Beautiful view, stunning lodge, fantastic owners.

Castle Farm is a very special place and Heron Lodge is a wonderful place to spend time. The view over the Somerset levels is spectacular and Glastonbury Tor can be seen in the background. It's a haven for wildlife and we loved watching a variety of birds come and go, including woodpeckers, herons, swallows, housemartins and hawks and also saw deer. The animals at the farm are very entertaining especially Alfred the Alpaca. We loved sitting in the hot tub and enjoyed gazing out over the amazing landscape. Heron Lodge is beautiful, well appointed and very comfortable. We explored the local nature reserves, all within easy reach, and the lodge is only a short drive to Glastonbury or the coast. There are two very well stocked village shops nearby - one in Wedmore and one in Mark. The owners are lovely. What more could you want from a short break or holiday. Highly recommended.

This was my second stay in Heron Lodge - visits three and four are already booked too.

As someone who works a 68 hour week I get very little downtime so when I do I like to spend it away from home unwinding. I also have an aging Mum I get to spend very little time with throughout the year so when I go away, I like to take her with me. Spending quality time with her whilst I can is important to me. We’ve visited a lot of self-catering places in the past decade but as her vision has deteriorated to the point she is now registered blind, and her body has begun to cause her major mobility issues, a lot of places are hard for her to move around or appreciate her surroundings. Finding the Heron Lodge - there are three others onsite too which are identical - has been a wonderful thing. They are located in the perfect spot of Somerset. Within 90 minutes you can reach the Jurassic coastline of Dorset to the south, the incredible Dartmoor national park to your west, the Cotswold to the north, as well as Stonehenge and Avebury to the east. You can even make it to Wales in just over an hour. It really is the perfect location. If you don't want to travel far and want to stay closer to the lodge you have the City of Wells and it’s beautiful cathedral; the cultural town of Glastonbury, the outlet shopping mall in Street, Cheddar Gorge and wookie hole caves on your doorstep. Weston Super Mare and Burnham on Sea are a short drive if you like seaside towns. If you’re into amusement arcades there are 2 small ones in Brean - there is a small fair next to one of them which is open weekends during the holiday seasons. There are some lovely countryside walks to be had directly from the lodges themselves If, like us, you don’t want to (can’t) go out and about often, or just want to spend quality time with your loved ones, you need never leave the lodge. The large patio area with table/chairs is great for sitting out and enjoying the fresh air, alpacas, sheep and cows in the connecting fields, the incredible views over the Somerset levels, and the abundant bird life. This patio area is level and easy for those less able to move around. There is also a bbq rack provided for you to use a disposable bbq on should you wish. The hot tub is a definite bonus and due to the sturdy steps to enter is easy for the less abled to enter/exit. My Mum finds it really beneficial for her spinal arthritis. Large towels are provided for the hot tub. Aside from how lovely they (the lodges) are - with views that go on for miles - they are great for the less mobile and visually impaired. With level entry and wide open spaces my Mum is able to navigate around safely and easily. On the occasion she needs to make use of her wheelchair there there is plenty of space in the lodge for her to do so. Having the downstairs bedroom makes it an ideal place for us to stay. It will be equally ideal for a family with children. I do believe one of the lodges (Swan if I am remembering correctly) does have stairs to access. There is a double bed downstairs, as well as another room with bunk beds that would take a smaller adult, and a wet room with a toilet and storage for all your personal needs. The master bedroom upstairs has a large en-suite. All bedrooms have enough wardrobe/cupboard space for your belongings. A clean set of towels is provided in each bathroom, along with hand wash. The kitchen is equipped with everything you could need. The washer/drier and clothes horse is easy to use. There is an iron with ironing board and pegs provided too. You will need your own washing powder/liquid and fabric softener if you wish to use. The coat and shoe rack is right by the doorway so easy to access and there is a boot tray under for your muddy wellies if you need them. All you need to keep the lodge clean whilst you are there - brooms, dustpans, mops and hoovers are available in the cupboard under the stairs. Bin bags, tea towels, washing up liquid and cleaner fluid are provided along with a couple of dishwasher tablets. Jo and Neil appear to have thought about everything to make your stay as comfy and accessible as possible. They are also lovely and although (thankfully) we have never had to call on them during our visits, you know that nothing will be too much trouble for them, and they will go out of their way to do all they can to aid/assist you. If you like aeroplanes and are there on a Sunday take advantage of being able view Neil’s sea harrier and discover its history. You can even sit in the cockpit if you so chose too. The electric charge point - attached to the bin shed - is easy to use via the Monta app. It has two charge points and is a 22kwh charger - although most cables will only allow you to charge at 7kwh so allow for the time needed to charge when you plug in. Currently it’s charged at 60p kWh.

