dirt, stains and cobwebs almost everywhere you looked and sticky floors that clearly hadn’t been cleaned especially in the kitchen. Poorly painted walls throughout. We declined any opportunity to use the hot tub given the concerns we found from the general hygiene and cleanliness of the cottage. Sykes complaints process directed us to speak to the owner to resolve any disputes. We therefore explained some of them and were initially thanked for bringing them to their attention but there appeared to be a lack of accountability and gravity of the situation. We offered for them to view the issues at first hand, but this was not entertained. In fact, there were so many failings of basic cleanliness, it’s not realistic to detail them in this review. We were hoping to be transparent and share the photos in this review which would clearly display the issues we experienced, but sadly it is frowned upon by Skye’s review policy. We are not exceptionally fussy, or highly critical people hunting for issues. Nor are we wanting to actively write a negative review for the owners. However, we do have to be honest about our stay and in all the years we have been in various holiday accommodation, this has been one of the worst, especially when you factor in paying almost £700 for one week – after all, this is not a hostel. It’s a real shame as it has the makings of a lovely break away. We would like to think that having flagged our disappointment to the owners on this review, something may be improved but given almost identical things were highlighted by another customer 12 months ago….

Everything we wanted & needed for a relaxing holiday.

Accommodation was excellent and views from the cottage were lovely. There’s lots of places to visit nearby with two very nice pubs not far away. The hosts were welcoming and accommodating.

Stable Cottage was perfect, everything you needed!

Set in such beautiful surroundings that make you instantly relax. The garden was lovely, great to sit in with a drink and take in the views and watch the beautiful horses. Our dog also loved it, and the attention she would get from the owners!

We had a wonderful stay at the Stables, it was perfect for us and our little doggies.

So peaceful and relaxing. Would recommend and it was especially nice seeing the new fouls and the pet sheep. Thank you

We thoroughly enjoyed being shown around the stables and meeting the horses, Peter and Theresa were perfect hosts, again spent a lovely afternoon tending the wood fired hot tub and reaping the rewards afterwards. 10/10.

I cannot thank Pete and Theresa enough for helping us out when our car broken down. We will be definitely returning to this beautiful location. We stopped here for 3 nights with our 2 dogs, such a lovely place with amazing views of the countryside.

The cottage was very well equipped with all the basic essentials and even had blankets and toys for the dogs. There were lovely little welcoming touches for us and the dogs on arrival. An amazing place to relax and unwind and would definitely book again.

This is the best dog friendly place we have stayed in.

Everything is catered for. Even a welcome pack of goodies for the pooch and their humans. Theresa and Pete are very welcoming hosts, lovely couple. Amazing views of the horses. The location is perfect. Easy access to the surrounding areas for great walks.

It’s such an idyllic location, and the cottage has all the amenities you need. So geared up to staying with a dog too - ours was so relaxed in her surroundings. Hot tub is a great touch too. Pete and Theresa are wonderful hosts, making us feel very welcome. We can’t wait to return!

Our recent stay at Stable Cottage, Penhaligon Stud was unfortunately very underwhelming and the main issue stemmed from a complete lack in communication with the owner.

I tried reaching out a full week before our stay via the Sykes booking platform and two direct calls to the mobile number listed. I received absolutely no response. Even Sykes contacted me later to explain that they had also tried calling and emailing the owner, to no avail. When I eventually asked the owner about this upon arrival, the response was not only dismissive but frankly quite unbelievable. They claimed they hadn’t received any messages or calls despite their mobile number being clearly printed in their own welcome card, confirming I had the correct contact details. I found this lack of accountability frustrating and unprofessional. As for the stay itself, it sadly felt as though we weren’t particularly welcome. The atmosphere was cold and impersonal and there was no real effort made to ensure a warm or hospitable environment. The property was not up to the standard one would expect especially not for the price charged. There were stains on the kitchen cupboards, visible cobwebs in multiple areas and a concerning amount of dust under the radiators, showing that proper cleaning had been neglected. These are basic standards that should be met in any holiday accommodation, especially one listed through a reputable site like Sykes. If in doubt I have photos to prove. All in all, the experience left a sour taste. It felt like once the booking was secured, the owner had little interest in our experience or ensuring things went smoothly. Communication is a fundamental part of hospitality and it was completely absent here. Sadly, I wouldn’t return, nor would I recommend this property to others. It was a real letdown.

