Briar Orchard Annex

Wow!

We absolutely loved Orchard Annexe, it was even better than the photos with a beautiful, secluded cottage garden to sit in at the front. We were looking for a home from home where we could relax in peace and quiet - this delivered on all fronts. Inside it is beautifully decorated and furnished with antiques and collectables and very comfortable. We stayed during a particularly hot spell of weather and were perfectly cool inside. The owners (who are lovely) offered us fans, but we didn't need them. Parking on the bridge outside wasn't an issue at all, we have a Landrover Discovery Sport and just tucked it in - even the bin lorry was able to pass. Just a little wander down the lane and you can visit Forde Abbey with its beautiful grounds, cafe and gorgeous house. It's a great spot to stay if you're wanting to explore the Jurassic Coast (Lyme Regis, Beer and Seaton are favourites) but have a quiet retreat from the hoards. We also particularly enjoyed antiquing in Ilminster and Crewkerne. We honestly can't praise this property highly enough!

Quaint, quiet, rural and comfortable.

For a restful holiday it would be hard to beat. As an older visitor my only comment is that due to its location I found the very narrow roads and lanes somewhat nerve wracking and I’m glad I only have a small car. Cottage has a wonderful eclectic collection of old world objects. We loved to see the sheep and chickens in the adjacent field.

Didn't use the woodburner as thermostat worked fine when a little cooler. An issue on the last night with front door lock but a safe area, so agreed to leave to be sorted after we had left. On lane parking was a little worrying at first, but no problems. Recommend Forde Abbey for a visit. Also Wells, Lyme Regis and a lovely nature reserve near Chard. Squirrel Inn about 10min drive away serves basic but very nice and value for money food.

My wife and I traveled from Lincolnshire for a week in Dorset.

Briar Orchard seemed good value for money and we were not disappointed. Directions provided to get here were accurate, we found the cottage first time without getting lost.. Located a three minute drive or 20 minute walk from the village of Winsham down narrow lanes it is in a very quiet location. A modern bathroom is provided in what is otherwise a very traditional English cottage, which as the name suggests is an annexe to the owners own home who are next door. Graham and Belinda are a lovely couple, very helpful and very knowledgeable about the surrounding area having lived here for 40 years. You may be put off by the on road parking but the road is wide enough and quiet enough for this to not be a problem. If your health allows, the walk to the pub and shop in Winsham is doable but at night torches and maybe hi-viz might be needed. We had a thoroughly enjoyable week and would recommend the cottage to anyone.

What a gem of a cottage - very comfortable bed (love the bedspread) and furniture - everything you could possibly need and so quiet.

The lane parking was fine and buy some eggs - eggs on toast from the owners chickens are something else. I hope to stay again when visiting family - ps lovely coffee & cake at Forde Abbey cafe

A real country cottage. Comfortable and with modern facilities. So peaceful & quiet. Thank you all including the sheep and hens in the paddock at the rear.

The cottage is lovely and is a home from home and is very clean, cosy and comfortable. Much care, thought and attention to detail clearly evident when you arrive. The front cottage garden is beautiful and the sheep and chickens a bonus in the back field, they made us smile. Great location on a pretty and quiet lane and easy access to many beaches in Devon and Dorset. Plus you can easily walk to Forde Abbey from the cottage and Somerset is lovely. We enjoyed several trips to Lyme Regis during our stay and spent hours fossil hunting! The owners are very friendly, kind and considerate and we received a warm welcome and lovely hospitality from them. Flowers on the table and milk, tea and coffee were appreciated after a long journey. Comprehensive welcome pack and lots of leaflets provided which definitely helped us as we had not visited the area before. Thanks again for such a lovely stay and holiday and we will be back!