The Lodge was fantastic, views amazing.

All as described. My only gripe was the lack of kitchen implements, knives, slotted spoons etc

This is our 4th time at Heron Lodge, Jo and Neil are fantastic hosts, going above and beyond to get everything just right.

We've already booked again. The sunrise/sunset views are incredible. And the hot tubs a must, even in the rain!

One of the best holiday lets we've stayed in.

Amazing views, all the home comforts, alpacas to greet you and Jo the owner was lovely. The weather was wet but we still visited Wells, Glastonbury Tor, Clarks Shopping Village, the seaside and Bath. Also got to see the harrier jump jet! Would definitely book again for another visit.

Absolutely fantastic stay,!

The views from lodge are stunning, sitting on the large patio or in the hot tub. Bonus was Jeffrey the alpaca, who often wandered up to the patio or grazed by the lodge. There is also Alfred another alpaca in the field next to the lodge with three sheep, as well as Billy the owners dog who is very friendly and will nip into the lodge if you don’t watch out! Hot tub was great after a day of sightseeing, so many wonderful places to visit close by. Jo the owner is really helpful and she kept us updated and provided candles when we had a power cut. By chance, we’d bought a preloaded power bank earlier that day, so we were still able to listen to our portable radio. The Harrier Jet was fantastic to see. Do not hesitate to book this lodge!

What an absolutely fabulous holiday!

Jo popped round to maintain the hot tub; she is so friendly and approachable. The lodge is lovely and comfortable, a real home away from home and one we already miss! It was very well equipped and the attention to detail with the things provided is great, we have often found holiday lets are lacking things like sharp knives, tin openers and scissors, it may sound small but it makes a huge difference when they are provided. It is ideally located for popping out to local attractions but absolutely fantastic for chilling out and staying put. Every detail was covered and we would absolutely stay again. Thank you for such an amazing break.

Absolutely loved staying here. It was well laid out, the sofa was comfortable (we’ve been places before were the sofa was horrible so this was a big plus for us), the location is picturesque and the alpacas were fab! Will definitely be going back

An absolute gem of a property; there was nothing lacking as all amenities were available and the owners were just lovely.

We didn’t need their assistance with anything but I would imagine nothing would be too much trouble if we had done. It’s just a shame your company (Sykes) don’t show the same level of professionalism and customer service.

Brilliant holiday, lots of amenities available.

Loved being on the farm and kids loved the animals. Bin under sink could do with being a bit larger due to 6 of us in the lodge. Mattresses were a tad uncomfortable. Overall we really enjoyed our holiday and would definitely like to come back!

The lodge was beautiful and the views were stunning. The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed to be self sufficient on a weekend away.

Wonderful stay in a beautiful setting, having been greeted by an Alpaca & a Sheep on arrival (Albert & Tulip) the holiday was set from then on.

Plenty to see and do all within 30 minutes drive of the location and everywhere we ate the food was amazing. The lodge was the perfect size for the 6 of us and safe enough for a 2 year old to roam and play. Will be going back for sure.

We were a group of 5 girls celebrating my 40th birthday for the weekend and we had such an amazing time at Heron lodge.