Lovely cottage in a gorgeous setting with endless views and horses with foals close by.

Spotlessly clean with everything you need for your stay. Enclosed garden was brilliant for our puppy who could come and go up and down the stairs without us worrying where she was. Hosts were friendly and approachable and made us feel welcome.

Pete and Theresa were very accommodating and welcoming. Such a beautiful place with lovely scenery. Seeing all of their animals was great too (sorry for Kody barking at them occasionally!) Would definitely come back and also recommend this property to family and friends x

Great stay would totally recommend, was fortune enough to be there when a mare had her foal .

I learnt so many interesting things about Warm Blood horses and could see how loved they are . The apartment had everything we needed plus more, with such lovely touches, ie fresh eggs and a bottle of Prosecco on our arrival .The bed was extremely comfy . The apartment overlooked such beautiful settings , which is true to the description of AONB ( area of natural beauty ) . Thank you to Teresa , Pete and Philippa , I know I probably became a nuisance asking so many questions , but found it absolutely fascinating and thank you for including us .

Owners really friendly and helpful and fired up the hot tub up for us while we were out. Lovely quality fixtures and bed linen. Nice touch with mini toiletries and welcome pack including pretty coloured fresh eggs, milk, biscuits, honey, Prosecco and even a doggy welcome pack. Sorry for Peggy pug barking at the horses

Hosts were really friendly and available if needed.

Cottage was amazing, clean and comfy. Bed was comfy. Over bath shower. Home from home facilities. Cleaning products, store cupboard foods, Garden was always in sun. Hot tub looked great but it was rather windy so we never used it. Parking available. Welcome pack. Wine, milk,tea, sugar, coffee, jam, shortbread biscuits,eggs. So much more in house too, salt, pepper tomato and brown sauce, fruit teas. Would highly recommend. 10 out of 10

What a fantastic place! Absolutely beautiful location and accommodation. Theresa and Pete have thought of everything and are such welcoming and friendly hosts. The cottage is fabulous - cosy and warm with everything there that you can think of. We will definitely be back.

Lovely, well equipped cottage with stunning scenery.

Perfect base for walks to Long Mund, Carding Mill Valley, Stiperstones etc. Hosts were on hand for any issues and welcoming. Definetly recommend and will be returning.

Stable cottage is perfect in every way, from the moment we arrived.

The character of the cottage and the scenery were first class. Excellent facilities , clean and comfortable. The Swedish hot tub is lovely after a day's walking the fells . As this is a working farm, amazing to see the horses and sheep in the paddocks and so friendly a great experience! The owners Theresa and Pete made us feel at home, thank you both, we would love to return.

A beautiful setting in the middle of the Shropshire Hills.

Fantastic walks all around the area just a short drive away. The Stable Cottage is well set out, comfortable and has it's own secure garden for you and your dogs. The views are wonderful. Several, beautiful and unspoiled villages are within a short drive and worth visiting. I would recommend Stable Cottage to anyone wanting a quiet time away with plenty to do in the local area.

Fantastic cottage with memorising views.

Owners were very friendly and accommodating. During our start the owner gave us the opportunity to see a foal that was born during our stay. Perfect country stay with lots of scenic walks. Short drive to local shops and local pub.

We spent a wonderful few days at Stable Cottage.

The property was so welcoming and so thoughtfully decorated, and it had everything we could possibly need for our stay. Or hosts were fantastic and always on hand. The landscape was beautiful and peaceful and watching the stars come out from the hot tub was a delight. This is a well thought out accommodation which provides a great base to explore the area, both around the long mynd and further afield.

My husband and I and our two dogs have just enjoyed a wonderful stay here for Christmas.

After a very busy year for us both we really wanted somewhere we could stay and just relax and this property was perfect. The owners provided us with a Christmas tree and decorations which made it feel very festive and cosy. Our two dogs absolutely loved the secure little garden with grass for them to run around and be safe and while we didn’t use the hot tub, the owners were ready to heat it up had we asked and were very accommodating. There is everything in the property provided that you could possibly need and we cooked a wonderful Christmas dinner with all the amenities at hand. Overall a wonderful place, amazing views and near enough to local towns to visit such as Ludlow and Shrewsbury.

