  • "We have been renting cottages/barns for many years mainly with our children and now with our children’s families ."

Nine of us stayed at Black Lion Barn and it suited all ages . The grandchildren particularly loved the yoga/ games studio . Table tennis tournaments everyday! Perfect place to go walking locally and not far to go longer walks in the Shropshire hills. The Barn is extremely clean and very comfortable. Beds and bedding a very high standard . Plenty of bathrooms for a large group . We didn’t need to contact the owners about anything as it was just perfect . The best rental for us up to date . This is what a good rental is all about !!

Ah thank you Gill, it was a pleasure to have you at the barn. Glad the table tennis was a hit!!!! Property Owner

  • "Fabulous property."

Spotlessly clean. The bedrooms are stylish and beds extremely comfortable. We loved the open plan sitting/dining/kitchen with plenty of seating for the 8 of us that enabled us to be preparing supper and still be able to chat. Everything you needed in the kitchen and more (even a nutmeg grater!) Made use of the beautiful room downstairs where table tennis and table football played. So much to do in the area with stunning walks and great pubs. Can’t wait to come back, thank you Iona for being so welcoming and helpful.

  • "Perfect holiday retreat for a large 3 generation family comprising of 6 adults and 5 children aged from 19 months to 10 years."

Iona and Dan were fabulous hosts, very friendly and informative. The area is set within a farming community with a couple of local public houses. The children loved seeing the cows in the fields, opposite the barn. Parking is great we had 3 vehicles but there was room for more. One thing to be aware of is that the roads in the immediate vicinity are typical narrow country roads but once you are clear there are main roads with access to Shrewsbury, Ludlow and historic towns such as Ironbridge with its numerous museums, Bliss Hill a 'restored' 1900 village is well worth a visit. As a family, we holiday for a week every year and everyone agreed that this was the best location/property yet and there were a few tears when the time came to leave. We'd love to spend Christmas there but unfortunately they're booked for the next two years, still there is 2025...

Dear Richard and family, Thanks for your lovely feedback, it was an absolute pleasure having you, and we do hope to see you again, maybe with Father Christmas in December 2025?! Kind regards Iona and Dan Property Owner

It is in a beautiful location with views of the countryside. The barn is very comfortable and extremely well presented. The yoga studio is a really great space for games and we enjoyed the table tennis table in there. The living space is large and open which was great for a large group and felt very sociable. The hosts were very helpful and understanding when we set the smoke alarms off coking bacon! They were easily contactable before our stay and again understanding when we had to add a baby to our booking at the last minute. Overall I would highly recommend black lion retreat barn and would definitely consider coming back with families or friends.

The Barn is stunning and every last detail is catered for, and it’s the little details that count. Tea, coffee, logs for the burner, all the kitchen essentials - all you need is food, drink and walking boots. Couldn’t recommend it enough. 12 of us in the party, 3 families with kids from 10-14. Table football, ping pong and room full of bean bags kept them entertained and we all had an amazing time. Thank you

Excellent location for walking in the Shropshire hills A great venue for a reunion Well converted and very comfortable Sleeps 12 - but only one cooker, really needs a second or a larger one if you plan to self-cater Likewise a second fridge in the kitchen would be useful (the one downstairs is not ideal, and both are small)

  • "We enjoyed our 3 night break at the Black Lion Barn."

The barn was very spacious and well furnished with regard to the main accommodation. We did, however, feel that there was a lack furnishing in the yoga area, and would have preferred the larger tv to have been placed in the living room. While the bedrooms were well supplied some of the beds were too close to the walls, with little or no space around the bed. This was especially the case in one of the downstairs bedrooms. Overall, however, we were pleased with our booking and some of our party would look at re-booking for a family birthday.

  • "Wonderful accommodation for a big group of us, I highly recommend this place!"

Everything was beautifully clean, modern and warm. The log burner kicked out some serious heat and the we were provided a good stash of logs to keep us going. The kitchen is really well kitted out and my god the coffee machine makes good coffee!! The showers are instantly hot and really good water pressure (not the horrid dribble you can get in some places), and it didn’t make a difference if multiple people were having showers at the same time. The beds are really comfortable and the sound insulation is really good - you wouldn’t know you’re staying immediately next to a working farm. The owners were lovely on the phone. I think our only gripes were that we couldn’t find any larger bins outside to put recycling etc in.

thanks for your lovely feedback, we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay! the recycling bins are well hidden outside! Property Owner

The barn has been extremely well converted, to a high standard, and well equipped. The view from the floor to ceiling window in the lounge area was stunning. The only small matter I would mention is that if all 11 people had been there, I think it would have been challenging to cook meals for everyone, as the kitchen area is not very big, and the oven and microwave were quite small. There were however, lots of crockery and glasses, and all the equipment was of very good quality. The welcome gifts of Prosecco, hand made fudge and milk were very much appreciated. thank you Iona.