Location and comfort of the place was 5 star, the hot tub was an added bonus and we used it both evenings. We would all definitely recommend to others and hopefully will return ourselves one day too!

The host was incredibly friendly; the rooms were clean; the view was incredible; and there were so many useful items.

We loved the views from the property.

. Our grandchildren enjoyed the alpacas, sheep and visits from the owner’s very friendly dog and cat. The owners were welcoming and helpful. Good location for several attractions such as the Tor in Glastonbury, Wells and Cheddar Gorge.

We had a very enjoyable stay at Heron Lodge, and would certainly think of returning.

The setting is really stunning and the location is perfect for day trips to a wide variety of interesting places. The reason I would give the stay 4 stars rather than 5 is that it is described as being a "luxurious" lodge which sets certain expectations. However, elements - such as the pillows, duvets, mattresses, towels and bed linen (which also hadn't been ironed) - should have been of much better quality to warrant that descriptor. I am sure many guests will however appreciate the hot tub and it is lovely seeing the animals on the other side of the garden fence from the open plan living area.

Modern, well equiped and spacious, an excellent property that exceeded our expectations.

The view across the marshes from the lounge and patio area is superb.

Lovely stay at Heron Lodge - we have been a few times now and it’s always perfect.

Views are amazing, lovely quiet spot but ideally located for exploring Somerset.

We booked this property after being let down 4 days before we were meant to spend Christmas in a different lodge in another part of the country.

At the time I was so let down but if anything I think it was a blessing in disguise as I don’t feel anywhere could have beaten Castle Farm. Such a beautiful setting to spend quality time as a family. The lodge is so spacious that the pictures don’t do it justice. The views are absolutely superb, watching the sunrise and sunset out of the lounge windows is magical. I was a bit worried how we would manage on Christmas Day to do dinner and was so surprised how well stocked the kitchen was with enough pots/pans to do a full dinner. I’m not sure what the previous review is about in regards to parking as the lodge next to us had a few cars and we didn’t hear anything at all. Was so peaceful and tranquil. Our children loved the morning visits from the alpacas and ponies! Hot tub was lovely and clean and we couldn’t have asked for a better place to spend Christmas! One of the best lodges we have stayed in. If you’re thinking of booking then you won’t be disappointed.

The views are outstanding here.

This could be a peaceful tranquil retreat and it was but this was ruined at times by other holiday makers next door. The owners have 4 lodges built closely together, the gardens are not as private as we would hoped as there is an open walk way at the end. There is also a campsite and Shepherds hut which were not being used but in high season could create a noisy busy environment. We were woken a couple of mornings by next door getting in and out of their car parked directly outside our downstairs bedroom windows. I feel the parking should be designated for each lodge and that you park by your own bedroom windows which would give some privacy and quietness. The double room downstairs has a blind at the window but it doesnt fit into the window dimensions and so has gapes each side which you can see day light through. I am glad we were here in October as in summer I would like to sleep with the window open but this wouldnt have been possible for this reason. To add to this, the upstairs bedroom which has an ensuite and so designed as the Master has an awful bed in it with a wonky support underneath and a bolt missing on right side. It has an uncomfortable old creaky mattress which needs immediate attention. We stayed downstairs as didnt think this bed would support two adults. The kitchen could also do with having more utensils, namely a strainer spoon, and enough glasses. If this was at full capacity at 6 people, there isnt enough lounge sitting in the living room. This all said, the lodge is beautiful with just an amazing view- it just needs work on maintenance to keep it to a standard and definetly sorting privacy and parking from other holiday users. We did enjoy our holiday but will not return as we like a peaceful private space to retreat to.

A beautiful place to spend some holiday time.

Stunning views and the kids loved the hot tub and the farm animals. The lodge was very impressive and very clean. My grandson insists he wants to come back to this very lodge. I would strongly recommend this place to anyone.

