• "To be honest, disappointed."

  The Lodge is a beautiful character property and is furnished accordingly as expected. It has been extended tastefully including a lovely garden room and lovely downstairs shower room. The original lounge room is comfortable and welcoming, however, moving upstairs, things begin to get a little different. The Bathroom is older style in keeping with the rest of the house, but the shower is over the bath which may be awkward for some. Not a real problem given the aforementioned shower room. There are 3 bedrooms, but two of them have the double bed against a wall, so not great for couples. The third has the bed in the middle and effectively the main bedroom. It is dire. If I had just arrived at a hotel, I would have been straight down to reception to demand a room change. Whilst the bed was comfortable and clean, the room in general is tired and tatty. The three curtains are torn with frayed edges. (Given the owners response to a previous review, disputing this, I have photo proof if required). There is no dressing table or tall wardrobe, and restricted hanging space in a rickety old tallboy. There is a skylight above the bed with no blind. To avoid being woken up by daylight at the crack of dawn, I had to cover the glass with cardboard, held in place by blu-tac. There is wifi, but does not reach this corner of the house for either this bedroom or the kitchen below it. (£25 wifi extender would sort this). Unfortunately, mobile data is also very limited, so if you wish to catch up with the news either last thing at night or early in the morning, your out of luck. Whether on holiday or at home, the bedroom should be a welcoming sanctuary. This is not, and well below the standard expected at this price. We thought we were renting a dedicated holiday home but this is not the case. You are renting an owners residence whilst they are working away. Presumably this is why you do not have access to the new bedroom built in the new extension and relegated to the other rooms. When you arrive, you are greeted by notes stuck on various storage areas restricting access. Heating thermostat controls are taped over and you may be fined for interfering with them! The kitchen has an electric range, but this is padlocked with a note telling you not to use it! There is gas hob, microwave and airfryer however. None of this is welcoming. We are retired experienced travellers (Farmhouses, converted barns etc.) and in my opinion this house should be taken off the market until the main bedroom is given a complete makeover. Its a no from us in the meantime

• "This is a great house for people who want some peace and tranquility."

  We had a super time staying at Tuxwell Lodge. It’s a lived in family home full of books and art. The garden and views are delightful. We enjoyed going for walks around the country lanes that surround the house. The downstairs layout of the house means there is plenty of space for children to play. You need a car here because it isn’t walkable to big towns. We took day trips to Minehead, Kilve, Taunton and Watchet all within 25-40 minutes. We would happily stay here again.

• "On arrival the place looked beautiful."

  However, after entering there were dead flies everywhere. The roof light in the garden room had over 100 flies trapped in the cobwebs. The air fryer caught light due to paper liners supplied to use. I must point out the owner arranged a silicone replacement that was delivered next day. The curtains in the main bedroom are falling apart and need replacing. The rear garden is full of rat holes which gave the dog something to chase. The rubbish was due for collection the week we were there. Nothing occured, so the bin is full to the brim. In general the property needs a deep deep clean to include the windows inside and out. Would i stay again?. Sadly, no.

  Thank you for your comments, I am so sorry if during a heatwave in a rural property there were flies in the area. I have indeed replaced the air fryer liner with a silicone liner. One curtain has a minor tear which does not impact on their function but will be addressed moving forward. There are rabbits in the area and it is possible that these were the holes seen as there has never been any evidence of any other animal hole. The bins are on a regular empty schedule by the council and are not near the house itself, I will of course check that the bin emptying information in the property is accurate. The windows are cleaned regularly and apologies for any oversight in the height of a busy summer peak season, we did liaise during your stay about the air fryer, indeed I spoke to you on a couple of occasions and I could have arranged to have the windows checked straight away if I had known of any concern at the time of your stay, but you did telll me that you were having a lovely time when we spoke and that you were indeed enjoying the peace and tranquliity of the property very much. • "We had a fantastic stay in the beautiful Somerset countryside near Spaxton."

  The Airbnb was peaceful, immaculately clean, and surrounded by stunning rural views, making it the perfect place to relax and unwind. We loved waking up to the sounds of nature and enjoying the tranquility of the countryside. The accommodation was comfortable, well-equipped, and thoughtfully presented, with everything we needed for a wonderful stay. The host was incredibly welcoming, friendly, and helpful, ensuring we felt at home from the moment we arrived. The location was ideal for exploring the local area while still offering a quiet retreat away from the hustle and bustle. We couldn’t have asked for a better countryside getaway and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful escape in Somerset. We would happily return in the future. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
