Kick off your shoes as you step over the threshold and into this lovely cottage, heading through to the cosy snug to put your feet up and enjoy a moment of peace with a warming cup of tea after a busy day exploring.

Be charmed by the traditional character of the country-style kitchen, decorated with wooden beams and housing all of the modern amenities necessary to prepare a romantic meal for two, with an intimate dining table taking centre stage in the sociable space, where you can share a bottle of wine as the designated chef cooks up a storm.

After an action-packed day, retire to the sitting room to relax in front of the television, or if you're lucky enough to experience the warmer weather, take your celebrations outdoors with a seat on the patio, surrounded by the colourful and mature shrubbery of the well-maintained garden.

When sleep calls, head back inside and climb the stairs to the first-floor, where you'll find two delightful bedrooms, a singles and a double room, with the benefit of an en-suite walk-in shower, where you can freshen up before snuggling up under the covers.

Get better acquainted with your surroundings and take a stroll into the heart of Wootton Courtenay, where you'll find a well-stocked convenience store, perfect for picking up any last-minute essentials, Take tea in nearby Dunster with it’s charming historic village and castle, or a walk along the secluded Dunster beach.

To add a touch of luxury to your fabulous staycation there are several find dining restaurants in nearby Dunston and Porlock Wier.

A lovely quirky cottage in a really friendly village which is ideally placed for exploring Exmoor by car or on foot.

Be aware (and it does tell you in the information) that it is not for the elderly/infirm, but for young active people it is great. The owners keep in touch to make sure your holiday is trouble free. Thank you we enjoyed ourselves.

Thank you Carol. It is a very old thatched cottage built on a hill and full of character, there are some low ceilings and a steep but short flight of stairs to negotiate to the bedrooms.Many rooms are on different levels with a couple of steps to enter. For all these reasons we agree that it is not suitable for the elderly or infirm and are keen for active fit people to enjoy the cottage, who can appreciate the location and proximity to the moorland and coast of Exmoor. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed yourselves, we love being here.

This was a beautifully peaceful place to be.

The cottage is well appointed with a very efficient and easy to use central heating system. Walked upto Dunkery Beacon and explored Dunster Castle. The village shop sells delicious quiches. Minehead is only 10 minutes away if you need more provisions.

We have stayed in many cottages and will always give a positive review and recommend the cottage, if deserved.

This cottage should be advertised as unsuitable for anyone with the slightest mobility issue. Every room is accessed via steps. The garden is particularly difficult, with several steps from the kitchen and more to reach the garden. The stairs are unsafe, when decending,. There are inadequate rails to enable a safe decent. My friend fell from the steps into the upstairs bathroom, and could have been seriously injured. There was no information regarding when the bins would be collected, WiFi was also not left for us to access. We had to email the owner. Also, there wasn't a visitors book for us to record our issues. We were relieved to leave the cottage, without an injury. I am of working age and walk in the Lake District regularly and I was cautious of the number of levels in this property. I do not write this review with any malice, merely to deter those who might, like us, find this property unsuitable.

Dear Lesley Thank you for your review. We agree with your thoughts about the unsuitability of our cottage for elderly people or people with significant mobility problems. It is a very old cottage and, although modernised, the levels of most of the rooms necessitate a couple of steps up or down, which are visible in the photos posted on the booking website. We have made this more explicit in the booking description. Unfortunately, we were only made aware that your friend was aged 90yrs the evening before your arrival. As you know, we are happy for our guests to contact us, and did offer you to let us know if your friend found the staircase a major problem when you arrived as another solution could have been found either by us or through the Sykes office. We are sorry to hear that your friend fell on the two steps into the bathroom and pleased there was no serious injury. We did notice that the bracket to the safety glass of the shower had been dislodged, and needed to be rectified. It is always helpful for those that follow if guests report any losses or breakages. Although the council collects recycling on a Tuesday, we have a private arrangement so that guests arrive and depart with a ‘clean slate’. It is appreciated if the recycling can be separated as indicated on the label on the recycling boxes. The wi-fi password is on the rear of the router in the kitchen, and we have added this to the house manual 2023, and will consider your suggestion of a visitors book in the cottage. Kind regards