We booked our holiday for the purpose of getting away from fireworks with our pooches.

We couldn’t have asked for any more. It was perfect. Quiet and peaceful. The cottage had everything you could possibly need. It was warm and cosy every utensil you could ever need. Coco our cockapoo loved the sheep thing she thought it was one of her own kind We will certainly recommend

We had a lovely 3 night break at stable cottage, peaceful, relaxing, beautiful views, Theresa and Pete were there if we needed them but left us to enjoy our time there.

There wasn't a thing I could think of that the cottage hadn't got, very well thought out and very well equipped and very spacious, there was instant coffee, tassimo machine with pods, filtered coffee just as much choice with the tea. I was very impressed, couldn't rate this place enough.... Thankyou Theresa and Pete

Lovely short break, what a gem of a find.

The view from the Stable was amazing and the hosts were really helpful, especially in helping to light the wood burning hot tub :-)

We had an absolutely amazing time with our 2 dogs and our toddler here, the apartment is gorgeous and had everything we could possibly need, the location is stunning and quiet and the owners were lovely people who went out their way to make sure we were happy there.

Really couldn't rate it enough, we've already recommended it to friends and we'll certainly be back, you won't be disappointed staying here.

Pub just up the road and small town only 3miles away for anything. We used has a half way point from home and Barmouth ( took dog's to beach).

Lovely property, stunning views and great to be able to be so close to the horses.

Bed comfy and other facilities great. Didn't use hot tub. Steps to garden not steep, however they do not lead directly into garden, gate onto garden in at bottom on the stairs so our youngest dog would try to run off ! Once in the garden though it's fully enclosed and great for dogs and children. Kitchen could of been a little cleaner and under sofa cushions too but otherwise was clean and tidy and we had a really nice weekend.

A lovely homely stay.

A beautiful property set in amazing grounds. With fantastic and friendly hosts. The facilities at this property are second to none. The hosts have truly gone that extra mile to make your stay ever more comfortable with the little things you wouldn’t of even realised you needed. A property you can stay in for 2 nights or 2 weeks. Cannot wait to return. Would and will highly recommend and stay at the Stable cottage.

Lovely property, perfect for a get away from it all holiday.

Clean throughout and kitchen is well equipped. I can't think of anything that was missing. Even the dogs are looked after with a blanket and towel provided. Great views across to the long Mynd and lots of wildlife on the doorstep. Hot tub was a bonus! Also lots to do in the area and plenty of places to eat out within a short drive. Friendly hosts made for an easy going holiday.

Lovely owners.

Really friendly and helpful on arrival. We felt the space worked really well and managed a few home cooked meals in a very well equipped kitchen. Not the easiest with dogs given the stairs which due to rain and snow were wet and slippy. Super warm and cosy.

My mum and I + the dog came to stay for 4 days (3nights), we had the most incredible time , the cottage was so clean it looked like no one had ever been in there before us!

The bed was so comfy and we had the best nights sleep ever , we had the most incredible views of the horses from our window which was lovely , especially to see the foul aswell. Every detail was thought about including a spare toothbrush as I’d forgotten mine! The hot tub was incredible and Pete got it going for us and was perfect for when we came back from dinner. We ate mostly at bishops castle hotel which was incredible and i can highly recommend it, we also ate at the three turns (you will need to try their onion rings). We went on lovely walks to the discovery centre and they had many routes to go on, we went to carding hill valley aswell for a lovely 4 mile walk with the dog, very steep hills so defo recommend walking boots. Overall Teresa and Pete were great hosts and we will definitely be returning, such a positive experience and could not fault them at all!

What a gem!

We are a reasonably fit couple with an older dog. It is all upstairs. We were welcomed to 'the stable' By a very friendly Pete and Theresa. They are perfect hosts. The property was very clean and comfortable and in a very pleasant situation within the farm. It is taken as a given that visitors are respectful and have commonsense so does not have the usual overwhelming extensive list of do's and don'ts. It was quiet and restful. We only had a short break and found the surrounding area absolutely stunning and within easy reach. It has given us the much needed boost and break to our busy working days. Many thanks we highly recommend and would happily return.