Property was brilliant, couldn't fault it. It had everything you needed. It was lovely to open the sliding door every morning. Hot tub overlooked the view. ❤️❤️ Our daughter loved the visiting the ponies, alpacas and playing catch with the dog. Friendly owners. Would definitely recommend!

Heron lodge is really lovely.

It was clean and well kept, with all the necessary essentials for a stat that felt like a home from home. Liked the welcome folder with useful info in. We all loved looking out at the trees and seeing all the birds and wildlife, especially the Alpacas My little boy really loved the hot tub, his first ever time in one. The host couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful if he’d tried, Thank you for a lovely stay

Stunning location and views across the Somerset levels, peace and quiet in abundance with such amazing wildlife.

The lodge is very well equipped and maintained, and very clean on arrival. The hot tub is a good size and adds that little bit extra to fully enjoy the location and beautiful surroundings. The owners are very friendly and approachable. The Harrier jet on a Sunday morning also adds something different if aircraft are your thing !. Overall we had a great holiday and hope to return.

Amazing views, clean property with everything needed.

Only (very small) complaint is that the pillows were hard and uncomfortable in the downstairs king bed. However as we were not using the bunk beds we took the pillows off them which were much better.

The lodge itself is stunning, the views are incredible!

It is furnished perfectly leaning plenty of room but more than enough in terms of facilities. Some great local towns to visit and Bristol and Bath are both around a 1 hour drive. The hot tub is a perfect way to relax and soak up the views! We went in January and it provided a lovely cosy environment however it is perfectly set up for a summer break too with the patios and garden. The property is perfectly clean and welcoming with some nice touches provided by the owners! Can’t recommend this property high enough, for a romantic break, trip away with the kids anything! Book it quick you won’t be disappointed!

Beautifully laid out property with all the amenities that we could have possibly wanted, set out in a idyllic location.

This was a great place to stay.

Firstly the views across the Somerset Levels where a great start to our holiday. The lodge was very well set out with all the furniture one would need for a comfortable stay. The Kitchen diner area was very spacious with a large telly. The lodge also came with WiFi which was very useful. There is also an outdoor Hot Tub to enjoy. Most locations where within 45 minutes (Longleat Safari Park, Cheddar Gorge, Clarks outlet village, Glastonbury and the Fleet Air Arm museum (though there is a Sea Harrier the owner bought in a mini museum on the lan). The owners Neil & Jo where very nice people, friendly and hospitable. Enjoyed meeting Tulip the lamb, the Shetland Ponies and not forgetting Billy the dog who greeted us most mornings.

Heron Lodge and it's owners were fantastic, resulting in a wonderful break.

We could not have asked for more! However, the constant very official e-mails and texts from Sykes Holiday Cottages were to say the least abrupt and in the main unnecessary. Yes, you were dealing with a situation caused by a pandemic but a more friendly approach would have made dealings with you more pleasurable.

Marvellous place, photos don't do justice.

You have totally uninterrupted views of the Somerset levels, Glastonbury, the Quantocks, and even part of Exmoor National Park. The owners bent over backwards to resolve issues (the hot tub didn't work day one and they resolved it really quickly) and were super friendly. They also have a farm dog, Billy, who loves you to play with him so if you like dogs there is a bonus. Everything you need for a relaxing break.

This is probably the best place we have ever stayed in the UK out of the hundreds we have been to.

The area is quiet. If you need to unwind in rural seclusion look no further ignore the price and just book you will not be disappointed. The location of this lodge and its facilities are amazing This lodge has a WOW factor as soon as you approach it. There are stunning views of Glastonbury Tor across the Somerset Levels . There is a breathtaking panoramic view from the spacious open plan living area. The hot tub also shares the great views and is secluded and sheltered. There are 2 bathrooms with great showers. There is a massive TV which we never turned on due to the amazing views. The lodge is very light inside due to the large floor to ceiling windows on 2 sides overlooking the Levels. The Lodge is not overlooked with nothing to spoil the views. There are lovely walks direct from your door across the Levels . There is much wildlife, swans, herons swallows and deer. 3 Alpacas, Billie the dog and a black cat visit the garden daily and are all friendly. There is a good WIFI signal but being rural the phone signal is present but a bit weak . There is ample parking. We only went out a couple of days as when you get here you will know why. There is very small campsite as you approach out of view of the Villa as you arrive. The hot tub was large and relaxing and needs to be off and reduced noise outside by 10 pm as not to disturb the one nearby lodge .The upstairs en-suite bedroom has a large bed with a comfortable mattress . The downstairs double bedroom is lovely but the soft mattress made the bed unsuitable for sleeping on so we used upstairs instead. I would suggest the same mattress as upstairs is purchased to rectify this as it would be cooler sleeping downstairs in summer. The sofas and art décor chair look great but are too soft and low for anyone with lower back problems. There is a hard tall chair suitable for reading and sitting though. The kitchen is very well equipped so we used it every day for evening meals. The main oven is slow so leave food in for longer. There are no tea cups or small mugs only numerous large ones. There were beach towels and bathroom towels provided which were on the small side . There is plenty soap washing liquid a dishwasher washing machine meaning you only need to bring your own shampoo and a large towel if you want one. We came as a couple and will definitely be returning in future. We cant wait to see on the nearby owners farm which has a harrier jumpjet which is wheeled out of its shed on a Sunday Overall we had an amazing stay and cant recommend the lodge highly enough. Don't forget a few more bottles of bubbly , just relax and take in the very special views

Lovely place, very calm and relaxing, with a welcoming dog (Billy) and our own security guards, in the disguise of Alpaca's!

The lodge was very welcoming and clean. Due to the high ceilings there were a couple of spiders webs. The kitchen was pretty well equipped. Bedrooms were clean and nicely decorated. It would have been good to have some little shampoos in the showers. A great weekend away.

This lodge was absolutely stunning.

Everything was perfect and the location was amazing. It completely exceeded expectations and we loved our time there. The alpacas, Billy the dog, the cat and chickens and cows were an added bonus. The views were just spectacular. The lodge was very modern with everything you need and the hot tub was sublime. Couldn’t recommend highly enough. A real gem. Will definitely be going back again.

Hot tub was an added bonus. Inside the lodge is cosy and warm with excellent facilities - if you want a break away from it all - but close to several attractions, in luxury accommodation - then book Heron Lodge.

Fantastic stay at Heron Lodge (second stay).

Clean, beautiful views, and the hosts are lovely. We had 2 children with us who absolutely loved walking around the garden area and seeing the animals and the daily visits from Billy the dog were the cherry on top! A lovely relaxing holiday and felt very COVID secure. 5 stars ⭐️

The Lodge was clean & tidy.

It was situated in a lovely location overlooking fields with plenty of room for our grandchildren to play. From our Lodge you could see Glastonbury. The Hot Tub was great , my son spent the evenings in the Hot Tub just relaxing & Star gazing. Beds were comfy to some extent. My wife & i had the upstairs bedroom with en-suite, plenty of room but if you were thinking of taking long dresses it has only small wardrobe hanging space for skirts or shirts, it has no tall wardrobe. En-suite was well fitted, great shower. No bath in the property it has 2 showers. Kitchen was ok equipped but could do with more Utensils. Sofa was very uncomfortable so don't expect to sit in the evenings & be relaxed. My son & his wife took the children to see the Harrier in the shed it was amazing. Wi-fi went down for around 24hrs but was sorted. All in all it was a lovely stay & would go back without hesitation, just could do with some new sofas. Billy. the farm dog. comes to meet you when you arrive & the children loved him. He brings his toys & ball for you to throw.

Very clean, with a fully equipped kitchen. The view and location was excellent. Hot tub was always hot and it was lovely to get a visit off Billy the dog and Thomas the cat, much to our daughters delight. Thoroughly recommend. In fact, I have passed the cottage details to 2 friends already who liked the look of it.

A beautiful location, with stunning views.

6 adult females stayed in this lodge for a rare get together, and we all were happy and comfortable ( even in the bunk beds). The animals are a nice treat to visit, and Billy the dog is such a lovely boy, who just wants to play. The TV is a smart TV so for winter days like ours Netflix is available, as is free WiFi. Plentiful cooking facilities and cutlery including pots, pans and trays, we managed to easily cook a roast dinner for us all. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Heron Lodge. The best thing about this lodge was the views and Billy. Thank you!

We as a family have had the most perfect holiday.

The accommodation is stunning with amazing views. The hot tub was a lovely treat at the end of each full day , with just the best scenery you could wish for. My son and daughter adored Billy and rex and spent many an hour playing fetch with them. Oh and the harrier - my husband left very happy having been able to sit in the cockpit. Finally Jo and Neil are so lovely and wonderful hosts. We hope to return again next year.

The arrival experience was perfect.

Key storage worked well and the views from the doorstep were simply awesome. The whole accommodation was spotlessly clean - a real credit to the owners. All of the facilities worked as intended, Netflix being a real bonus as the weather was terrible. Underfloor heating provided cosy comfort. The hot tub was a perfect end to any day, being slightly covered by the roof - exactly right. Would we come back - yes yes yes. Finally, regular visits from Archie the dog provided exercise in the way of throw and catch.

The lodge was brilliant.

The setting was amazing with some of the best views in the world. Really impressed having been to two other similar log cabins in the past, this is our favourite. Jo and Neil were brilliant hosts, very welcoming and good fun.

Positives were fantastic location, very nice hosts, amazing jump jet which is really worth seeing, lovely alpacas, awesome hot tub, beautiful lodge, fabulous county, comfy bed, lovely decor, Negatives were that the bunks are as advertised, for children, and not for young men in our party although fine for the young women.

Also we did have a lot of ants. No one's fault and on the bright side it made everyone clear up! We rented the property next door too. Fab time and we'd like to hurry back

We had such a relaxing stay and the lodge was everything we had hoped for and more!

Very clean, tidy and spacious. The hot tub was amazing especially looking out over the views of the countryside. The owners checked on us to make sure we had everything we needed on our arrival and were not far away if we needed anything else. Billie the dog is also lovely and enjoyed lots of play time with his stick! We will definitely be recommending to friends and family and hope to come back again soon!

It was immaculate. Nice and warm too. The views were fantastic through the huge windows. The hot tub was brilliant..especially with the views. We would recommend taking your own large towels for use getting out of the hot tub. Neil and Jo were very friendly and helpfu.

Jo and Neil were very welcoming on arrival and though out our stay at Heron Lodge, we found it a very peaceful and relaxing place to stay and look forward to visiting again

It was a lovely log cabin with amazing views across the countryside.

The hot tub was amazing and both Neil and Jo where always there to help .

What a wonderful week we had a Heron Lodge, nothing was too much trouble for the owners.

Jo in particular even found my husbands wedding ring and had it couriered back to me. The lodge itself was amazing, so clean and everything in it was top spec. It’s was so conveniently placed for all amenities nothing was too far to get to. The children loved the animals especially Billy the dog AKA Roxy. Wedmore is a gorgeous village and the King George pub has really lovely food. We shall definitely be going back.

Spotlessly clean with fab country views. Jo and Neil the owners were very friendly and on hand should you need anything. Extra bonus having the hot tub We stayed here with two friends and had a lovely break.

Brand new accommodation , Excellent views across the Somerset levels & Glastonbury Tor , Hot tub a real plus .

Lovely lodge with a high spec for the facilities and cleanliness.

Fully equipped kitchen. Although there was a little desk mirror and a make-up mirror in the en suite top bedroom, there was no 3/4 or full length mirror, which we think was needed. But a minor gripe in an otherwise lovely stay. Highly recommended for the view, friendliness of the owners (and their visiting dogs) and privacy.
